Definitions
- the present invention refers to the technical field concerning the medical devices used in the first aid emergency situations for immobilising and carrying generally traumatised patients.
- this invention refers to a so-called "scoop stretcher" and to the method for its realisation.
- the scoop stretchers are special types of stretchers with which it is possible to "pickup" a patient from the ground avoiding the risk of causing him more serious trauma.
- the known scoop stretchers are essentially constituted by two opposite halves, detachably connectable close to the ends by means of articulated hook devices.
- Each of these half-stretchers comprises an upper portion and a lower portion with reference to the patient body to be supported.
- the upper portion includes a metallic tubular member mounting scoop shaped supporting panels, fit to pick up and support the traumatised patient in correspondence of his head and upper body.
- the lower portion includes a tubular member with an end sliding into the metallic tubular member of the upper portion and to which is fixed a support scoop shaped panel fit to support the patient legs.
- connection means complementarily connectable to each other and designed to be connected for establishing the linkage between the two halves and thus forming the scoop stretcher.
- the stretcher surface defined by the picking and supporting panels, is concave in such a way to keep the patient inside and to reduce his lateral movements.
- Such stretcher has an adjustable length so as to be adapted to the patient height. Furthermore, the lower portion can be folded onto the upper portion by means of foldable hinge elements fixed to the sliding end of the tubular members of the lower portion, in order to decrease the stretcher dimension when not in use.
- a drawback of such stretchers is that they are made of metal, especially aluminium, having the main feature of being light but not always resistant enough in order to support different stresses and shocks supported by a stretcher that can consequentially be deformed.
- such stretcher may have several panels divided from each other by empty space for sustaining the patient so using less material and without making heavy too much the stretcher: in this solution the patient dresses could get caught.
- tubular members and the supporting panels of the stretcher are generally made of metal, preferably aluminium, and they need to be assembled and/or riveted, sometimes manually, so increasing the stretcher production costs.
- the main object of the present invention is to propose a light stretcher fit to support almost completely the patient body parts.
- Another object is to propose a method for easily carrying out a scoop stretcher.
- Another object is to propose a method of carrying out a scoop stretcher in which only two elements for each opposite halves are moulded and assembled together.
- Still another object is to propose a compact stretcher with dirty, dust and organic liquid infiltration reduction and therefore allowing a simple cleaning and sterilisation of the stretcher after every use.
- figure 1 shows a plan and top view of the stretcher object of the invention
- figure 2 shows a side view of the stretcher in figure 1
- figure 3 shows a section view along the line III-III of the lower portion of the stretcher in figure 1
- figure 4 shows a section view along the line IV-IV of the upper portion of the stretcher in figure 1
- figure 5 shows a section view along the line V-V of the upper portion of the stretcher in figure 1
- figure 6 shows an enlarged view of one end of the stretcher in figure 1
- figure 7 shows a section view along the line VII- VII of the detail in figure 6.
- the numeral 10 indicates the scoop stretcher, consisting of two opposite halves or half-stretchers, first 20 and second 30.
- the half-stretchers 20, 30 consist of an upper part, respectively 20s and 30s, and a lower part, respectively 20i and 30i.
- the upper parts 20s, 30s have an upper tubular element, respectively 2s and 3s, and an upper support scoop shaped element, respectively 4 and 5, making a single block with related upper tubular element 2s, 3s including this latter.
- Each upper support element 4, 5 is internally provided with a hollow bar, respectively 6 and 7.
- the upper tubular elements 2s, 3s have an end, respectively 14s and 15s, close to an upper sleeve, respectively 12s and 13s, making a single block with the related support element, respectively 4 and 5, while the other ends extend up to the end portion of the related support elements 4, 5 and help to support, in co-operation with these latter, locking and adjusting means 22, 23 of the length of the stretcher 10.
- each of lower part 20i and 30i has a lower tubular element, respectively 2i and 3i, and a lower support scoop shaped element, respectively 8 and 9, in single block with the related tubular element 2i, 3i and partially including this latter.
- the tubular elements 2i, 3i are telescopically sliding inside the respective hollow bar 6, 7 and they have each other end, respectively 14i and 15i, located close to a sleeve, respectively 12i and 13i, in single block with related support element 8, 9.
- the other ends of the sleeves 12i, 13i are fastened to the ends, respectively 18 and 19, of a hook device li which allows to hook detachably the lower parts 20i and 30i of the half-stretchers 20 and 30 so as to make the lower part 50 of the stretcher 10.
- hinge elements respectively 52, 53, that allow the folding up of the lower portion 50 onto the upper portion 40 of the stretcher 10, or vice versa, in correspondence of the pulling out of said lower tubular elements 2i and 3i from the related hollow bars 6 and 7.
- Each stop mean 22, 23 has a pivot 45 insertable into related hole made on the external part of each tubular element 2i, 3i and comprises a crossing hole for these latter with such a diameter to allow the pulling out of the hinge elements 52, 53 but not the pulling out of tubular 2i , 3i ends.
- Each support element 4 and 5, 8 and 9 further comprises a set of slots 25, respectively three in the upper support elements and one in the lower support elements, fit for inserting the immobilisation belts for the patient to the stretcher or for allowing the operators to hold the stretcher laterally.
- Each support element 4 and 5, 8 and 9 further comprises an opening 28 and 29, 32 and 33, made in correspondence of said sleeve 12s and 13s, 12i and 13i, fit for easily holding the stretcher 10.
- the openings 28 and 29 of the upper part of the stretcher also allow the passage of the immobilisation belts for the patient head.
- each upper support element 4, 5 and of each related tubular element 2s, 3s there is furthermore a hole 47 for inserting the immobilisation belt of the patient head laying on the stretcher 10.
- a recess 46 close to the head area of the support elements.
- each hook means upper Is and lower li
- a set of pins 48 included in the related support element 4 and 5, 8 and 9, is fixed to the hook means, upper Is and lower li.
- the upper support elements 4 and 5 have a depression 54 in correspondence of the area between the recess 46 and the related sleeve 12s, 13s. Such a depression 54 allows an optimal displacement of the lower portion 50 of the stretcher 10 in the folding phase thereof and in particular of the sleeves 12i, 13i, so getting a minimum size condition for the folded stretcher.
- the support elements, upper 4, 5 and lower 8, 9 are made of plastics, preferably polyethylene, while the tubular elements 2s and 3s, 2i and 3i and/or the hollow bars 6, 7 are made of metal, preferably aluminium, or plastics, preferably polyethylene or composite material.
- the material for making the stretcher 10 can be, advantageously, radio-transparent.
- the method for carrying out the stretcher 10 includes the following main phases: - putting into a two half-shells mould, near the middle and upper peripheral area, of the free ends 16 and 17, 18 and 19 of the hook means Is or li; - putting into the mould, near the longitudinal edges, the tubular elements, upper
- the method provides that the hollow bars 6,7 are also inserted in the mould, almost parallel to the upper tubular elements 2s, 3s.
- the method for carrying out the stretcher 10 provides that both the upper portion 40 and the lower portion 50 of the stretcher are made of plastic material, by means of a blow molding operation.
- the hook device Is inside the mould designed for carrying out the upper portion 40 is inserted the hook device Is in a hooked condition A, in which the connection elements of the hook device Is are connected each other. Furthermore, the tubular elements 2s and 3s and the hollow bars 6 and 7 are inserted therein.
- the blow molding is made to carry out the upper portion 40 by forming the support elements 4 and 5, which are a single block with the related tubular elements 2s, 3s and the related hollow bars 6, 7.
- the half-shells of the mould are formed in such a way to make the openings 28, 29, 32 and 33 and the set of the slots 25 as well as the hole 47 and the recess 46.
- the lower portion 50 is similarly made, with the difference that in related mould the hollow bars 6 and 7 are not put inside.
- the stretcher 10 is completed by inserting the tubular elements 2i, 3i of the lower portion 50 into the respective hollow bars 6, 7 of the upper portion 40.
