' 1b dll whom it may concern:
sesgos.'
'EDUARDO -seuiiinarnnrI or LIQUID-soar' nrs-marsan.-
Be it known that I, EDUARDO SQUADRiLLi,
' .a citizen of the Kingdom of italy, residing in New York, in the borough of Brooklyn,
.county ofglKings, and lState of New York,
have invented certain new'and useful'lmprovements-in Liquid-'Soap Dispensers, of
y which t-lie following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved dispenser for' liquid soap by which apredetermined qu'antit of liquid soap is discharged by a Simp e manual operation for use in the' toilet-rooms of hotels, restaurants,
publie buildings etc., so that the use of a cake of 'soap by-.dierent parties and the non-hygienic influence of the same is avoided.
In'the. accom anying drawings, Figure l represents a si e-elevation of my improved liquid soap dispenser, Fig. 2 is apvertical longitudinal section of the same, Fig. 3 is a detail sideview of the hollow sliding piston for producing the discharge of the liquid soap from the` receptacle, and Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse section on line 4,4, Fi-g. 3. Similar letters of reference 4indicate correspending parts throughout the several figures.
'Referring to the drawings, a represents a receptacle for liquid soap, which may be made of glass or other suitable material.
l and of spherical,- oval`= or other shape. The
cap a1 is removed an .receptacle a is provided at its upper end `'with `a removable screw-cap a1 having a central opening a2: When the receptacle a is to be filled' with liuid soap, the screW then replaced after illing the saine;
LI) represents a tubular bracket-arm which is provided with an attaching; pflate b1 hav- '2 or securing l the device to a wall or other suitable sup- -port. The tubular bracket b is provided with two tubular portions (l, di which extend in line with each other at right-angles JEUto the horizontal portion or" the bracket, the
upper tube d. being provided with an interiorly-threaded seat al? for receiving the exteriorly-threaded lower end or neck a of the receptacle a. The tubular bracket b1 is provided at diametrically opposite points with ports or openings 01 and 03, the former affording communication between the interior of said tubular bracket and thensupply pipe d and the latter affording communication 19e- Infthe tubular portion oflthe bracket 1i' is arranged a tubular piston f which is openat the inner end, the stem f1 of which is guided in the opening `of a screw-cap b4,
lwhich is screwed over' the exterioily-'threaded end of the tubular front-portion of the bracket-arm b. An elastic packing ring isinterposed between. the head ofthe piston f and the screw-cap 'b4 so as to'prevent any escape of' liquidsoap along the stem of the piston. The stem f1 is provided at its outer end with a.l push-button f2 which is attached on the end of the stem. ffl, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. Y
Between the' partition b3 (if the bracket- .arm Z) and the head of the tubular piston is integposed a helical s ring f3. which is Naw YORK, u. Y., AssIGNoR oF ONE-FOURTH 'ro ARTHUR, Amana, or New Yoan, ir-. Y.
Specilcation ofI'ietters Patent. Patented Aug- 23 1910 Application iiieiiianuary. 24, 1910.' serial N o. 539,754L
locate'd in the tubular portion of the piston f. l
The tubular piston f is provided aloiig its side with a longitudinal groove f* which is engaged by a fixed screw f5, that passes tion of the bracket b and engages the longitudinal groove f* of the piston so .as to prevent the turning of the piston on its 4through a small opening in the tub'ular por-.
axis during its inward or outward motion.
The tubular piston f is provided at its upper part with aninlet port or. opening v0, which registers in the normal position of the piston with the corresponding opening 01 atl the lower end of the upper tube. rl, so that the liquid' soapcan pass' from the 'receptacle a Athrough vthe upper tube d and the openings 0-1 0 into the interior of the pistn and into the tubular front-portion of the ,bracket I) filling this space entirely with liquid soap. The piston f is further provided at its lower part, but at a distance 'in front of the opening o about equal to the lengthof said opening with a 'second opening 02, which regis? ters with the upper end of the lower tube or discharge-spout'ai1L when the piston is forced inwardly.` During 4the inward? motion. of
; vthe .piston .pressurelis exertedson the-liquid `1c charge-tube are placed in register and a cerin the tubular portion bf the bracket, which 'as long as the opening o of the piston comand the cylindrical front-portion of the tube municates with the opening o1 at the ,lower end of the supply-tube d permits the liquid to be pressed upwardly through these openings, but as soon as the o ening o passes the opening o1 and is out ci) register with the same, the openin o2 in the lower part of the piston and t e opening 03 of the distain quantity of liquid ejected through the spout' d1. On releasing the 4knob of the pistomrod, the spring f3 returns the piston into its form-er normal position so that the liquid can be again .supplied through the openings o, 01 to the interior of the piston The quantity of liquid discharged at, each inward motion of the piston is approximately the same.-
lThe pistonvis preferably operated by the right hand and the liquid soap delivered onto the left hand, ,which is held below the discharge-spout and-then used for cleaning the hands. v
As soon as thepressure on the push-button f2 is relaxed, the helical spring f3 ref turns the piston into normal position, so that the'openings o ando1 are again placed in register. As the liquid soap in the receptacle is under atmospheric pressure, a new supply of liquid soap is supplied to the interior space of the piston so as to replace the quantity of liquidsoap-discharged previously by the inward'motion of the piston. The operation of pushing the iston iii-- wardly and'dischar'ging the predliatermined quantity of liquid soap can then be repeated until the entire quantity of liquid soap' in the receptacle is used up.
The liquid soap dispenser can be used for discharging other liquid materials, such as toilet cream, medicated or perfumed oils and disinfecting or any other substances, so that the dispenser can be used for ladies toilet rooms and in connection with Washbasins in public or private places.
In the use of this liquid soap dispenser a uniform quantity of .liquid soap or other substance is positively discharged by the pressure of the piston on `the liquid, so that scenes absolutely the same quantity is discharged at every-inward pressure of the same, While the same quantity vis replaced by gravity fromthe 'receptacle into the space at the interior of the piston.i This renders the function'of the dispenser uniform and reliable,
lespecially when the liquid thickens after some time and assumes a certain consistency,
the piston'will still force out the quantity required. The apparatus does not leak and the soap or other liquid does not deteriorate as there is but little access of air tothe same.
v This dispenser presents a symmetrical appearance wit its supply and discharge pipes disposed at diametrically opposite points, and its hollow piston, operative in connection with. the so disposed pipes, causes -the soap coutainedin the liquid receptacle supported by the bracket to be forcibly discharged. at a convenient point.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:`
A dispensing apparatus-for liquid soap or similar substances, comprising a tubular bracket provided at one end with attaching means and at the other end with a closing device and interinediately with lateral supply and discharge pipes disposed opposite each other, a'liquid receptacle secured to said supply pipe, a reciprocating tubular piston disposed in said tubular bracket and provided with an inlet port on its upper side adapted to register when the piston is in outward position with said supply pipe, and with an outlet port on' its under Side forwardof said inlet port a distance about equal to the length of said port and adapted to register when the piston is pressed inward with said discharge pipe, a spring for normally holding said hollow piston in outward position, and means for preventing the rotation of said piston.
'In testimony, that I claimthe foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDUARDO SQUADRILLI. .Witnesses:
PAUL GonrnL, Fannie FIsK.
