Lam1 aza arb.97,c14, dated December 7, 1869: patented at 1am. Maw, 1868. y
IMPROVED mam roa momma AND s-rrr-rnn'me LINEN AND o'rnmz FABRICS.
The Schafiule referred to in these Letters Patant and making part of the same.
To all whore it may concern.- v i Be it known that I, J ULES Daooun'omof Paris, in
, the Empire of France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Machinery for Ironing and Stifi'ening Linen and other Fabrics; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will' enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the mcompanying drawings, forming part of-this specifican u a This invention relates to machines for n-onmg, glossing, a'nd stifi'ening fabrics, and consists in a machine by which the article is passed between a roll covered with a blanket or equivalent and a-,concave surface of heated metal.
-Figure 1- represents a transverse sectional view of the covered roll and concave bed with the article passing through. i r v y t Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section of the whole machine. v i
Drepresents a roll, rotated in the directionof the endless apron, of, suitable material. This blanket or apron is marked E.
. A is the concave bed, located immediately over the fire, while between them is another chamber, to prevent the tooimmediate and intense action of the fire on the bed A. N M represent a I nectedwithxtheshatt of'the revolving'roll' or cylinder weighted treadle, which 'is conby means of an ordinary strap.
By means of this treadle, the roll D is elevated, to admit the article to be ironed. q
"The roll or cylinder may be turned? by hand, or driven by any suitable power.
The mode of operation is as follows: The treadle being pressed, the roll is lifted, and the article inserted. ,The roll being then let down, and
. power applied, the friction of the apron or blanket, as
it rotates, willslide the article along over the heated bed, and keep'it, all the while, undera continuous pressure.
13y duplicating the roll. and bed, and making a slight modification in the heating-device, an article may be ironed on both sides by the same mode of operation.
Having now described all that is necessary to a clear understanding of my invention,
What I esteem to be of my invention, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of revolving cylinder D, bianket or apron E, and stationary concave-heated surface A, constructed and arranged as set forth.
2. The combination of the treadle M, balancc-weight N, and conheating-mechanism, with the shaft of the cylinder, to lift said cylinder, in the manner specified.
