Definitions
- the invention relates to a method according to the preamble of claim 1.
- redundancy structures can be provided for the peripheral line assemblies belonging to it. Examples of this are the "1 + 1" or the “1: N” line module redundancy, as described in "IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications” VOL. 15, N.5, June 1997, pages 795 to 806. With a "1 + 1" redundancy structure, two line modules are operated in parallel in order to redundantly transmit message signal streams. However, only one of these redundant message signal streams is taken into account for further processing.
- N redundancy which contains all information about current states and events within a redundancy group. This means that this facility is able to decide on necessary replacement circuit measures.
- This higher-level facility is usually the higher-level maintenance facility for the peripheral assemblies.
- This device must also be able to perform necessary equivalent circuits in the shortest possible time ( ⁇ 1 s) or to control interference-free downshifts and 2 to be checked so that the downtime or data loss of the affected lines is minimized.
- the failure of a line card is pe ⁇ pheren in this prior Tech ⁇ nik by the respectively adjacent peripheral module ER- known.
- FIG. 2 The configuration used in the prior art is shown in FIG. 2 for better understanding. Accordingly, a "1: N" line module redundancy is used.
- the peripheral line assemblies BGi, BG-> are shown, which are sometimes assigned to one another in pairs. Both modules have connections V] to one another via which mutual monitoring is carried out.
- the peripheral line assemblies BG ... BG r are assigned internal and external interfaces. The internal interfaces serve as an interface to the AMX modules of the ATM switching matrix, while the external interfaces represent interfaces to the connecting lines connected here to the further switching matrix devices.
- the modules BG ... BG r also have connections V ⁇ to the modules AMX of the ATM switching matrix, only the connection V ⁇ of the modules BGi to the modules AMX being shown here. All modules BG ⁇ ... BG r as well as the assigned internal and external interfaces are monitored and controlled by a higher-level MPSA device.
- a first step an attempt is made to address the failed device BGi directly.
- the relevant peripheral assembly BG ⁇ has a total failure, this is done by the higher-level facility 3 MPSA only recognized after several monitoring processes. Only then can it be safely assumed that the device BG: can no longer be addressed and is therefore no longer accessible.
- a diagnosis of the relevant peripheral module is then initiated to verify the error.
- the affected peripheral module is configured only in advance of this diagnosis, with which the actual equivalent circuit is only carried out. For this purpose, the internal and external interfaces have to be switched over and the spare switch module has to be activated accordingly.
- the higher-level facility MPSA is mainly concerned with equivalent switching measures, which results in a loss of dynamic of the system. Furthermore, a number of other modules are integrated in the switching process, which are actually not involved in the switching process itself. Here, more valuable time is lost. Ultimately, such a configuration contradicts the principle of decentralized maintenance, where the equivalent circuit is the task of the peripheral devices themselves.
- the invention has for its object to show a way how equivalent circuits for peripheral assemblies can be carried out faster and more efficiently without restricting the dynamics of the system.
- An advantage of the invention is in particular that the equivalent switching or downshifting of a defective module is carried out by the peripheral modules even under the control of the spare switching module independently of a higher-level device.
- the basic principles of 1 + 1 module redundancy are applied.
- the basic processes of 1 + 1 module redundancy are largely adopted for 1: N redundancy.
- This has the advantage that synergies are used and performance features that are already available for 1 + 1 redundancy can also be used for 1: N redundancy.
- An example of this is the smooth switchover between individual peripheral modules and the spare switch module in both directions without interrupting the connection, with the saving of charge data.
- the inventive step lies in the fact that the principles of decentralized maintenance are consistently implemented for 1: N redundancy with the help of the replacement switch module, the switchover times are considerably improved and the quality of the redundancy is improved.
- peripheral line assemblies BG ⁇ ..BG n are provided, but only 5 2 of these peripheral line assemblies BGi, BG ; are shown. Both modules are each arranged in pairs facing each ⁇ and Vi, the compounds with one another, via which a gegen crystalige monitoring is performed. Furthermore, the peripheral line assemblies BG ⁇ ... BG n internal and external interfaces are assigned. The internal interfaces serve as an interface to the AMX modules of the ATM switching matrix, while the external interfaces represent interfaces to the connecting lines connected here to the other switching devices.
- BG n also have connections V 2 to the assemblies AMX of the ATM switching matrix, only the connection V 2 of the assemblies BGi to the assemblies AMX being shown here. All modules BG ⁇ ... BG n as well as the assigned internal and external interfaces are monitored and controlled by a higher-level MPSA.
- N redundancy group there is also a BG E replacement switch module, which should replace this failed module in the event of a module failure.
- switches LPS and SB are provided, the resp.
- a prerequisite for the method according to the invention is that connections are provided between the equivalent switch assembly BG E and all peripheral line assemblies, so that there is a constant communication relationship.
- the BG E equivalent switch module must be able to switch the internal interfaces from a peripheral line module to the BG E equivalent switch module.
- the protection switching module BG in E must be able to switch the external interfaces of a peripheral line assemblies for protection switching module BG E.
- each peripheral line assembly must recognize the failure of its neighboring peripheral line assembly in order to be able to report a corresponding message to the BG E replacement switch assembly. 6 In the following it is assumed that one of the peripheral line assemblies fails. This should be the BG assembly.
- the failure is the group of paired construction ⁇ BG; determined via the connecting line Vj.
- the BG 2 module transmits a corresponding message M E to the BG E equivalent switching module.
- the higher-level device MPSA is also informed of the failure by a message M A , so that a current image of the system configuration is still stored here.
- the failure of the peripheral line module BGi is still recognized by the module AMX, which as part of the switching matrix has a connection V 2 to the failed peripheral line module BGi.
- the higher-level facility MPSA is informed of the failure by a message M PS .
- the BG E equivalent switching module carries out the equivalent switching.
- the internal interfaces are switched. This is done by actuating a switch LPS, which effects a switching process Si.
- the external interfaces are then switched over by activating a switch SB which effects a switching process S : . Only then is the BG E equivalent switching module activated, which now has the function of the failed BG : module and which treats ATM message cell streams routed via it before the failure.
