FRIEDR. BAYER & 00., OF ELBERFELD, GERMANY, A CORPORATION OF @EBMANY.
PROCESS 0E DYEING AND PEtODUCT THEREOF.
No Drawing.
To all whom it ma concern:
Be it known that I, RENE Orr, chemist, citizen of the German Em ire, residing at Elberfeld, Germany, Kingdom of Prussia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Processes of Dyeing and Products Thereof, of which the following is a specification.
I have made the surprising discovery that the diauthra uinonylamin obtainable by the action of 2-0 iloro-anthraqui'none on l-aminoanthraquinone can be used as a valuable vat dye. It yields with alkaline reducing agents a vat which dyes vegetable fiber an orange shade of excellent fastness.
In order to illustrate my new process more fully the following example is given, the parts being by weight: Stir up 20 kilos of the dianthraquinonylamin (10 per cent. paste) with liters of warm water, add to this mixture 40 liters of a hydrosulfite solution 20 B. and 6 liters caustic soda lye 30 B. After a short time the color is completely dissolved. Prepare a dyebath which should contain 1800 to2000 and finally soap. A very fast clear orange shade is thus obtained.
The printing is carried out in an analogous manner. The dye is e. g. printed on the fabric with tin crystals, copperas owder, tartar powder and tragacanth. fter printing, run through soda lye 18 Be. at
85 0., acidulate, rinse and soap at C.
Having now described my invention and in what manner the same is to be performed,
Application filed January 6, 1909.
Specification of Letters Eatent. V Pafiggni'ggd J @113 14 @1919,
Serial No. 470,846.
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. Theprocess of treating vegetable fiber. consistin in reacting on the hereinbefore defined ianthraquinonylamin with suitable reducing agents to form a solution, ap lying the leuco compounds thus produced to the fiber and then oxidizing these leuco compounds, thus producing an orange sha e.
2. The process of treating ve etable fiber consisting in reacting on the ereinbefore defined dianthraquinonylamin with alkaline hydrosulfites to form a solution, a plying the leuco compounds thus produce to the fiber and then oxidizing these leuco compounds, thus producing an. orange shade.
3. The process of treating ve etable fiber consistin "1X1 reacting on the defined tion, applying the leuco compounds thus produce to the fiber and then oxidizing these leuco compounds, thus producing an orange shade.
4. As a new article of manufacture orange colored vegetable fiber impregnated with the dxidation products of the leuco con1- pounds of the hereinbefore defined dianthraquinonylamin which treated fiber upon boiling with hydrochloric acid containing 10% of l-lCl remains practically unchanged in color and upon treatment with sulfuric acid of 90% changes from orange to darkbrown to black and which upon being touched with a watery solution containing 0.&% of anhydrous hydrosulfite of sodium and 0.8% of caustic soda changes its color of orange to redbrown which on exposure to air again assumes its original color.
In testimony whereof- I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
