Abstract

Verfahren zur Herstellung neuer, mehrfach DOPO-haltiger, reaktiver, organischer Verbindungen, die gegenüber bisher bekannten, vergleichbaren DOPO (9,10-Dihydro-9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthren-10-oxid) -Addukten einen höheren Phosphorgehalt aufweisen, sowie deren Verwendung zur Flammschutzausrustung thermoplastischer Polymerer, wie beispielsweise Polyester und Polyamide, wobei mit geringeren Zusatzmengen als bisher üblich der gleiche Flammschutzeffekt erreicht wird und somit eine geringere Beeinflussung der physikalischen, speziell textilphysikalischen Eigenschaften der Polymere möglich ist. Die Bildung der mehrfach DOPO-haltigen Addukte erfolgt durch Umsetzung von DOPO mit reaktive Gruppen tragenden Acetylenen in Gegenwart eines Katalysators.

Verfahren zur Herstellung mehrfach DOPO-haltiger organischer Verbindungen und ihre Verwendung
[Beschreibung]
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung neuer, mehrfach DOPO-haltiger, reaktiver, organischer Verbindungen, die gegenüber bisher bekannten, vergleichbaren DOPO-Addukten einen höheren Phosphorgehalt aufweisen, sowie deren Verwendung zur Flammschutzausrüstung thermoplastischer Polymerer, vorzugsweise Polyester und Polyamide, wobei mit geringeren 'Zusatzmengen als bisher üblich der gleiche Flammschutzeffekt erreicht wird und somit eine geringere Beeinflussung der physikalischen, speziell' textilphysikalischen Eigenschaften der Polymere möglich ist. Die Bildung der mehrfach DOPO- haltigen Addukte erfolgt durch Umsetzung von DOPO mit reaktive bzw. Ester-Gruppen tragenden Acetylenen.
[Stand der Technik]
Aus der Literatur ist die Herstellung von 9, 10-Dihydro-9-oxa- 10-phospha-phenanthren-10-oxid (in der Erfindungsschrift als DOPO bezeichnet) und einer Reihe seiner Derivate bekannt. So beschreibt SAITO in der DOS 20 34 887 die Herstellung von DOPO und verschiedener DOPO-Derivate. Die DE 26 46 218 behandelt die Umsetzung von DOPO mit Itaconsäure und Itaconsäu- reanhydrid sowie weiterer Abkömmlinge dieser Addukte. ENDO et al. stellen dabei fest, daß Addukte des DOPO mit Maleinsäure und Maleinsäureanhydrid sowie daraus herstellbarer Ester auf Grund eines unzureichenden Veresterungsgrades der Carbo- xylgruppen der Addukte für Copolymerisationen ungeeignet sind. Auch DIETRICH et al. beschränken sich in der DE 195 22 876 auf die Herstellung unter anderem von DOPO bzw. DOPO- Derivaten und deren Umsetzungsprodukten mit Itaconsäure oder Itaconsäureverbindungen sowie deren Verwendung zum Flammschutz von Polyesterfasern. DOPO-Derivate, die speziell durch Umsetzung mit Epichlorhydrin erhalten werden, beschreiben UTZ und SPRENGER in dem EP 0 806 429. Diese Produkte sollen zum Einbau in Epoxidharze verwendet werden. Die Flammschutzausrüstung von Epoxidharzen ist auch Inhalt der Arbeit von LIN, U und WANG (J. Appl. Polym. Sei. 78., 2000, S. 228-235). Sie verwenden zur Herstellung der Epoxidharze DOPO-Addukte mit Maleinsäure und mit Itaconsäure und setzen diese mit Diglyci- dyl oder Bis.phenol A um. Im EP 1 090 922 behandeln TAKEUCHI et al. die Herstellung von DOPO aus o-Phenylphenol und von DOPO-Derivaten mit α, ß-ungesättigten Carbonsäuren sowie deren Estern, Diolen u. a., die immer zusammen mit Verbindungen zweiwertiger Metalle, vorzugsweise Zink, zum Einbau in Polyester verwendet werden. Damit soll die Oxidation der Antimon- Katalysatoren bei der Herstellung flammgeschützter Polyester unterdrückt werden.
Allen diesen genannten Verfahren zur Herstellung von DOPO- Derivaten ist gemeinsam, daß sie bei der Bildung von Addukten des DOPO ausschließlich olefinisch ungesättigte Verbindungen als Reaktionspartner einsetzen. Damit ist die Anzahl der DOPO-Moleküle, die pro Doppelbindung und damit im allgemeinen pro Olefinmolekül addiert werden können, auf eines beschränkt. Ausnahmen wären Di- oder Polyene mit entsprechend längeren Kohlenstoffketten, die aber aus keinen der Schutzrechte bzw. Literaturstellen bekannt sind. Daraus ergibt sich als nachteilige Folge, daß der Phosphorgehalt dieser organischen Phosphorverbindungen eine obere Grenze hat, so daß, um einen bestimmten Flammschutzeffekt beim Einbau dieser Flammschutzmittel in Polymere zu erreichen, eine relativ hohe Mindestmenge an Flammschutzmittel als Comonomeres notwendig ist. Das wiederum hat einen ungünstigen Einfluß auf die Eigenschaften der gebildeten Copolymere zur Folge.
[Aufgabe der Erfindung] Ziel der Erfindung ist es daher, ein Verfahren zur Herstellung mehrfach DOPO-haltiger, reaktiver organischer Verbindungen mit einem höheren als bisher auf Basis von DOPO-Derivaten erreichbaren Phosphorgehalt zu entwickeln, die geeignet sind als Comonomere zur Flammschutzausrüstung von thermoplasti- sehen Polymeren, wie zum Beispiel Polyestern und Polyamiden, zu dienen.
Dieses Ziel wird überraschenderweise und erfindungsgemäß dadurch erreicht, daß diese durch Addition von 9, 10-Dihydro- 9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthren-10-oxid (DOPO) an reaktive Gruppen tragende, acetylenisch ungesättigte Verbindungen in Gegenwart eines Katalysators, der für die Addition an Dreifachbindungen geeignet ist, erhalten werden. Für die Addition an Dreifachbindungen üblichen Katalysatoren können sein Quecksilber- oder Kupfersalze oder Amine, wie Triethylamin oder von für diesen Reaktionstyp nicht charakteristischen Katalysatoren, wie beispielsweise Aluminiumtriisopropylat . Bei Anwendung eines entsprechenden Mol-Verhältnisses von DOPO zur acetylenisch ungesättigten Verbindung wie 1,5/1 bis 3/1, bevorzugt 1,9/1 bis 2,1/1, werden unter Aufgabe der C≡C- Dreifachbindung pro Mol der acetylenisch ungesättigten Verbindung zwei Mol DOPO addiert. Dabei entsteht ein Addukt von folgender allgemeiner Struktur:

wobei R für Carboxyl-, Carboxyalkyl-, Carboxyaryl-, Hydroxy- alkyl-, Alkoxyalkyl-, Aroxyalkyl-, Hydroxyaryl-, Alkoxyaryl-, Aroxyaryl- oder analoge Gruppen und für gleiche oder unter- schiedliche Substituenten stehen kann.
Die Additionsreaktion wird bevorzugt in Lösung durchgeführt. Als Lösungsmittel eignen sich besonders solche, die wohl" in der Lage sind, die Ausgangsprodukte, nicht aber das Reakti- onsprodukt zu lösen. Ein derartiges Lösungsmittel ist zum Beispiel 1,4-Dioxan.
Laut Literatur (Organikum, 4. Auflage, VEB Deutscher Verlag der Wissenschaften Berlin 1964, S. 223) verläuft die e- lektrophile Addition von H-aciden Verbindungen an Acetylene nur in Gegenwart spezieller Katalysatoren wie Quecksilberund Kupfersalzen, da die Acetylenbindung gegenüber e- lektrophilen Reagenzien relativ wenig reaktionsfähig ist. Laut Houben-Weyl (Methoden der organischen Chemie, 4. Aufla- ge, Georg Thieme Verlag Stuttgart, 1977, Band 5/2a, S. 725) ist für die nucleophile Addition von Phosphinen an C≡C- Dreifachbindungen die Gegenwart von Aminen als Katalysatoren notwendig. Es wurde nun erfindungsgemäß gefunden, daß die Additionsreaktion von DOPO an bestimmte Acetylene auch durch Verbindungen wie Aluminiumtriisopropylat katalysiert werden kann. Für die Umsetzung der phosphororganischen Verbindung DOPO mit der acetylenisch ungesättigten Verbindung werden als Katalysator Quecksilber- oder Kupfersalze oder A ine oder bevorzugt Aluminiumtriisopropylat eingesetzt. Diese Variante einer Umsetzung von DOPO an ungesättigte Verbindungen ist bisher nicht bekannt.
Als acetylenisch ungesättigte Verbindungen werden beispiels- weise Substanzen wie 2-Butin-l, 4-dioldiacetat, 2-Butin-l, - diol, 3-Hexin-2, 5-diol, 2, 4-Hexadiin-l, 6-diol und deren Ester sowie vorzugsweise Acetylendicarbonsäure und Acetylendicarbonsäurediester verwendet.
Die erhaltenen DOPO-Addukte mit Phosphorgehalten bis zu
12,7 % werden als Comonomere bei der Polyesterkondensation in Mengen von 1 bis 15 % eingesetzt. DOPO-Addukte mit Hydroxyl- Endgruppen bedürfen dabei nicht zwingend einer weiteren Derivatisierung. DOPO-Addukte der Acetylendicarbonsäure bzw. der Acetylendicarbonsäurediester werden vor ihrem Einsatz als Comonomere günstigerweise in Diglykolester umgewandelt. Die DOPO/Acetyleήdicarbonsäure-Addukte, weniger ihre Derivate, zeigen bei Temperaturen von ca. 200 °C und höher eine Decarboxylierung. Es hat sich als vorteilhaft erwiesen, die DOPO-Addukte einem bereits vorkondensierten Polykondensati- onsansatz zuzudosieren. Als Katalysatoren für die Polyester- Polykondensation werden die aus dem Stand der Technik bekannten Produkte, wie z. B. Antimontrioxid, Antimonacetat oder Tetra-n-butylorthotitanat verwendet .
Um die Additionsverbindungen in eine als Comonomere besonders für Copolyamide geeignete Form zu bringen, sind weitere Derivatisierungen wie die Bildung von Carbonsäureaminoamiden bzw. Carbonsäure/Amin-Salzen angebracht. Hierzu werden die DOPO/Dicarbonsäure-Addukte mit der entsprechenden equimolaren Menge eines Diamins ähnlich der Bildung von AH-Salz umgesetzt und als Comonomere bei der Herstellung von Polyamiden verwendet. Die Zusatzmenge richtet sich nach dem im Copolyamid angestrebten Phosphorgehalt. Sie bewegt sich zwischen 3 und 20 %, bevorzugt zwischen 5 und 15 %. Neben den D0- PO/Acetylendicarbonsäure-Addukten eignen sich in gleicher Weise prinzipiell auch DOPO/Maleinsäure-Addukte .
[Beispiele]
Beispiel 1:
108 g DOPO und 1 g Aluminiumtriisopropylat werden bei ca. 30 °C in 700 ml Dioxan gelöst. In die klare Lösung wird eine Lösung von 22,8 g Acetylendicarbonsäure in 80 ml Dioxan und 40 ml Diethylether, die unter leichtem Erwärmen hergestellt wurde, unter Rühren eingetropft. Nach dem Ende der Zugabe wird die Temperatur auf 50 - 60 °C erhöht. Die Behandlung wird über ca. 20 Stunden fortgeführt. Der sich allmählich bildende Niederschlag wird durch Filtration von der überstehenden Lösung abgetrennt. Nach dem Entfernen der Lösungsmittelreste wird ein weißes, pulvriges Produkt in einer Ausbeute, bezogen auf die eingesetzte Acetylendicarbonsäure, von 94,5 % erhalten. Das Produkt (Summenformel: C28H20O8P2) weist einen Phosphor-gehalt von 10,9 % auf (theoretischer Wert: 11,3 %). Der Carboxylgruppengehalt beträgt 2777 μequ/g. Das Produkt zeigt einen Schmelzpunkt von 199 °C, wobei unmittelbar nach dem Schmelzprozeß eine Decarboxylierung stattfindet.
Beispiel 2:
162 g DOPO und 1,2 g Quecksilber (II) sulfat werden bei ca. 30 °C in 600 ml Dioxan gelöst. In die leicht milchige Lösung DOPO/Dicarbonsäure-Addukte mit der entsprechenden equimolaren Menge eines Diamins ähnlich der Bildung von AH-Salz umgesetzt und als Comonomere bei der Herstellung von Polyamiden verwendet. Die Zusatzmenge richtet sich nach dem im Copolyamid angestrebten Phosphorgehalt. Sie bewegt sich zwischen 3 und 20 %, bevorzugt zwischen 5 und 15 %. Neben den DO- PO/Acetylendicarbonsäure-Addukten eignen sich in gleicher Weise prinzipiell auch DOPO/Maleinsäure-Addukte.

Beispiel 2:
162 g DOPO und 1,2 g Quecksilber (II) sulfat werden bei ca. 30 °C in 600 ml Dioxan gelöst. In die leicht milchige Lösung wird eine Lösung von 21,5 g 2-Butin-l, -diol in 100 ml Dioxan unter Rühren eingetropft. Nach dem Ende der Zugabe wird die Temperatur auf 50 - 60 °C erhöht. Die Behandlung wird über ca. 20 Stunden fortgeführt. Nach der destillativen Entfernung des Lösungsmittels und des nicht umgesetzten Butindiols wird ein gelbliches Produkt erhalten. Das Produkt (Summenformel: C28H2..O6P2) weist nach Extraktion mit Diisopropylether einen Phosphorgehalt von 11,5 % auf (theoretischer Wert: 11,95 %) . Das Produkt zeigt einen Schmelzpunkt von 105 °C.
Beispiel 3:
86,4 g DOPO und 1,0 g Triethylamin werden bei ca. 30 °C in 700 ml Dioxan gelöst. In die klare Lösung wird eine Lösung von 21,3 g Acetylendicarbonsäuredimethylester in 100 ml Dioxan unter Rühren eingetropft. Nach dem Ende der Zugabe wird die Temperatur allmählich auf 96 - 98 °C erhöht. Die Umsetzung wird über ca. 10 Stunden fortgeführt. Der sich bildende Niederschlag wird nach Stehen über Nacht durch Filtration von der überstehenden Lösung abgetrennt. Nach dem
Entfernen der Lösungsmittelreste wird ein weißes Produkt in einer Ausbeute, bezogen auf den eingesetzten Acetylendicar- bonsäuredimethylester, von 87,9 % erhalten. Das Produkt
(Summenformel: C3oH24θ8P2) weist einen Phosphorgehalt von 10,7 % auf (theoretischer Wert: 10,79 %) . Das Produkt zeigt einen Schmelzpunkt von 281,6 °C (DSC). Eine Decarboxylierung in der Form, wie sie beim DOPO/Acetylendicarbonsäure-Addukt aus Beispiel 1 festgestellt wurde, tritt hierbei nicht auf.
Beispiel 4:
54,6 g des DOPO/Acetylendicarbonsäure-Adduktes aus Beispiel 1 werden gemeinsam mit 1 g p-Toluolsulfonsäure und 60 g Ethy- lenglykol in 100 ml Dioxan suspendiert. Das Gemisch wird 16
7 Stunden bei 100 °C behandelt. Der sich absetzende, weiße Niederschlag wird durch Filtration von der überstehenden Lösung abgetrennt. Reste von Lösungsmittel und Ethylenglykol werden durch Vakuumdestillation entfernt. Das weiße, pulvrige Produkt wird in einer Ausbeute, bezogen auf das eingesetzte DOPO/Acetylendicarbonsäure-Addukt, von 68,5 % erhalten. Das Produkt (Summenformel: C32H28OιoP2) ist als DOPO/Acetylen- dicarbonsäurediglykolester-Addukt anzusprechen und weist einen Phosphorgehalt von 10,1 % auf (theoretischer Wert: 9,8 %) .
Beispiel 5:
54,6 g DOPO/Acetylendicarbonsäure-Addukt aus Beispiel 1 werden in 260 ml frisch destilliertem Dimethylacetamid unter Erwärmen gelöst. Zu dieser Lösung werden 23,2 g einer 50 %igen Lösung von 1, 6-Diaminohexan in Dimethylacetamid zugetropft. Etwa 30 Minuten nach Ende der Zugabe wird die Heizquelle entfernt. Beim Abkühlen der Reaktionsmischung auf Zimmertemperatur fällt ein weißer Niederschlag aus. .Dieser wird durch Filtration abgetrennt, mit Dimethylacetamid und anschließend mit Ethanol gewaschen. Das Produkt wird danach bei 80 °C im Vakuumtrockenschrank getrocknet.
Beispiel 6:
96,6 g Terephthalsäurediglykolester werden mit 0,1 g Tetra-n- butylorthotitanat gemischt und unter leichter Stickstoffzufuhr in ein Bad von 200 °C eingesetzt. Die Badtemperatur wird innerhalb von 60 Minuten auf 270 °C erhöht. Unter ständigem Rühren beginnt die Destillation des Ethylenglykols, was ein sicheres Zeichen für das Einsetzen der Kondensation ist. Die Destillation wird durch Anlegen eines leichten Vakuums unterstützt. Nachdem ca. 40 % des theoretisch zu erwartenden
8 Ethylenglykols abdestilliert sind, werden unter intensivem Rühren 12,7 g eines DOPO/Acetylendicarbonsäurediglykolester- Adduktes zugesetzt. Die Ethylenglykol-Destillation und damit die Polykondensation wird unter Vakuum fortgeführt. Nach ca. 120 Minuten wird bei einem Vakuum < 1 mbar die Temperatur auf 280 °C erhöht. Die Polykondensation wird unter diesen Bedingungen noch ca. 30 Minuten fortgesetzt. Dann wird die sehr viskose Schmelze ausgegossen. Der entstandene modifizierte Polyester schmilzt bei 229-231 °C. Die relative Lösungsvisko- sität wurde zu 1,26 bestimmt. Das Produkt zeigt einen Carbo- xylgruppengehalt von 63 μequ/g und einen Phosphorgehalt von 1,58 -s .
Beispiel 7 :
84 g ε-Caprolactam werden mit 16 g des Produktes aus Beispiel 5 sowie 1 ml Wasser gemischt und gründlich mit Stickstoff gespült. Das Gefäß mit der Reaktionsmischung wird in ein Bad mit einer Temperatur von 200 °C gesetzt. Nach dem Aufschmel- zen der Mischung wird diese intensiv gerührt. Die Temperatur wird allmählich auf 260 °C erhöht und die Polymerisation über ca.. 14 Stunden bei ständiger geringer Stickstoffzufuhr fortgeführt. Es entsteht ein Copolyamid mit einer relativen Lösungsviskosität von 1,45. Nach einer Wasserextraktion unter Rückfluß wird ein Copolyamid mit einer geringfügig auf 1,47 erhöhten Lösungsviskosität erhalten. Der Carboxylgruppenge- halt beträgt 64,5 μequ/g, der Aminogruppengehalt 50,2 μequ/g. Das Produkt weist einen Phosphorgehalt von 1,5 % auf gegenüber einem Wert vor der Extraktion von 1,38 %. Es schmilzt bei 214 °C. Beispiel 8:
96,6 g Terephthalsäurediglykolester werden mit 10,4 g des DOPO/Butindiol-Adduktes aus Beispiel 2 und 0,1 g Tetra-n- butylorthotitanat gemischt und unter leichter Stickstoffzufuhr in ein Bad von 200 °C eingesetzt. Die Badtemperatur wird innerhalb von 60 Minuten auf 270 °C erhöht. Unter ständigem Rühren wird nun Ethylenglykol abdestilliert. Die Destillation wird durch Anlegen eines leichten Vakuums unterstützt. Die Polykondensation wird unter Vakuum, das allmählich bis auf ca. lmbar erhöht wird, fortgeführt. Nach ca. 120 Minuten wird bei einem Vakuum < 1 mbar die Temperatur auf 280 °C erhöht. Die Polykondensation wird unter diesen Bedingungen noch ca. 30 Minuten fortgesetzt. Dann wird die sehr viskose Schmelze ausgegossen. Der entstandene modifizierte Polyester schmilzt bei 232-234 °C. Die relative Lösungsviskosität wurde zu 1,22 bestimmt. Das Produkt zeigt einen Phosphorgehalt von 1,47 %.

Claims

[Patentansprüche]
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung mehrfach DOPO-haltiger, reaktiver, organischer Verbindungen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß diese durch Addition von 9, 10-Dihydro-9-oxa-10-phospha- phenanthren-10-oxid (DOPO) an reaktive Gruppen tragende, acetylenisch ungesättigte Verbindungen in Gegenwart eines Katalysators, der für die Addition an Dreifachbindungen geeignet ist, erhalten werden.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die phosphororganische Verbindung DOPO und die acetylenisch ungesättigte Verbindung im Verhältnis 1,5 bis 3 Mol DOPO pro Dreifachbindung, bevorzugt 1,9 bis 2,1 Mol DOPO pro Dreifach- bindung, miteinander zur Reaktion gebracht werden.
3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als acetylenisch ungesättigte Verbindungen Al.kine, Alki- nole, Alkincarbonsäuren, Alkincarbonsäureester oder entspre- chende Alkadiinverbindungen eingesetzt werden.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß für die Umsetzung der phosphororganischen Verbindung DOPO mit der acetylenisch ungesättigten Verbindung als Katalysator Quecksilber- oder Kupfersalze oder A ine oder bevorzugt Aluminiumtriisopropylat, eingesetzt werden.
5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Additionsreaktion in Lösung durchgeführt wird, wobei als Lösungsmittel bevorzugt 1,4-Dioxan eingesetzt wird.
6. Verwendung der mehrfach DOPO-haltigen, reaktiven, organischen Verbindungen hergestellt gemäß der Ansprüche 1 bis 5 als Flammschutzmittel für thermoplastische Polymere.
