不定形重合体粒子の製造方法
技 術 分 野
本発明は、 不定形重合体粒子の製造法に関し、 詳細には、 平均粒径が大き く、 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒子が極 めて少なく、 見掛け比重が小さ く、 吸水性、 通気性、 通液 性に優れた吸水性樹脂として有用な不定形重合体粒子の製 造方法に関する。
背 景 技 術
吸水性樹脂は、 その吸水性や保水性を利用して、 衛生材 料等の医療分野、 食品工業分野、 農芸分野等に広く用いら れている。 特に、 生理用品、 紙おむつ等の衛生材料に用い る場合には、 単位重量当たりの吸水量が多いこと、 吸水速 度が速いこ とに加えて、 平均粒径が大き く、 粉塵災害の原 因となる 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒子を含まないこと が要求されている。 前記吸水量は樹脂の分子構造に依存し、 また同重量の樹脂では樹脂粉末の粒径が小さいほど表面積 が大き くなり、 吸水速度も速くなると考えられるので、 吸 水性樹脂に適した分子構造を有し、 且つ樹脂粉末の粒径が 小さい吸水性.樹脂の製造方法が種々提案されている。
例えば、 特開昭 5 7 — 1 6 7 3 0 2号公報には、 重合時 の分散安定剤として特定の界面活性剤を用いて重合させ、 吸水性樹脂の粉末を微粒子 ( 1 〜 4 0 m ) 化するこ とに より、 吸水速度の改善を試みた提案がなされている。 しか し、 単に吸水性樹脂の粉末を微粒子化しただけでは、 吸水 の途中にままこ現象が生じ、 そのため充分な吸水速度が得 られないという問題がある。
また、 特開昭 6 2 — 1 0 6 9 0 2号公報には、 モノ マー の〇ZWZ〇ェマルジ ヨ ンを製造し、 モノ マーを重合する ことで内部に空孔を有する表面積の大きな吸水性多孔性ポ リマーの製造方法が記載されている。 しかし、 該製造方法 では、 0/W/0ェマルジヨ ンの製造工程が煩雑な上、 得' られるポリマーの空孔が必ずしも連通しておらず、 初期吸 水速度が充分な吸水性樹脂が得られないという問題がある。 一方、 特開昭 6 1 — 2 0 0 1 0 2号公報には、 油中水滴 型の逆相懸濁重合を 0〜 2 0 °Cで重合を開始させ、 3 0 % の重合率に達するまで重合温度を保持した後、 昇温して重 合を完結させる吸水性樹脂粒子の製造方法が提案されてお り、 該製造方法によって、 1 〜 4 0 / mの微粒子が比較的 緩く結合している、 空隙率が高く多孔性で吸水速度が速い 吸水性樹脂粒子が得られることが開示されている。 しかし、 該製造方法では、 先ず、 重合率 3 0 まで 0〜 2 0 °Cに重 合温度をコン トロールする必要があるが、 このような低温 で重合熱を効率的に除去して、 重合温度をコン トロールす ることは極めて困難であり、 量産化に適していないという 問題がある。 更には、 重合中、 重合槽へのポリマーの付着 も多く非生産的であるという問題もある。
一方、 アク リル酸アルカ リ金属塩等の逆相懸濁重合にお いて、 分散剤にソルビ夕ン脂肪酸エステルを用いる吸水性 樹脂の製造方法として、 特公昭 5 4 — 3 0 7 1 0号公報に 記載の方法、 特公昭 6 0 — 2 5 0 4 5号公報に記載の方法 等が知られている。 前者は、 H L B 3〜 6のソルビタン脂 肪酸エステルを、 後者は、 H L B 8〜 1 2の界面活性剤を 用いているが、 いずれの方法も得られる樹脂中に粒径が 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒子をかなりの割合で含んでお り、 得られる樹脂を取り扱う場合に粉塵対策が必要となり、 また該樹脂の膨潤時にはいわゆるママコ現象を起こ しゃす く、 その結果、 吸水速度や通液性に劣るという問題がある。 また、 特開昭 6 1 — 4 3 6 0 6号公報には、 H L B 1〜 1 5の蔗糖脂肪酸エステルの存在下で重合を行う高吸水性 樹脂の製造方法が提案されているが、 該製造方法も、 上記 ソルビ夕ン脂肪酸エステルを用いる方法と同様に、 得られ る樹脂中に粒径が 1 0 0 /z m以下の微粉末状の粒子をかな りの割合で含んでおり、 上述の問題を解消し得るものでは なかった。
更に、 特開昭 6 1 — 8 7 7 0 2号公報には、 H L B 2〜 1 6 の蔗糖脂肪酸エステルの存在下で重合を行う吸水性樹 脂の製造方法が提案されており、 特開昭 6 2 - 1 7 2 0 0 6号公報には、 H L B 2〜 1 6のポリ グリセリ ン脂肪酸ェ ステルの存在下で重合を行う吸水性樹脂の製造方法が提案 されている。 しかし、 これらの製造方法は、 モノマ一を一 括して仕込み、 重合を行う方法であるために、 重合温度を コン トロールすることが極めて困難で量産化に適さないと いう問題や、 重合中、 重合槽へのポリマーの付着が多く非 生産的であるという問題もある。
発 明 の 開 示
従って、 本発明の目的は、 平均粒径が大きく、 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒子が極めて少なく、 見掛け比重が小 さ く、 初期吸水速度等の吸水性、 通気性、 通液性に優れ、 且つ吸水後のゲル強度にも優れた吸水性樹脂として有用な 不定形重合体粒子を、 簡便な操作で、 生産性に優れ、 且つ 量産化可能に製造することができる不定形重合体粒子の製 造方法を提供することにある。
本発明者は、 鋭意検討した結果、 水溶性重合性モノマー を重合させる際に、 特定の H L Bを有する界面活性剤を分 散剤として使用することにより、 上記目的を達成し得るこ とを知見した。
本発明は、 上記知見に基づきなされたもので、 水溶性重 合性モノマーの水溶液と水溶性ラジカル重合開始剤と重合 に不活性な疎水性有機溶媒とを用いて、 上記疎水性有機溶 媒中で上記水溶性重合性モノマーの逆相懸濁重合を行うに 際し、 分散剤として、 H L Bが 1 3以上の界面活性剤 (へ ミァセタール結合の水素原子が疎水性基で置換された構造 を有するグリ コシ ド化合物、 及びグルコンァミ ド化合物を 除く) を存在させ、 且つ上記の水溶性重合性モノマーの水 溶液を還流条件下の上記疎水性有機溶媒中に逐次供給して、 逆相懸濁重合を行う ことを特徴とする不定形重合体粒子の 製造方法を提供するものである。
なお、 本発明の製造方法によって得られる不定形重合体 粒子は、 球状とはかけ離れた形状を有し、 ふるい法 ( J I S ) で測定された平均粒径が 1 0 0 m以上の空隙率の高 い不定形ポリマーであり、 そのため、 該不定形重合体粒子 の集合体である吸水性樹脂において、 速い吸水速度、 通気 性、 通液性、 吸水後のゲル強度を示すものである。
また、 本発明の製造方法によって得られる不定形重合体 粒子は、 重合系中にて、 低重合度の時点で数個〜数十個の モノマー微粒子が融着して生成しているためか、 得られる ポリマーにはその後の加工上で粉塵災害等の問題となりう る 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末は殆ど含まれない。

発明の詳細な説明 以下に、 本発明の不定型重合体粒子の製造方法を詳細に 説明する。 なお、 文中 「%」 は、 特に説明がない場合には すべて 「重量%」 である。
本発明において用いる水溶性重合性モノマーとしては、 好ま しく はォレフイ ン系不^和カルボン酸又はその塩、 ォ レフ イ ン系不飽和カルボン酸エステル、 ォ レフ ィ ン系不飽 和スルホン酸又はその塩、 ォレフ ィ ン系不飽和リ ン酸又は その塩、 ォレフ ィ ン系不飽和ァ ミ ン、 ォレフ ィ ン系不飽和 アンモニゥム塩、 ォレフィ ン系不飽和ア ミ ド等の重合性不 飽和基を有する ビニルモノ マーが挙げられる。 このうち、 本発明においては、 特にォレフィ ン系不飽和カルボン酸又 はその塩を好ま しく 用いるこ とができる。
前記ォレフィ ン系不飽和カルボン酸又はその塩としては、 例えば、 アク リ ル酸、 メタアク リ ル酸、 マレイ ン酸、 フマ ール酸若しく はこれらのアルカ リ塩等が挙げられ、 前記ォ レフィ ン系不飽和カルボン酸エステルとしては、 例えば、 メ トキシポリエチレングリ コール (メタ) ァク リ レー ト、 フエノキシポリエチレングリ コール (メタ) ァク リ レー ト、 ヒ ドロキシェチル (メタ) ァク リ レー ト等が挙げられ、 前 記ォレ フイ ン系不飽和スルホン酸又はその塩としては、 例 えば、 (メタ) アク リルア ミ ドメチルプロパンスルホン酸、 ァ リ ルスルホン酸若しく はこれらのアルカ リ塩が挙げられ、 前記ォレフィ ン系不飽和リ ン酸又はその塩としては、 例え ば、 (メタ) ァク リ ロイル (ポリ) ォキシエチレン リ ン酸 エステル若しく はこれらのアル力 リ塩等が挙げられ、 前記 ォレフィ ン系不飽和ァ ミ ンとしては、 例えば、 ジメチルァ ミ ノェチル (メタ) ァク リ レー ト等が挙げられ、 前記ォレ フィ ン系不飽和ァンモニゥム塩としては、 例えば、 (メ 夕) ァク リ ロイルォキシエチレン ト リ メチルアンモニゥム ハロゲン塩等が挙げられ、 前記ォレフィ ン系不飽和ァ ミ ド としては、 (メ タ) アク リ ルア ミ ド、 N—メチル (メタ) アク リルア ミ ド、 N—ェチル (メタ) アク リ ルア ミ ド、 N —プロ ピル (メタ) アク リルア ミ ド等の (メタ) アク リ ル ァ ミ ド誘導体ゃビニルメチルァセ トア ミ ド等が挙げられ、 これらを 1 種または 2種以上の混合物として用いるこ とが できる。 また、 前記アルカ リ塩と しては、 アルカ リ金属塩、 アルカ リ土類金属塩又はァンモニゥム塩等が挙げられる。 前記水溶性重合性モノマーの水溶液における前記水溶性 重合性モノマーの濃度は、 好ま しく は 1 0〜 8 0 更に 好ま しく は 4 0〜 6 0 %である。
本発明において用いる水溶性ラジカル開始剤としては、 特に限定される ものではないが、 例えば、 メチルェチルケ ト ンパーォキシ ド、 メチルイ ソプチルケ ト ンパーォキシ ド 等のケ ト ンパーォキシ ド、 ジ— t 一ブチルパーォキシ ド、 t ーブチルク ミ ルパーォキシ ド等のジアルキルパーォキシ ド、 t 一ブチルパーォキシアセテー ト、 t—ブチルバ一ォ キシイ ソプチレー ト、 t一ブチルバーオキシピバレ一 ト等 のアルキルバーオキシエステル、 過酸化水素、 過硫酸カ リ ゥム、 過硫酸アンモニゥム等の過硫酸塩、 過塩素酸力 リ ウ ム、 過塩素酸ナ ト リウム等の過塩素酸塩、 塩素酸カ リ、 臭 素酸カ リ等のハロゲン酸塩、 2 — (力ルバモイルァゾ) ― イ ソプチロニ ト リル、 2 , 2 —ァゾビス ( N , N ' —ジメ チレンイ ソブチルア ミ ジン) ジヒ ドロクロ リ ド、 2 , 2 ' —ァゾビス ( 2 — ア ミ ジノプロ ノ、。ン) ジヒ ド ロクロ リ ド、 2 , 2 ' ーァゾビス ( N, N ' —ジメチレンイ ソブチルァ ミ ジン) 、 4 , 4 ' ーァゾビス ( 4一シァノペン夕ノイ ツ クァシ ド) 、 ァゾビスイ ソブチロニ ト リル、 2 , 2 ' —ァ ゾビス ( 4—メ トキシ一 2 , 4—ジメチルバレロニ ト リ ル) 、 ( 1 一フエニルェチル) アブジフエニルメタ ン、 ジ メチルー 2 , 2 ' —ァゾビスイ ソプチレー ト、 2 , 2 ' — ァゾビス ( 2 —メチルプチロニ ト リル) 、 1 , 1 ' —ァゾ ビス ( 1 ーシクロー へキサンカルボ二 ト リル) 、 2 , 2 ' ーァゾビス ( 2 , 4 , 4 ' — ト リ メチルペンタ ン) 、 2 — フエ二ルァゾ一 2 , 4—ジメチルー 4 ーメ トキシノく レロニ ト リ ル、 2 , 2 ' —ァゾビス ( 2 —メチルプロ ノ、。ン) 、 等 のァゾ化合物等を挙げることができ、 一種又は 2種以上の 混合物として用いることができる。
前記水溶性ラジカル重合開始剤の使用量は、 前記水溶性 重合性モノマーに対して、 通常 0 . 0 1 〜 1 0 %、 好まし く は 0 . 0 2〜 5 ある。
本発明において用いる重合に不活性な疎水性有機溶媒と しては、 n —ペンタン、 シクロペンタン、 n —へキサン、 シクロへキサン、 n —ヘプタン、 メチルシクロへキサン等 の脂肪族炭化水素、 ベンゼン、 トルエン等の芳香族炭化水 素、 n—ブチルアルコール、 n —ァ ミ ルアルコール等の炭 素数 4〜 6 の脂肪族アルコール、 メチルェチルケ ト ン等の 脂肪族ケ ト ン、 酢酸ェチル等の脂肪族エステル類等が挙げ られ、 これらを 1 種または 2種以上の混合物として用いる こ とができる。
また、 疎水性有機溶媒の使用量は、 前記水溶性重合性モ ノマーの水溶液に対して 5 0〜 5 0 0 %の範囲とするのが 好ま しい。
本発明において、 前記水溶性重合性モノ マーを重合させ る際に用いる分散剤は、 H L B 1 3以上、 好ま しく は H L B 1 3〜 1 8 の界面活性剤 (へミ アセタ一ル結合の水素原 子が疎水性基で置換された構造を有するグリ コシ ド化合物、 及びグルコンア ミ ド化合物を除く ) (以下、 「界面活性剤 A J と称す) である。
上記の H L Bが 1 3未満であると、 得られる重合体粒子 が球粒状も しく は球粒凝集状となる。 また、 1 8 を超える と、 界面活性剤 Aが疎水性有機溶媒に溶解しにく いため保 護コロイ ド剤として作用しにく く、 塊状重合体を生成し、 所望の不定形重合体粒子が得られないので、 上記範囲内で あるのが好ま しい。
こ こで、 H L Bは周知のように親水親油バラ ンスをいい、 一般には、 例えば、 「界面活性剤の性質と応用 (第二版 ) 」 〔刈米孝夫著、 P . 8 9〜 9 3 (幸書房) 〕 に記され ているように、 乳化試験による方法や乳化剤の分析値を用 いた計算方法により求められる。 本発明における H L Bは、 後者の計算方法、 具体的には、 まずグリ フィ ンの式で算出 し、 この式で算出できないものについてはディ ビーズの方 法、 ついでは有機概念図を応用した小田の方法を用いて求 められるものである。
前記界面活性剤 Aとしては、 特に限定されないが、 例え ば、 ポリオキシアルキレンソルビタ ン脂肪酸エステル、 シ ョ糖脂肪酸エステル、 ポリオキシアルキレンソルビトール 脂肪酸エステル、 ポリオキシアルキレングリセリ ン脂肪酸 エステル、 ポリ グリセリ ン脂肪酸エステル等の非イオン性 界面活性剤を好ま しく 用いるこ とができ、 具体的には下記 の化合物等を挙げるこ とができる。
上記ポリオキシアルキレンソルビタ ン脂肪酸エステルと しては、 例えば、 ポリ オキシエチレンソルビタ ンモノ ラウ レー ト ( E 0 ; 4モル付加体, 6 モル付加体) 、 ポリオキ シエチレンソルビタンモノ ラウ レー ト ( E〇 ; 2 0モル付 加体) 、 ポリオキシエチレンソルビタ ンモノパルミ テー ト ( E 0 ; 2 0モル付加体) 、 ポリォキシェチレンソルビ夕 ンモノステアレー ト (E〇 ; 2 0モル付加体, 6モル付加 体) の H L Bが 1 3〜 1 8のもの等が好ま しく挙げられる, 上記ショ糖脂肪酸エステルとしては、 ショ糖ステア リ ン酸 エステル、 ショ糖パルミ チン酸エステル、 ショ糖ォレイ ン 酸エステル、 ショ糖ラウ リ ン酸エステル等が挙げられ、 こ れらのうち、 H L Bが 1 3〜 1 8のものが好ま しく、 H L B 1 5〜 1 8のものが更に好ま しく、 H L B 1 6〜 1 8の ものが最も好ま しい。 上記ポリオキシアルキレンソルビト 一ル脂肪酸エステルとしては、 ポリオキシエチレンソルビ トールテ トラオレー ト (E O ; 6 0モル付加体) 、 ポリオ キシエチレンソルビトールテ トララウレー ト (E O ; 6 0 モル付加体) ポリオキシエチレンソルビトールテ トラパル ミ テー ト (E O ; 6 0モル付加体) ポリオキシエチレンソ ルビ トールテ トラステアレー ト (E〇 ; 6 0モル付加体) の H L Bが 1 3〜 1 8のもの等が好ま しく挙げられる。 上 記ポリオキシアルキレングリセ リ ン脂肪酸エステルとして は、 ポリオキシエチレングリセ リ ンモノ カプリ レー ト ( E 0 ; 4 0モル付加体) 、 ポリォキシェチレングリセ リ ンモ ノ ラウ レー ト (E O ; 5 0モル付加体) 、 ポリオキシェチ レ ングリセリ ンモノステアレー ト ( E〇 ; 6 0モル付加 体) 等の H L Bが 1 3〜 1 8のものが好ま しく挙げられる c 上記ポリ グリセ リ ン脂肪酸エステルとしては、 ォクタグリ セリルモノ カプリ レー ト、 デカグリセ リ ルモノ ラウ レー ト、 ドデカグリセリルモノステアレー ト等の H L Bが 1 3〜 1 8のものが好ましく挙げられ、 市販品を用いることもでき 0
また、 上記のポリオキシアルキレン基を有する化合物に おける、 アルキレン基としては、 上述した具体例に示した ようにエチレン基が好ましいが、 H L Bが 1 3以上、 好ま しく は 1 3〜 1 8 となる範囲であればエチレン基及びプロ ピレン基の両方を有する化合物を用いることもできる。 前記界面活性剤 Aは、 1種のみで用いても十分効果があ るが、 2種以上混合して用いることもできる。 この際、 混 合使用する場合には、 両方とも同じ種類である必要はなく、 各々の界面活性剤 Aの種類は特に制限されない。
また、 混合使用する場合に、 用いる界面活性剤 Aの全て が H L Bが 1 3以上の範囲である必要はなく、 混合物とし ての H L Bが 1 3以上、 好ましく は 1 3〜 1 8の範囲にあ れば、 各々の界面活性剤 Aの H L Bも特に制限されない。 前記界面活性剤 Aの使用量は、 少量でも効果が発揮され、 前記水溶性重合性モノマーに対して好ましく は 0. 0 1 % 〜 2 0 %、 更に好ましく は 0. 0 2〜 1 0 %であり、 特に ショ糖脂肪酸エステルの場合には、 0. 0 2〜 2 %が最も 好ましい。 0. 0 1 %未満の場合には本発明の所望の効果 が発現し難く、 2 0 %を超えて用いても経済的に不利益で あるので好ましくない。
本発明において、 水溶性重合性モノマーの水溶液と水溶 性ラジカル重合開始剤と前記疎水性有機溶媒とを用いて、 前記疎水性有機溶媒中で前記水溶性重合性モノマーの逆相 懸濁重合を行うには、 水溶性重合性モノマーの水溶液を、 該水溶性重合性モノマーの童合の進行に従って、 還流条件 下の上記疎水性有機溶媒中に逐次供給して逆相懸濁重合を 行う ことが平均粒径の大きな不定形重合体粒子を簡便に製 造するためには必要不可欠であり、 具体的には、 下記①〜 ③に示す方法等が用いられる。
①水溶性重合性モノマーの水溶液を疎水性有機溶媒の中に 滴下しながら逐次重合させる方法 (逐次重合法)
②水溶性重合性モノマーの水溶液を予め一部の疎水性有機 溶媒と混合又は分散して得られる混合溶液を、 疎水性有機 溶媒の中に滴下しながら重合する方法 (前分散法)
③前記①及び②を併用した方法。
尚、 前記水溶性ラジカル重合開始剤の添加方法は、 特に 制限されないが、 前記重合性水溶性モノマーの水溶液に予 め添加するのが好ましい。
前記重合における重合温度は、 通常 4 0〜 1 5 0 °C、 好 ましく は 6 0〜 9 0 °Cの範囲の前記疎水性溶媒が還流する 温度が適当である。 1 5 0 °Cを超えると架橋が極度に高ま るために重合体の吸水能が低下し、 4 0 °C未満の場合には、 重合速度が極端に低下するばかりでなく、 誘導期が著しく 長くなり突発的な重合を引き起こ し、 塊状物を生成しやす くなるので好ましくない。
上記の逆相懸濁重合を、 水溶性重合性モノ マーの水溶液 と疎水性溶媒とを一括に混合し、 その後重合させる一括重 合法で行う と、 目的とする形状、 粒径の不定形重合体粒子 (吸水性樹脂) を得ることができないばかりか、 重合によ る発熱の除去が困難なため暴走反応を誘発したり、 数セン チにも及ぶ塊状物を生成する。
また、 前記逆相懸濁重合に際し、 分散剤として上記界面 活性剤 Aを存在させる方法としては、 下記 ( 1 ) 〜 ( 4 ) に示す方法等を挙げることができる。
( 1 ) 界面活性剤 Aを、 予め疎水性有機溶媒に分散させる 方法。
( 2 ) 界面活性剤 Aを、 予め水溶性重合性モノマーの水溶 液に溶解若しく は分散させる方法。
( 3 ) 上記重合を行いながら、 徐々に界面活性剤 Aを添加 する方法。
( 4 ) 前記 ( 1 ) 〜 ( 3 ) を併用した方法。
なお、 本発明においては、 重合性モノマーとしては、 前 述の水溶性重合性モノ マーのみを用いて単独重合あるいは 共重合することが好ましいが、 前記水溶性重合性モノ マー と共重合し得る水不溶性モノ マー、 例えば、 炭素数 1 〜 2 2のアルキル基と、 アク リ ル酸、 メタク リル酸、 マレイ ン 酸、 フマール酸等の不飽和カルボン酸とのエステルモノマ 一等を全モノマーの 5 0 %以下の量で併用するこ ともでき る
また、 前記疎水性溶媒以外に疎水性溶媒の使用量を超え ない範囲で両親媒性の溶剤を加えるこ ともできる。 両親媒 性の溶剤としては、 メタノ ール、 エタノール、 プロパノ一 ル、 2 —プロパノール等のアルコール類、 アセ ト ン等のケ ト ン類、 ジェチルエーテル、 ジプロ ピルエーテル、 テ トラ ヒ ドロフラ ン、 ジォキサン等のエーテル類等が挙げられる。 更に、 前記界面活性剤 A以外に、 カチオン性界面活性剤、 両性イオン性界面活性剤、 陰イオン性界面活性剤、 高分子 型分散剤等を、 前記界面活性剤 A 1 0 0重量部に対し好ま しく は 1 0 0重量部以下の使用量で併用するこ ともできる。 また、 本発明においては、 重合前、 重合時、 重合後のい ずれかにて公知の架橋剤を添加するこ とができる。 前記架 橋剤としては、 例えば、 N , N —ジァ リ ル (メタ) ァク リ ルア ミ ド、 ジァ リルァ ミ ン、 ジァ リ ノレフ夕 レー ト、 ジァ リ ルマレー ト、 ジァ リルテレフ夕 レー ト、 ト リァ リルシアヌ レー ト、 ト リア リ ルフ ォスフェー ト等のポリア リル化合物、 ジビニルベンゼン、 N , N—メチレンビスアク リルア ミ ド、 エチレングリ コ一ルジァク リ レー ト、 エチレングリ コール ジメタク リ レー ト、 グリセリ ン ト リ メタク リ レー ト等のポ リ ビニル化合物、 ェチレングリ コ一ルジグリ シジルエーテ ル、 ポリ エチ レ ングリ コールジグリ シジルエーテル、 ポリ グリ セ リ ンポリ グリ シジルエーテル等のポリ グリ シジルェ 一テル、 ェピクロルヒ ドリ ン、 ひ一メチルクロルヒ ドリ ン 等のハロエポキシ化合物、 グルタールアルデヒ ド、 グリ オ キザ一ル等のポリアルデヒ ド、 グリセリ ン等のポリオール、 エチレンジア ミ ン等のポリア ミ ン、 2 — ヒ ドロキシェチル メタク リ レー ト等のヒ ドロキシビニル化合物、 またはカル シゥ厶、 マグネシウム、 亜鉛及びアルミニウム等の多価ィ オンを生じる無機塩又は有機金属塩等を挙げるこ とができ る。
また、 フエノールポリオキシエチレングリ シジルェ一テ ル等のモノ グリ シジル化合物を改質剤として用いるこ とも できる。
上記架橋剤または改質剤の使用量は、 最終生成物のポリ マーの所望の性状に従い任意の量とするこ とができるが、 通常生成するポリマーに対して 0 . 0 1 〜 1 0 %の範囲に なる様にするこ とが好ま しい。
以上のようにして製造したポリマ一は、 重合後直接又は 溶媒をデカ ンテーショ ンゃ遠心分離により除去した後に、 減圧乾燥機、 流動乾燥機等の手段を用いて乾燥するこ とに より不定形重合体粒子として得るこ とができる。 また得ら れた粒子は、 必要に応じて粉砕、 造粒処理を施す等するこ とにより、 所望の粒径にすることも可能である。
一般に、 ソルビタンエステルやショ糖エステルなど非ィ オン性界面活性剤は、 水溶性モノマーの懸濁重合に使用さ れて、 球状の重合体が安定に製造できることが良く知られ ている。 本発明において、 なぜ不定形重合体が得られるの か、 そのメカニズムの詳細は明らかでないが、 前記界面活 性剤 Aが分散液滴粒子の形状を球形に保持できない程度に 幾分不安定化させながらも、 その分散液滴粒子同士は凝集 させないような、 非常に微妙な分散安定性のバランスを保 つている液滴粒子分散系を与えるためと考えられる。
〔実施例〕
以下に、 実施例及び比較例により本発明を更に詳細に説 明するが、 本発明はこれらに限定されるものではない。 なお、 実施例及び比較例で行なった試験方法は、 次の通 りである。
〔平衡膨潤吸水量の測定法〕
ポリマー l gを大過剰の生理食塩水 ( 0 . 9 %食塩水) 中に分散して、 該ポリマーをその吸水量が平衡状態になる まで膨潤させた後、 生理食塩水を 8 0 メ ッシュの金網で濾 過し、 得られた膨潤ポリマーの重量 (W ) を測定し、 この 値を吸水前のポリマー重量 W。 で除して得られる値、 即ち、 WZW。 の値を平衡膨潤吸水量 ( g Z g ) とした。
〔吸水速度を表わす吸水量の測定法〕 DW法を実施する装置として一般的に知られている図 1 に示す装置(Demand Wettability Tester) を用い、 図 1 に 示す如く、 生理食塩水 Wの液面を等水位にセッ トしたポリ マー散布台 2 ( 7 0龍 ø、 No. 2濾紙をガラスフィルター No. 1 に置いた台) 上に、 ポリマー Pを 0. 3 g散布し、 ポリマーを散布した時点の吸水量を 0 とし、 3 0秒後の吸 水量 (この吸水量は、 生理食塩水 Wの水位の低下量を示す ビュ レツ トの目盛で測定される) を測定し、 この値を吸水 速度を表わす吸水量 (ml) とした。
〔生理食塩水の通液速度の測定法〕
図 2に示す装置 1 0 (内径 2 5. 6 mm、 長さ約 5 0 0 mm
(円筒部分) のコック付きガラス円筒フィルタ一) にポリ マー 0. 5 gを充塡し、 過剰の生理食塩水を用い、 ポリマ 一を平衡膨潤させ、 液面を下部より 2 0 0 mlのところに合 わせてコッ クをし、 膨潤したポリマー Pが図示の如く充分 に沈降したことを確かめてコッ クを開き、 生理食塩水 Wが 図に示す 2本の標線 L (下部より 1 5 0mlの地点) 、 M
(下部より 1 0 0mlの地点) 間 (液量 5 0 ml) を通過する 時間を測定し、 標線間の液量 (ml) を測定時間 (min ) で 除して通液速度 (ml/min ) とした。
〔平均粒径の算出方法〕
ポリマー 1 0 0 gを J I Sフルイを用いて分級し、 各フ ラクショ ンの重量分率より平均粒径を求めた。 実施例 1
アク リル酸 1 0 2. 0 8を 2 5. 5 gの水で希釈し、 冷 却しつつ 3 0 \¥{%水酸化ナ ト リ ウム水溶液 1 4 0. 0 gで 中和した後、 5. 2 wt%過硫酸カ リ ウム水溶液 7. 9 gを 加えて均一溶液とし、 モノマー 開始剤水溶液を作った。
別に、 還流冷却管、 滴下漏斗、 撹拌棒、 及び窒素導入管 を備えた 1 0 0 O ralのフラスコにシクロへキサン 4 0 0 ml を取り、 分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシェチレ ンソルビタンモノォレー ト 〔E O : 2 0モル付加体、 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 5. 1 gを加えて撹拌 ( 3 5 0 r p m) · 分散させ、 フラスコを 窒素置換した後、 7 5 °Cに昇温して、 シクロへキサンを還 流させた。 これに前述のモノマー 開始剤水溶液を 1 時間 に渡り滴下し、 滴下完了後、 7 5てで 0. 5時間、 さらに 8 0てで 4時間撹拌 · 重合した。
重合終了後、 生成物を分別し、 減圧下に乾燥することに より、 1 0 7. 5 gのアク リル酸 (ナト リウム) 重合体を 得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 6 8 0 mの歪な形 状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 4 7 g/mlであり、 1 0 0 zm以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含まれていなかつ た。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 数〜 2 0 mの不定形 粒子が互いに融着したような構造をしており、 表面の凹凸 が極めて著しいものであった。 実施例 2
アク リル酸 1 0 2. 0 gを 2 5. 5 gの水に溶解した後、 冷却しつつ 3 0 wt%水酸化ナ ト リウム水溶液 1 4 0. 0 g で中和した後、 5. 2 wt%過硫酸カ リウム水溶液 7. 9 g、 エポキシ系二官能性架橋剤 〔エチレングリ コールジグリ シ ジルエーテル、 長瀬化成工業 (株) 製, 商品名 「デナコー ル E X 8 1 0」 〕 0. 0 5 1 gを加えて均一溶液とし、 モ ノマー/開始剤水溶液を作った。
別に、 還流冷却管、 滴下漏斗、 撹拌棒、 及び窒素導入管 を備えた 1 0 0 0 mlのフラスコにシクロへキサン 4 0 0 ml を取り、 分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシェチレ ンソルビタンモノォレー ト 〔E O : 2 0モル付加体、 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 5. 1 gを加えて撹拌 ( 3 5 0 r p m) ' 分散させ、 フラスコを 窒素置換した後、 7 5 °Cに昇温して、 シクロへキサンを還 流させた。 これに前述のモノマー Z開始剤水溶液を 1 時間 に渡り滴下し、 滴下完了後、 7 5 °Cで 0. 5時間、 さらに 8 0 で 4時間撹拌 · 重合した。
重合終了後、 生成物を分別し、 減圧下に乾燥することに より、 1 0 5. 3 gのアク リル酸 (ナ ト リウム) 重合体を 得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 5 7 0 mの歪な形 状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 4 5 gZmlであり、 1 0 0 im以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含まれていなかつ た。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 数〜 2 0 mの不定形 粒子が互いに融着したような構造をしており、 表面の凹凸 が極めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 平衡膨潤吸水量、 吸水速度を 表す吸水量及び生理食塩水の通液速度の測定を行った。 そ の結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 3
分散剤として H L B 1 5 . 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタ ンモノォレー ト 〔E〇 : 2 0 モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール T W— 0 1 2 0 J 〕 2 . 5 gを用 いた以外は、 実施例 2 と同様にしてアク リル酸 (ナト リウ 厶) 重合体 1 1 1 . 1 gを得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均 粒径 : 7 1 0 /z mの歪な形状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度 は 0 . 3 6 g Zmlであり、 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒 子は殆ど含まれていなかった。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面 は、 1 0〜 5 0 z mの不定形粒子が互いに融着したような 構造をしており、 表面の凹凸が極めて著しいものであった。 得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 4
分散剤として H L B 1 5 . 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタンモノォレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0 モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール T W — 0 1 2 0 J 〕 1 . 5 gを用 い、 またシクロへキサンの使用量を 8 0 O mlとした以外は、 実施例 2 と同様にしてアク リル酸 (ナト リ ウム) 重合体 1 15 . 1 gを得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 3 7 0 mの歪な形状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 5 5 g /mlであり、 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含ま れていなかった。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 2 0〜 5 0 mの不定形粒子が互いに融着したような構造をしてお り、 表面の凹凸が極めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 5
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタンモノォレー ト 〔E O : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 の代わりに、 H L B 1 3. 3のポリオキシエチレンソルビタンモノラウ レー ト 〔E 0 : 6モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レ オ ドール TW— L 1 0 6」 〕 を用いた以外は、 実施例 4 と 同様にしてアク リル酸 (ナト リ ウム) 重合体 1 0 2. 5 g を得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 9 4 0 mの歪な 形状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 7 4 gZmlであり、 1 0 0 u m以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含まれていなかつ た。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 5 0〜 2 0 0 mの不 定形粒子が互いに融着したような構造をしており、 表面の 凹凸が極めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 6
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタンモノォレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW - 0 1 2 0」 〕 の代わりに、 H L B 1 6. 7のポリオキシエチレンソルビ夕ンモノラウ レー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— L 1 2 0」 〕 を用いた以外は、 実施例 4 と同様にしてアク リル酸 (ナ ト リウム) 重合体 1 1 7. 5 gを得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 6 3 0 umの 歪な形状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 5 2 gZmlで あり、 1 0 0 以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含まれてい なかった。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 5 0〜 2 0 0 〃 mの不定形粒子が互いに融着したような構造をしており、 表面の凹凸が極めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 7
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタンモノォレー ト 〔E O : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0 J 〕 の代わりに、 H L B 1 4. 9のポリオキシエチレンソルビ夕 ンモノステ ァレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオドール TW— S 1 2 0」 〕 2. 5 gを用いた以外は、 実施例 4 と同様にしてアク リル酸 (ナト リウム) 重合体 1 0 1 . 0 gを得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 7 5 0 mの歪な形状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 3 9 g /mlであり、 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含ま れていなかった。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 1 0〜 5 0 /zmの不定形粒子が互いに融着したような構造をしてお り、 表面の凹凸が極めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 8
分散剤として H L B 1 6. 7のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタンモノラウレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 ( 株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— L 1 2 0」 〕 に 5 g と、 H L B 9. 6のポリ オキシエチレンソルビタ ンモノス テアレー ト 〔E 0 : 6モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— S 1 0 6」 〕 1. O gとを混合して得 られた混合物 (混合物の H L Bは 1 3, 9である) を用い た以外は、 実施例 6 と同様にしてァク リル酸 (ナ ト リウ ム) 重合体 1 0 9. 9 gを得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均 粒径 : 8 8 0 の歪な形状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度 は 0. 6 6 gZmlであり、 1 0 0 / m以下の微粉末状の粒 子は殆ど含まれていなかった。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面 は、 5 0〜 1 5 0 mの不定形粒子が互いに融着したよう な構造をしており、 表面の凹凸が極めて著しいものであつた 得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行った その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 9
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタンモノォレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1. 2 0」 〕 1 . 5 gの代 わりに、 H L B 1 5. 0のショ糖ステア リ ン酸エステル 〔三菱化成食品 (株) 製, 商品名 「リ ヨ一トーシュガーェ ステル, S— 1 5 7 0」 〕 0. 5 gを用いた以外は、 実施 例 4 と同様にしてアク リル酸 (ナ ト リ ウム) 重合体 1 1 8. 2 gを得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 4 2 0 〃mの 歪な形状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 5 5 gZmlで あり、 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含まれてい なかった。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 1 0〜 5 0 mm の不定形粒子が互いに融着したような構造をしており、 表 面の凹凸が極めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 1 0 分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキンエチレンソル ビタンモノォレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 の代わりに、 H L B 1 6. 0のショ糖ステアリ ン酸エステル 〔三菱化成 食品 (株) 製, 商品名 「リ ヨ一トーシュガーエステル, S — 1 6 7 0」 〕 0. 8 gを用いた以外は、 実施例 4 と同様 にしてアク リル酸 (ナト リ ウム) 重合体 1 1 6. 3 gを得 た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 5 3 0 zmの歪な形状 をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 5 9 gZmlであり、 1 0 0 /m以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含まれていなかった。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 1 0〜 5 0 zmの不定形粒 子が互いに融着したような構造をしており、 表面の凹凸が 極めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 1 1
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタンモノォレー ト 〔E〇 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 の代わりに、 H L B 1 3. 8のポリオキシエチレンソルビトールテトラ ォレー ト 〔E 0 : 6 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール 4 6 0」 〕 5. 1 gを用いた以外は、 実施例 4 と同様にしてアク リル酸 (ナ ト リウム) 重合体 1 0 5. 0 gを得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 8 9 0 Aimの 歪な形状をした顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 6 1 gZmlで あり、 1 0 0 zm以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含まれてい なかった。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 1 0 0〜 2 0 0 mの不定形粒子が互いに融着したような構造をしており、 表面の凹凸が極めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 1 2
アク リル酸 1 0 2. 0 を 2 5. 5 gの水で希釈し、 冷 却しつつ 3 0 wt%水酸化ナト リゥム水溶液 1 4 0. 0 gで 中和した後、 5. 2 wt%過硫酸カ リウム水溶液 7. 9 gを 加えて均一溶液とし、 モノマー 開始剤水溶液を得た。
別に、 還流冷却管、 滴下漏斗、 撹拌棒、 及び窒素導入管 を備えた 1 0 0 0 mlのフラスコにシクロへキサン 4 0 0 ml を取り、 分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシェチレ ンソルビタ ンモノォレー ト 〔E O : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 5. 1 gを加えて撹拌 ( 3 5 0 r p m) ' 分散させ、 フラスコを 窒素置換した後、 7 5 °Cに昇温して、 シクロへキサンを還 流させた。 これに前述のモノマー Z開始剤水溶液を 3 0分 間で滴下し、 滴下完了後、 7 5でで 1 . 5時間、 さらに 8 0 °Cで 4時間撹拌 ' 重合した。 このとき、 シクロへキサン と水との共沸還流液から水だけを系外に除去し続け、 ァク リル酸 (ナ ト リウム) 重合体粒子の含水率が 3 0 \^%に達 した時点で、 エポキシ系多官能性架橋剤 〔ポリ グリセロー ルポリ グリ シジルエーテル、 長瀬化成工業 (株) 製, 商品 名 「デナコール E X 5 1 2」 〕 0. 2 5 gを添加して 3 0 分間反応させた後、 生成物を分別し、 減圧下に乾燥するこ とにより、 1 1 9. 7 gの部分架橋アク リル酸 (ナ ト リウ ム) 重合体を得た。
得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 6 5 0 mの歪な形状を した顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 4 7 1111であり、 1 0 0 Z m以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含まれていなかつた。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 数〜 2 0 mの不定形粒子 が互いに融着したような構造をしており、 表面の凹凸が極 めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 4 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
実施例 1 3
アク リル酸 6 0. 0 gを 1 5. 0 gの水で希釈し、 冷却 しつつ 3 0 wt%水酸化ナト リ ゥム水溶液 8 2. 4 gで中和 した後、 5. 2 wt%過硫酸カ リウム水溶液 4. 4 g、 分散 剤として H L B 1 6. 0のショ糖ステアリ ン酸エステル 〔三菱化成食品 (株) 製, 商品名 「リ ヨ一トーシュガーェ ステル S— 1 6 7 0」 〕 1 . 6 0 g及びシク口へキサン 2 6 O mlを加えて攪拌し、 窒素置換をしてモノマー水溶液 (WZOェマルジョ ン) を得た。
別に、 還流冷却管、 滴下漏斗、 撹拌棒、 及び窒素導入管 を備えた 1 0 0 0 mlのフラスコにシクロへキサン 5 0 0 ml を取り、 フラスコを窒素置換した後、 7 5 °Cに昇温して、 シクロへキサンを還流させた。 これに前述のモノマ一水溶 液を、 3 5 0 r p mの攪拌下、 1 時間で滴下し、 滴下完了 後、 7 5 °Cで 1 . 5時間、 さらに 8 0 で 4時間撹拌 · 重 合した。 このとき、 シクロへキサンと水との共沸還流液か ら水だけを系外に除去し続け、 ァク リル酸 (ナト リ ゥム) 重合体粒子の含水率が 3 0 \¥1%に達した時点で、 エポキシ 系多官能性架橋剤 〔ポリ グリセロールポリ ジグリ シジルェ —テル、 長瀬化成工業 (株) 製, 商品名 「デナコール E X 5 1 2 J 〕 0. 2 5 gを添加して 3 0分間反応させた後、 生成物を分別し、 減圧下に乾燥することにより、 7 3. 5 gの部分架橋アク リル酸 (ナト リ ウム) 重合体を得た。 得られた重合体は、 平均粒径 : 4 3 0 zmの歪な形状を した顆粒状粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 5 2 gZmlであり、 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒子は殆ど含まれていなかった。 また、 前記重合体粒子表面は、 1 0〜 5 0 mの不定形粒 子が互いに融着したような構造をしており、 表面の凹凸が 極めて著しいものであった。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 4 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
比較例 1
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタンモノォレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0 モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 の代わりに H L B 5. 4 9のェチルセルロース (ハーキュ レス社製、 商 品名 「ェチルセルロース N— 7」 ェ トキシ置換度 2. 4 1 〜 2. 5 1、 尚、 H L Bはモノマーユニッ トを基に有機概 念図を用いて算出) 0. 9 gを用いた他は、 実施例 2 と同 様にしてアク リル酸 (ナ ト リウム) 重合体を得た。 得られ たアク リル酸 (ナ ト リウム) 重合体は、 粒径が 3 3 0 の真球状の粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 9 4 gZmlであった。 得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
比較例 2
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビ夕ンモノォレー ト 〔E〇 : 2 0 モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 の代わりに H L B 5. 0 のソルビタ ンモノステアレー ト (花王社製、 商 品名、 「レオ ドール S P— S 1 0 」 ) 2. 9 gを用いた 以外は、 実施例 2 と同様にしてアク リル酸 (ナ ト リ ウム) 重合体 1 1 7. 9 gを得た。 得られたアク リル酸 (ナト リ ゥム) 重合体は、 平均粒径が 5 0 // mの真球状の粒子とそ れらが互いに凝集した平均粒径 5 9 0 zmの二次粒子との 混合物で、 嵩密度は 0. 6 5 gZmlであった。 また、 得ら れた得られた二次粒子を、 生理食塩水に投入したところ該 二次粒子の一部は簡単に一次粒子単独に戻った。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
比較例 3
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタ ンモノォレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 の代わりに H L B 9. 6のポリオキシエチレンソルビタンモノステアレ ー ト 〔E 0 : 6モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— S 1 0 6 J 〕 1 . 8 gを用いた以外は、 実施 例 2 と同様にしてァク リル酸 (ナ ト リゥム) 重合体 1 1 7. 9 gを得た。 得られたァク リル酸 (ナ ト リゥム) 重合体は、 嵩密度は 0. 6 8 gZmlであり、 粒径が 3〜 3 0 mmの金平 糖状の粒子が主成分であるが、 数; の微粉末状のポリマ 一も数%含まれていた。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
比較例 4
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタンモノォレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 の代わりに H L B 1 1 . 0のシュガーエステル 〔三菱化成食品 (株) 社 製、 商品名、 「リ ヨウ トウシュガーエステル S— 1 1 7 0 J 〕 1 . 8 gを用いた以外は、 実施例 2 と同様にしてァ ク リル酸 (ナ ト リウム) 重合体 1 1 8. 6 gを得た。 得ら れたァク リル酸 (ナ ト リウム) 重合体は、 平均粒径が 1 3 mの真球状の粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 5 9 gZmlであった。 得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行った。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。
比較例 5
分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシエチレンソル ビタ ンモノォレー ト 〔E 0 : 2 0モル付加体, 花王 (株) 製, 商品名 「レオ ドール TW— 0 1 2 0」 〕 の代わりに H L B 5. 4 9のェチルセルロース (ハーキュ レス社製、 商 品名 「ェチルセルロース N— 7」 エトキン置換度 2. 4 1 〜 2. 5 1、 尚、 H L Bはモノマーュニッ トを基に有機概 念図を用いて算出) 0. 9 gを用いた以外は、 実施例 1 2 と同様にしてアク リル酸 (ナ ト リ ウム) 重合体 1 1 8. 3 gを得た。 得られたァク リル酸 (ナ ト リ ゥム) 重合体は、 平均粒径が 3.5 0 mの真球状の粒子で、 嵩密度は 0. 9 3 g /mlであつた。
得られた重合体について、 実施例 2 と同様の測定を行つ た。 その結果を 〔表 1 〕 に示す。 比較例 6
アク リル酸 1 0 2. 0 8を 2 5. 5 gの水で希釈し、 冷 却しつつ 3 0 wt%水酸化ナト リゥム水溶液 1 4 0. 0 gで 中和した後、 5. 2 wt%過硫酸カ リウム水溶液 7. 9 g、 エポキシ系二官能性架橋剤 〔エチレングリ コールジグリ シ ジルエーテル, 長瀬化成工業 (株) 製、 商品名 「デナコ一 ル E X 8 1 0」 〕 0. 0 5 l gを加えて均一溶液とし、 モ ノマー/開始剤水溶液を得た。 得られたモノマー Z開始剤 水溶液を用いて、 一括重合法により重合を行った。
即ち、 別に、 還流冷却管、 滴下漏斗、 撹拌棒、 及び窒素 導入管を備えた 1 0 0 0 mlのフラスコにシクロへキサン 4 0 0 mlを取り、 分散剤として H L B 1 5. 0のポリオキシ エチレンソルビタ ンモノォレー ト 〔E O : 2 0モル付加体、 花王 (株) 製, 「レオ ド一ル TW_ 0 1 2 0 j 〕 5. l g を加えて攪拌 ( 3 5 0 r p m) ' 分散させ、 フラスコを窒 素置換した。 これに前述のモノマー Z開始剤水溶液を滴下 し、 懸濁せしめた。 次いで、 再び系内を十分に置換した後、 昇温を行い、 浴温を 5 5〜 6 0 °Cに保持して重合を行った。 昇温して数分後、 重合が激しく開始し、 一瞬にして系内 に数ミ リ〜数センチの塊状物が生成し、 攪拌ができなくな つたため、 その時点で重合を中断した。

産業上の利用可能性
本発明の不定形重合体粒子の製造方法によれば、 平均粒 径が大きく、 粒径 1 0 0 m以下の微粉末状の粒子が極め て少なく、 見掛け比重が小さ く、 初期吸水速度等の吸水性、 通気性、 通液性に優れ、 且つ吸水後のゲル強度にも優れる 吸水性樹脂として有用な不定形重合体粒子を、 簡便な操作 で、 生産性に優れ、 且つ量産化可能に製造することができ る o
従って、 本発明の製造方法によって得られる不定形重合 体は、 特に吸水性が良いので人体に接するような衛生材料、 例えば、 生理用ナプキン、 紙おむつ、 成人用シーツ、 タン ボン、 衛生綿等に用いられる吸水性ポリマーとして有用で ある。 また、 長時間使用してもゲル構造が劣化し難く、 更 には弾力性に富むので、 種々の園芸用の保水剤、 土壌建築 用の止水剤として使用可能であり、 また形状、 弾力性、 吸 水性、 通気性の重要視される化粧品への応用も期待できる。

Claims

請 求 の 範 囲
1 . 水溶性重合性モノマーの水溶液と水溶性ラジカル重 合開始剤と重合に不活性な疎水性有機溶媒とを用いて、 上 記疎水性有機溶媒中で上記水溶性重合性モノ マーの逆相懸 濁重合を行うに際し、
分散剤として、 H L Bが 1 3以上の界面活性剤 (へミア セタール結合の水素原子が疎水性基で置換された構造を有 するグリ コシ ド化合物、 及びグルコンァミ ド化合物を除 く) を存在させ、 且つ
上記の水溶性重合性モノマーの水溶液を還流条件下の上 記疎水性有機溶媒中に逐次供給して、 逆相懸濁重合を行う ことを特徴とする不定形重合体粒子の製造方法。
2 . 上記界面活性剤が、 H L B 1 3〜 1 8のポリオキシ アルキレンソルビ夕ン脂肪酸エステルまたはポリオキシァ ルキレンソルビトール脂肪酸エステルである請求項 1記載 の不定形重合体粒子の製造方法。
3 . 上記界面活性剤が、 H L B 1 6〜 1 8 のシ ョ糖脂肪 酸エステルであることを特徴とする請求項 1記載の不定形 重合体粒子の製造方法。
4 . 上記界面活性剤が、 H L B 1 3〜 1 8のポリオキシ アルキレングリセリ ン脂肪酸エステルまたはボリ グリセリ ン脂肪酸エステルであることを特徴とする請求項 1記載の 不定形重合体粒子の製造方法。
5. 前記水溶性重合性モノマーが、 ォレフィ ン系不飽和 カルボン酸又はそのアルカ リ塩である請求項 1 〜 4の何れ かに記載の不定形重合体粒子の製造方法。
