Description

Oct. 16, 1962 D. H. MOREY, JR
ROSE PLANT Filed Nov. 29, 1961 Plant Pat. 2,184
United States Patent 2,184 ROSE PLANT Dennison H. Morey, Jr., Pleasanton, Califi, assignor to 7 Jackson & Perkins Company, Newark, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Nov. 29, 1961, Ser. No. 155,876 1 Claim. (Cl. 47-61) The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the hybrid tea class, which was originated by me by crossing the variety Rapture (unpatented) with an nnnamed'and unpatented climbing hybrid tea seedling.
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new hybrid tea rose variety having more vigorous growing habits. This objective was achieved, along with other desirable improvements, as evidenced by the following unique combination of characteristics which are outstanding in the new variety and which distinguish it from its parents, as well as from all other varieties of which I am aware:
(I) A tall and vigorous habit of growth;
(2) Attractive and interesting half-blown buds which are suitable for flower show exhibitions;
(3) Large flowers of hybrid tea type; and
(4) A distinctive, attractive and unusual general color tonality of the open flowers corresponding to Thulite Pink, faintly overcast with Spinel Pink.
Asexual reproduction of my new variety by budding, as performed at Pleasanton, California, and also at Newark, New York, shows that the foregoing characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
The accompanying drawing shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of my new variety in different stages of development and as depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
