Abstract

The present invention is a polymer alkaline ion electrochemical cell with improved thermal and chemical stability and a method for making the same. The cell of the invention comprises a positive collector, a negative collector, a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator and an electrolyte, said separator comprising a binder and filler, each of said electrodes comprising a binder, and is characterized in that at least one of said binders is a VDF/HFP copolymer which has been made insoluble in said electrolyte by a heat treatment. In a preferred embodiment, said copolymer is made insoluble by cross-linking.
