Definitions
- the present invention generally relates to a locking sys ⁇ tem for cars, and the invention more particularly re ⁇ lates to such a locking system, which renders difficult or impossible burglary in cars through breaking into or other unlawful opening up of a locked car door without a key.
- the safety lock can be designed with a depressable and upwardly pullable lock button, some type of knob etc. If this lock button is pulled upwards or this lock knob is rotated, the key lock or the locking bar for the door as well as the outer handle will be connected, and in this way the door can be opened up with the exterior lock handle.
- Another means of breaking into a car is to, in one way or another, commonly by smashing a lateral pane in the car, reach the inner handle in the car, which so far has been connected in such a way, that it, when it is actuated, releases the interior locking lock and in this way opens up the lock of the car door, the door being opened up.
- the object of the present invention is to solve this problem and to suggest a locking system for cars, which is designed in such a way that, when a car door has been locked with the key lock from the outside, it is impossible to unlock the car door from the inside, whether with the inner handle or with the interior sa ⁇ fety lock.
- the locking system must be designed in such a way, that it is possible to lock the car door from the inside by means of the safety lock, the outer handle being disconnected in such a way, that it cannot be used to open up the door from without.
- the described problem is solved according to the pre ⁇ sent invention by designing the interior safety locking lock in such a way, that it allows a locking of the lock from within by means of this lock, and by designing the actuation elements for the lock in such a way, that the lock, when it is locked from without, is able to discon ⁇ nect the inner handle as well as the outer handle and the inner safety lock, and in such a way that the lock cannot be opened up by actuating any of these three parts.
- key lock relates to all kinds of lock devices on the car, which can be ac ⁇ tuated from the outside, whether they can be actuated by means of a key or can be actuated by means of diffe ⁇ rent types of coded electronic devices.
- Fig. 1 shows parts of a locking system according to the invention, mounted on a left door (forwardly suspended) and seen from the inside of the car.
- Fig. 2 shows the same parts of a locking system, seen from the outside of the door.
- Fig. 3 shows the various basic actuation parts, which are included in the locking system accor ⁇ ding to the invention and spread out in one plane.
- Fig.4 shows fragmentarily how the device functions, when the car door is opened up by means of the inner handle, pro ⁇ vided the key lock is not locked.
- Fig. 5 shows in a corresponding way the condition of the device, when the door is locked with the key from without the door. Fi ⁇ nally Fig.
- FIG. 6 shows in a corresponding way the situa ⁇ tion, when one starts locking the door from within by means of the interior safety lock.
- Fig. 7 shows an al ⁇ ternative embodiment of the invention, designed for locks of the central lock variety, the lock in this case being shown in an open position.
- Fig. 8 shows the lock in Fig. 7 in a position, when it is locked from within, corresponding to a position which is locked with a key from without the car door and in "step 1" as will be ex ⁇ plained below.
- Fig. 9 shows the lock in Fig. 7, locked with the key from without the car door and in "step 2".
- Locking system 1 shown in Figs. 1-6, is connected to a car lock 2, which is designed in a way known per se and often used and which consequently will not be described in more detail here.
- the locking system according to the invention can be used in all kinds of car locks, and the shown lock is not in any way meant to limit the scope of protection of the inventive idea.
- the car lock is fastened to the opening edge of a car door (not shown) , and it is, in the shown embodiment, designed with a slot 3, in which a locking elemenr (not shown) is provided, which interacts with a body, fastened to the car body, e.g.
- Car lock 2 comprises a pivotable lock arm 4 having an outer arm part 4a, which is best shown in Fig. 2 and which at its end has a connection 4b for a link to a locking bar (not shown) , a locking pin of known design 4b, as well as an inner arm part, which is de ⁇ signed as a locking pin 4c.
- the key lock or the locking bar actuates via its link and connection 4b lock arm 4a, which during a locking and unlocking process respecti ⁇ vely from without by means of the key lock occupies one of two extreme positions, namely one lower position, which is shown in Figs . 1 and 6 , in which the door is unlocked, and an upper position, which is shown in Fig. 5, which is occupied when the door has become locked, either from without by means of the key lock or from within by means of the interior safety lock.
- Locking pin 4c of the lock interacts with a lock arm 5, which is de ⁇ signed as a double-armed lever and in one of its arm parts has an actuation groove 6, which interacts with locking pin 4c, and in its other arm part has a sliding pin 7 designed to interact with the actuation element of the interior safety lock.
- Lock arm 5 is pivotable about an intermediate pin 8 , which is fastened to a side plate 9 of car lock 2 , which is stationarily fastened to the door.
- the locking system according to the invention comprises 4 different inter ⁇ acting main parts, namely one locking plate 10, one in ⁇ ner handle lock 11, one trigger arm 12, and one inner lock connection or inner safety lock 13.
- Locking plate 10 is displaceably mounted in relation to stationary side plate 9, guided in a suitable parallell control element, which in Fig. 1 is shown as a statio- narily mounted spring 14, which presses against a pin 15 on the back of locking plate 10 and guides the move ⁇ ment of plate 10 substantially horizontally.
- Locking plate 10 has a longitudinal, closed slot 16, into which a goose-necked end 17 of an actuation link 18 from the inner handle (not shown) projects. Link end 17 can be dis ⁇ placed between an inner opening position, which normally is locked as regards locking plate 10, clearly shown in Figs.
- Locking plate 10 is also designed with a hole 19, provided close to the inner end, by means of which hole inner handle lock 11 can be pivotally connected to the locking plate, since lock 11 has a corresponding hole 20 and since pin 21 extends through the two holes.
- the loc ⁇ king plate also has a hole 22 close to its upper edge, de ⁇ signed to connect it to one of the ends of a spring 23, which with its other end is connected to a corresponding hole 24 in inner handle lock 11.
- Spring holes 22 and 24 are placed, in such positions in relation to pivotal pin 21, that lock 11 will be bistable and can occupy a stable locked position, which is shown in Fig. 4, and a stable opened position, which is shown in Fig. 5.
- Inner handle lock 11 forms a hook 25, which, when a pi ⁇ voting takes place to its locked position (Fig. 4) about pin 21, grasps end 17 on link 18 and which, when a pivo ⁇ ting takes place to its opened position (Fig. 5) , stops an actuation of locking plate 10 by means of the inner handle via its link 17,18.
- Lock 11 is on the side, which as to pivoting point 20 is opposite to hook 25, designed with a hook groove 26 in order to obtain an interaction with a projecting head 27 on trigger arm 12.
- Trigger arm 12 is, as is clearly shown in Figs. 5 and 6, mounted on the outside of lock arm 5, and it abuts the surface on the same, influenced by a set screw 28 and a compression spring 29, and in this way trigger arm 12 can, when actuated, be lifted outwards from lock arm 5, head 27 being lifted from its engagement with hook groove 26 of lock 11.
- a lifting trigger arm 12 is designed with a lifting list 30, designed to interact with a lifting arm 31, which is stationarily mounted on inner safety lock 13.
- the interior safety lock 13 is in the illustrated embo ⁇ diment designed as a knob, designed to project, in a way known per se, above the lower window frame part on the car door, and, when being pressed downwards, to bring about a locking from within of the car lock to avoid an opening up of the car door from without by means of the outer handle.
- This "knob” is for this reason in its lower end designed with an actuation fork 32 having a closed upper edge and an open lower end, designed to interact with sli ⁇ ding pin 7 (Fig.
- actuation fork 32 is open in its lower end ana all the lock knob 13 suitably is spring-biased up ⁇ wards by means of a spring (not shown) , in order to allow knob 13, when the car has been locked, to immediately return to its upper position in order to obtain a re ⁇ newed locking on next approriate occasion.
- the above- mentioned lifting arm 31 is stationarily mounted on sa ⁇ fety lock 13.
- Lifting arm 31 is angular and its active part is turned downwards, and it has a wedge-shaped or in a similar way shaped lower point, designed to inter ⁇ fere with lifting list 30 of lock 11, below it or behind it, in order to let this lifting list, when "inner lock knob” 13 is depressed, lift the trigger arm and particu ⁇ larly its head 27 from the interference with the hook groove of lock 11.
- lock arm 5 can be de ⁇ pressed jointly with trigger arm 12 without involving inner handle lock 11, and in this way the car can be locked from within without pivoting away lock 11 from its locking position, in which actuation link 18 from the inner handle actively interferes with locking plate 10, and in which condition the door can be opened up from within by means of the inner handle.
- On the contra ⁇ ry the door can be opened up from without, since locking pin 4c of door lock 2 is pushed upwards and since the door in this way is locked and the outer handle is dis ⁇ connected.
- Case I A locking of the lock from without: A locking from without can, as well as an unlocking from without, only bw done by means of a key in the loc ⁇ king bar, which via a link (not shown) , connected to con ⁇ nection 4b, a ⁇ ates lock arm 4a.
- the locking arm 4a is pulled downwards, locking pin 4c being pushed upwards and locking car lock 2 at the same time as the outer handle is disconnected, lock arm 5 being pivoted in a clockwise direction in the way shown in Fig. 1.
- Inner safety lock 13 occupies as usual its raised position. This means that:
- the door can only be opened up from without and then only with a key.
- Case II An opening up of the lock from without: An opening is done by means of a key in the lock cylin ⁇ der, outer lock arm part 4a being pivoted upwards and locking pin 4c being pivoted downwards and opening up door lock 2 as well as connecting the outer doorhandle.
- lock arm 5 is pivoted in counter clock ⁇ wise direction jointly with trigger arm 12, head 27 of which bringing about return-pivoting in clockwise di ⁇ rection of inner handle lock 11, which now with its hook grasp end 17 on handle link 18. In this position:
- the door can be opened up from without by means of the outer handle;
- the door can be locked from without by means of the key
- the door can be opened up from within by means of the inner handle;
- the door can be locked from within bv means of inner safety lock 13 .
- inner sa ⁇ fety lock 13 is actuated in the locking direction, e.g. is depressed, actuation fork 32 with its bottom being pressed against gliding pin 7 and depressing lock arm 5; the other end of lock arm 5 forces locking pin 4c up ⁇ wards, car lock 2 being locked and the outer handle of the car door being released; at the same time as actuation fork 32 is depressed lifting arm 31, which is fastened to safety lock 13, projects into a position behind lif ⁇ ting list 30 of trigger arm 12 and lifts trigger arm 12 with head 27 upwards from its interference with hook groove 26 of lock 11, and in this way lock arm 5 joint ⁇ ly with trigger arm 12 can be displaced downwards past inner handle lock 11, consequently without a pivoting of lock 11, and hook 25 of lock 11 will still grasp end 17 on actuation link 18 of the inner handle.
- actuation fork 32 is depressed lifting arm 31, which is fastened to safety lock 13, projects into a position behind lif ⁇ ting list 30 of trigger arm 12 and
- the door can be opened up from within by means of the inner handle.
- Case IV An opening up from within:
- the door can be opened up from without by means of the outer handle;
- the door can be locked from without by means of a key
- the door can be opened up from within by means of the inner handle;
- the door can be locked from within by means of the in ⁇ ner lock fork.
- the car lock which is shown in Figs. 7, 8 and 9 is ad ⁇ justed to a lock of a type known per se, a so called central lock, which is designed to, when a locking is done from without with a key, disconnect the outer handle as well as the inner handle and the safety lock, tomake it impossible to break into the car by actuating the in ⁇ ner handle or the safety lock.
- the lock which principally is of the same type as the lock according to Figs. 1-6, is shown from that side, which is turned away from car door 2 per se.
- the most interesting feature of the invention is the system de ⁇ signed to disconnect the interior safety lock, and the lock will mainly be described regarding this detail. Some details, known as far as the function of the lock goes, have been excluded for the sake of clarity.
- the lock comprises an outer handle arm 33, which is pi ⁇ votable about a pin 34 and which in a known way is con ⁇ nected to an outer handle of the car door (not shown) , particularly the door besides the driver's seat, an in ⁇ ner handle arm 35, which also is pivotable about a pin 66 and in a known way is connected to the inner handle.
- the lock also comprises a main lock arm 37, which with an actuation groove (not shown) interacts with an outer lock arm 38.
- Main lock arm 37 is via a projecting arm part 39 connected to a central lock motor 40.
- Outer lock arm 38 is by means of a link 41 connected to a key lock arm 42, which is pivotable on a pin 43.
- the key lock arm is provided with a locking bar groove 43, in which the active part of the locking bar is mounted to interfere to actuate a pivoting of key lock arm 42, when the door is opened up with a key from without.
- Locking bar groove 43 has an angular shape, but only the upper part of the groove is free in the open position of the lock, whereas the lower angular part of groove 43 is covered by a sta ⁇ tionary locking bar lock 44, which does not expose this lower angular part of groove 43, until key lock arm 42 has been turned a small distance, called "step 1" below.
- the release device itself for the inner safety lock comp ⁇ rises a slide 45, which is displaceable in a stationary slide guide 46.
- Slide 45 is provided with a slot 47, with which an angular part of the active lock arm 48 of a fragmentarily shown inner safety lock interferes.
- Lock arm 48 is designed to, in certain functional positions, be retained in slide 45 by means of a pivotable, bistable cock 49, which, when influenced by a plate spring 50, can occupy two different positions, namely one locked posi ⁇ tion, which is shown in Figs. 7 och 8, and an open po ⁇ sition, which is shown in Fig. 9.
- Cock 49 has on its locking hook part 51 a restoring pin 52, which has two different functions, which will be explained below, namely in a certain function to release cock 49 from lock arm 48 of the inner safety lock and in another func ⁇ tion to restore cock 49 to its locking position for the inner safety lock.
- Re ⁇ leasing link 53 brings about, in a normal "not locked” position, a transition of the pivoting movement of outer lock arm 38 to outer handle arm 33 and vice versa and brings about an opening up of the door by the outer handle, whereas it, in a "locked” position makes pin 54 follow a lower angular part (not shown) of slot 55, outer handle arm 33 staying unactuated during a pivoting of key lock arm 42, main lock arm 37 and outer lock arm 38.
- outer handle arm can, in such a "locked” position, be pivoted freely without in any way actuating the lock mechanism into a position, which opens it.
- Inner handle arm 35 interacts with outer handle arm 33 and a release of outer handle arm 33 results in, in the shown embodiment, that inner handle arm 35 also will be released.
- disconnection arm 56 for cock 49 On the key lock arm 42 there is a disconnection arm 56 for cock 49, which arm 42 is pivotable as a double-armed lever about a pin 57.
- One of the ends of arm 56 is placed above groove 43 in the key lock arm, namely in such a position, locking position 2, that disconnection arm 56 is not actuated by the locking bar, until the outer handle has been disconnected, which is done in locking position 1.
- a cam 58 is provided, designed to, when locking posi ⁇ tion 2 is occupied, actuate lower part 52 of the cock and remove the same from its interference with lock arm 48 and consequently to a complete release from the inner safety lock.
- Case I The door closed - not locked (see Fig. 7) : In this position outer handle arm 33 as well as inner handle arm 35 and safety lock 48 are functioning, and safety lock 48 can be actuated in order to bring about a disconnection of outer handle 33.
- Safety lock 48 is depressed. Slide 45 is then depressed to its bottom position in slide guide 46; cock 49 is still placed in its locking position, in which it grasps the angular end of lock arm 48, which is placed in slide slot 47; main lock arm 37, which is pivotably connected to slide 45, is pivoted in the counter clockwise direc ⁇ tion as is shown in Figs.
- the key (not shown) interferes with locking bar groove 43 for the key in key lock arm 42; the key lock arm is turned downwards a certain distance to a bottom position, which is shown in Fig. S and 9; link 41 pulls outer lock arm 38 along and the latter pulls in its turn main lock arm 37 as well as releasing link 53 along, which latter with its pin 54 slides into slot 55 in outer handle arm 33.
- main lock arm 37 also pulls slide 45 along with inner safety lock 48, downwards to its bottom position, cock 49 still being retained in a locking position for lock arm 48 by blade spring 50, which retains the cock by interfereing with a groove in the same.
- the central lock motor is also actuated via a link from lock arm part 39, and in this way all outer handle arms 33 are released, all doors in the car as a matter of fact being locked.
- locking position step 1 is a security position, which ren ⁇ ders possible an opening up of all the doors, in case the inner safety lock on the side of the driver's seat is pulled upwards, e.g. if one's child, one's dog or cat has been temporarily placed in the locked car.
- the locking bar slides with its actuation part in locking bar groove 43 and pivots key lock arm 42 upwards and actu ⁇ ates through link 41 outer lock arm 38, releasing link 53 for outer handle arm 33, main lock arm 37 and central lock motor 40. Also, slide 45 is pushed upwards to its upper position in slide guide 46.
