Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 2'?, 1911.
Application led August 4, 1910. Serial No. 575,416.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J osnrH B. KUSNELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and particularly to one employing figures, the object of the invention being to provide a pair of receptacles of house-like form in which the figures are movably mounted, the said figures preferably representing' policemen and `burglars, means being provided for moving the figures to expose them alternately.
In the drawings, forming -a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several viewsz-Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of my improved toy. Fig'. 2 is a horizontal section therethrough taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail vertical section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a sectional perspective view of one of the trip members.
My improved toy consists preferably of a base member 1 on which is mounted spaced inclosures 2 and 3 of house or building design, the inclosure 2 being provided with a pair of vertically extending and suitably spaced towers 4 which are open at their upper ends, as shown. The inclosure 3 is of a design similar to the inclosure 2 and as illustrated, it is provided with a pair of vertically extending and suitably spaced towers 5. As stated, the inclosures 2 and 3 are spaced from each other and located in the space between such inclosures is an actuating member 6 of drum-form which is formed on its peripheral edge at one side with radial lingers 7 and at 'the opposite side with similar radial fingers 8. The drum is fixed to a drive shaft 9 which is mounted in suitable bearings 10 on the base 1. One of the bearings supports a motor which is conventionally shown at 11. The drive shaft 12 of the motor has secured thereto a driving gear wheel 13 which meshes with a similar gear wheel 14 on the shaft 9 so that on rotation of the shaft 12 a corresponding movement will be imparted to the drum.
The inclosure 2 is provided in each compartment with a platform 15 on which is movably supported a doll or similar figure 16. On the inner wall each tower is formed to provide a longitudinally extending slot 17 for a purpose to be hereinafter described. A trip member 18 is provided for each tower 5 of the inclosure 3. Each trip member is provided with a stem 19 which is movable `in slots 20 in the side walls of the towers lip portions 22 of the trip members nor- Y mally in elevated positions. Spring-pressed movable platforms 24 are located in the towers 5 and movably mounted on each platform is a doll 25.
Two dolls or figures are provided for each inclosure, one being movably mounted in each of the towers and it is desirable that these dolls represent policemen and burglars respectively, it being the object of the invention to employ means for moving these dolls alternately to positions where they will be exposed from the top of the towers of the inclosures. On rotary movement of the drum 6 in the direction of the arrow A in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the fingers 8 will be moved through the slots 17 in the towers of the inclosure 2 to alternately elevate the figures or dolls in such towers. The same movement of the drum will cause the fingers 7 and 8 thereof to engage the trip members 18 to actuate them for the purpose of elevating the platforms 24 and for causing a corresponding movement to be imparted to the dolls in the towers 5.
For the purpose of accommodating movements of the fingers 7 and 8 through the towers 4 of the inclosure 2 the platforms 15 in such towers are formed with slots 26, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
The toy described herein and illustrated is extremely simple and will be found most amuslng.
I claim 1. A toy comprising movably supported elements, figures supported by the elements, a revolubly mounted actuating member, a movably mounted trip element operating on its movement to move one of the said movable elements, and means on the actuating member for engaging one of the said movable elements and for engaging the trip member to move said member and movable elements respectively.
2. A toy comprising movably supported elements, igures supported by the elements, a revolubly mounted actuating member, a movably mounted trip member beneath one of the said movably supported elements, and means on the actuating member for engag ing one of the movable elements and for engaging thesaid trip member to alternately move the said movably supported elements on a continuous movement in one direction of the actuating member.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
