Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for reading security features on value and / or security documents with the features of claim 1 and a corresponding device according to the features of claim 11.
  • the carrier can be, for example, a letter, large or maxi letter, on which the document of value is arranged in the form of one or more stamps.
  • Banknotes, ID cards, packaging, labels, stickers and tickets, in particular products which can be printed or otherwise provided with security features, are also considered to be value or security documents in the sense of the present invention.
  • the security features housed on or in the value or security document contain information that is usually not readily visible. Examples are magnetic or electromagnetic peculiarities, certain material properties as well as characteristics that can be detected in UV, IR and NIR. Typically, special sensors that are tailored to the respective case and that detect one or more of such properties are used for this.
  • DE 101 13 267 AI describes antistoke phosphors which, when excited with certain electromagnetic radiation, have characteristic luminescent properties, the emitted radiation being shorter-wave than the excitation radiation. Further luminescent substances which are suitable as security features for documents of value are described in DE 198 03 997 AI, WO 98/39392 AI, DE 199 17 887 AI.

  • the value and / or security document is scanned optically and excited with periodically pulsed electromagnetic radiation. It then emits luminescent radiation, from which raw signals are obtained. Both the scanning / excitation and the luminescence can take place in the entire electromagnetic wavelength range, but in particular in the invisible range and very particularly in the NIR range.

Structural features and the information associated with them are thus extracted from the time-resolved intensity of the raw luminescence signal.
  • the present invention results in an advantageous extension of the conventional method because structural information is stored with the authenticity feature and, for example, nominal value or country coding can be read out with this additional information.

It also contains a decoding device for the geometric pattern extracted from the luminescence raw signal, in particular the bar code, and an output device for outputting a true / false statement and for outputting the information encoded in the geometric pattern.
