J. MACDONALD.

ATTORNEYS JAMES MACDONALD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FINGER-SUPPORT FOR MANICURISTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 30, 1910.
Application filed December 3, 1909. Serial No. 531,220.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES MACDONALD, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Finger-Support for Manicurists, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention is an improved implement for manicurists, and has in view a support for the subjects finger, arranged to present the finger nail in a firm and convenient position to be worked on, the implement having a base sufficiently large to insure stability, with ahandhold intermediate the base and finger support, the base preferably being free to slide about so that the hand with the support can be moved to the position desired.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of referenoe indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a finger support constructed in accordance with my invention, the same illustrating the position of the hand in supporting one of the fingers; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view'of the support with the hand removed.
The implement essentially consists of a base 5 and a finger support 6, the base being of such size and form as to insure stability, and tapering toward the finger support, at
the junction of which is provided a handhold 7 about which the'implement is grasped with one or more fingers in presenting another finger of the hand in a position to be worked on, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The finger support 6 curves upwardly and outwardly to one side, preferably overhanging the front portion of the base, with the upper face of the support slightly flattened as indicated at 8, to afiord a substantial bearing for the under side of the finger. This face of the finger support extends in a straight line from the rear edge of the base to the curved portion, and afiords at or near the handhold a bearing for the palm of the hand, the finger when in working position permitting of the wrist comfortably bearing on the table or other support on which the implement is seated. The implement is not fixed to the table or other support but is allowed to freely slide thereon with the hand, so as to bring the finger to any convenient position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In an implement for manicurists, a base, a handhold at the upper portion of the base, and a finger support extending from the handhold.
2. In an implement for manicurists, a base, and a finger support extending from the base, with the upper face of the support curving to one side.
3. In an implement for manicurists, a
base, and a finger support extending upwardly and to one side of the base and of a length to permit the wrist to rest on the surface on which the base is seated when the finger is in operative position. 4:- In an lmplement for manicurists, a base, a finger support extending upwardly from the base and curving to one side, and a handhold formed at the junction of the base and finger support.
5. In an implement for manicurists, a base, and a finger support extending upwardly and outwardly from the base and overhanging the forward portion thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES MACDONALD.
