The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RALPH S. J nxxrxos, ot the cityof New York, in the county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Perforated Cigar-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description oi the construct-ion and. operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part oi' this specitieation, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

My invention relates to boxes for storing and transporting cigars;.and

It consists in a novel arrangement of devices olesigned to serve as means for lessening the costot' manufacture of such boxes, .and also as nids in drying and curing the contents thereof.

A, of the drawings, represents a paper-board, having perforations c, and which said board constitutes the main portion oi' in v box.

B represents a thin veneer, oi' Spanish cedar, which constitutes the outer side or covering of my box.

D represents a thin paper lining to the box, attac-hed to the inner side of the board A, in the manner shown.

'Ihe function of the perforations c is to allow the moisture of the cigars to pass outward from the box.

:I am aware that paper bodies have been used for cigar-boxes, but inasmuch as the perforations c were omitted therein, they have not proved successful.

v Vithout such nerforations, the moisture ofthe cigars is absorbed by the paper, and mould and decay inevitably follow:

The manufacture of Spanish cedar cigar-boxes has become an importantand extensive industrial pursuit in the United States. But the market price of such `cedar is high, and although'the demand is great, they cannot be made and sold at a low rate, when constructed of solid timber.

To remedy this evil7 I have invented the box herein described, having a body of perforated paper, anda covering of thin Spanish cedar, thereby ai'ibrding to. the. trade a box that shallcombine an exterior of great beauty, with the necessary strength of body, and that at a price greatly reduced below the cost oi' solid cedar, and without the objectionable features of ordinary paper boxes. v

I also consider my device an improvement upon a box of solid timber, inasmuch as I have provided means therein, for the escape of moisture from its contents. I may use a perforated body of cheap timber, instead of' the paper A, when desirable.

hat I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A cigar-box, constructed of perforated paper-board A, and covered with thin cedar veneer B, as and for the purposes specified.
