particular reference to the charging of stor-' age batteries located upon railway cars and used for heating, lightingor for any other purposes. It is custmnary, in car yards, to

. connect the cars as they stand idle with an electric main for the purpose of charging their storage batteries, and in such charging systems, there is usually what is called a yard plug which is electrically connected with the main and which is adapted to be inserted into a terminal socket. upon the cars t'o be charged, for the purpose of making the circuit complete from the main to the batteries.

The objexzt of the present invention is to provide a simple and convenient socket or receptacle which shall be particularly adapted to meet. the cmnlitions of use of such terminals as they exist upon railway cars which arecharged through a yard plug, in the car yard.

The electrodes, which may be one or more in number (two in the present case) are shown at e as heingcnveloped in an insulao ing block f and are provided with sockets at each end so that they may receive the plug terminals y at one end and the tornunals of the storage battery circuit (not shown) at the other end. The latter, it 0 maybe stated, are adapted to enter thocasing through the openings 12.. The block con taming the electrodes is suitably supported in a 1' rame or bracket 5 suspended from the cover plate of thecasing and provided "with 5 openings at the front and back for the reception of the yard plug and battery terminals respectively.

T he yard plug may be of any suitable construction so far as the pre ent invention is concerned, being refer-ably of the form shown and described in an application for Patent tiled November 28, 1908, Serial .\o. 464,887. In the present case 2. plug of this form is shown having, as before stated,
