ROSE PLANT Filed 001;. 24, 1958 United States Patent ROSE PLANT Eugene S. Boeruer, Newark, N.Y., assignor to Jackson & Perkins Company, Newark, N .Y., a corporation of New York Application October 24, 1958, Serial No. 769,526
1 Claim. (Cl. 47-61) The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the hybrid tea class, which was originated by me by crossing an unnamed and unpatented red-flowered seedling of Peace (Plant Patent No. 591) with an unnamed and unpatented red-flowered hybrid tea seedling.
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new rose variety of the red-flowered type which has plant and foliage characteristics corresponding to those of the variety Peace. To some extent, this objective has been achieved, along with the attainment of other desirable and improved features, and accordingly, the new variety is definitely distinguished from its parents, as well as from all other varieties of which I am aware, as evidenced by the following unique combination of outstanding characteristics:
(1) Large foliage which occurs constantly to the ground;
(2) Large flower size which is unique in flowers of this color;
(3) A characteristic refiexing of the flower petals when the flower opens; and
(4) A very bright and distinctive Rose Red, lightly overcast with Tyrian Rose, general color tonality of the flowers.
Asexual reproduction of my new variety by budding,
"as performed at Newark, New York, and also at Pleasanton, California, shows that the aforementioned characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
The accompanying drawing shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of my new variety in difierent stages of development and as depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of my new variety, with color terminology in accordance with Ridgways Color Standards and Nomenclature:
