Abstract

L'invention concerne un indicateur et un procédé servant à indiquer l'expiration de la vie utile prédéterminée d'un filtre à eau, au moyen d'un changement de couleurs simple mais très efficace. L'eau migre dans un mécanisme de changement de couleurs doté d'un milieu poreux et provoque la réaction de premier et second réactifs, ce qui se solde par un changement de couleurs. Le système de réaction entre les réactifs peut être sélectionné parmi le groupe reposant essentiellement sur la chélation d'un ion métallique par un agent chélateur, sur la réaction d'un acide/d'une base avec un indicateur de pH, sur la réaction d'un électrodonneur/d'un électroaccepteur avec un indicateur d'oxydoréduction, et sur une réaction enzymatique entre un enzyme et un substrat. Ledit mécanisme de changement de couleurs affiche une avance graduelle du changement de couleur au cours du temps, et peut comporter une échelle afin d'afficher le temps écoulé. On peut utiliser un masque contenant des indices d'échelle pour rendre compte de la progression de la diffusion en matière de durée de vie utile prédéterminée du filtre.
