To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY P. FoeERTEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tile- Markers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in tools for blocking out plastered walls of all kinds which are to be tiled, such as bath rooms and the like, the object being to provide a tool which is so constructed that a Wall can be quickly blocked out, thereby overcoming the difli culties now existing in tools of this character.

Another object of my invention is to provide a tool, which is formed of a plurality, of sections so connected together that the same can be folded in order to occupy a very small space when not in use, whereby the same can be readily placed in a tool chest.

Another object of my invention is to provide a tool having marking edges provided with caps against which the marking tool is adapted to travel when the wall is being laid out.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a tool, in which the sections are so connected together that they will be held in a rigid position when the device is in use, in order to prevent any danger of the device collapsing.

With these objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construc tion, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.

In carrying out my invention, I employ a plurality of L shaped sections A, B and C, which are connected together by hinges D, upon opposite sides which enables the sections to be folded back one upon the other so as to occupy a small space when the device is being carried from place to place. ment of the marking tool, which is adapted to travel alongside of the caps when the wall is being marked, and it will be seen that the stops of some of the caps extend in recesses formed in the adjacent sections in such a manner that the full length of the edge is obtained.

The central section is provided with longitudinal slots having reduced faces upon opposite sides in which travel guide blocks G, provided with hinges G to which are connected braces H, which are connected to hinges I carried by the end sections in such a manner that when the sections are folded one upon the other, the blocks will be moved in the guide ways formed by the longitudinal slots, as will be later described.

The blocks G carry arms J having heads J which co-act with grooves and openings formed in the end sections upon opposite sides, in such a manner that when the sections are placed into a set-up position the heads will drop in the openings and hold said sections in a rigid position. The braces and arms are so mounted and con nected, that when the sections are folded the heads and the arms are drawn into open-- iiligs formed in the section at the ends of the s ots.

One end section is cut off obliquely to form a miter, and can be used for various purposes in marking the walls, and setting the tile, and the other end section carries a spirit level. It will be seen that the sections are so hinged together that the device can be readily folded or thrown into position to be used easily and quickly, and locked so as to enable the device to be used in various manners for different purposes.

The operation of the marker is as follows, after the longitudinal lines have been marked on the wall with the ordinary tool now in use, by applying my improved marker to the wall so as to bring the edges of the same flush with the lines, the wall can be quickly marked off into blocks.

That I claim is 1. A marking tool comprising a plurality of sections pivotally connected together, each section being provided with marking edges provided with caps having stops at corresponding marking edges of the adjacent section, and means for holding said sections in a rigid position 3. A marker comprising a plurality of L shaped sections pivotaily connected together, caps arranged over the edges of said sections having stops at their ends, and blocks slidably mounted Within the central section carrying arms provided with heads adapted to co-act with openings in the end sections, said blocks being connected to the end sections by braces.
