Definitions
- the present invention relates to a carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite, and more particularly, to a continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite having excellent impregnation properties and a method of manufacturing the same.
- Carbon fiber reinforced composites in which carbon fibers are dispersed in matrix resins, are excellent in light weight, mechanical properties, dimensional stability, conductivity, etc., and are used in automobiles, aircraft, electrical and electronic equipment, optical instruments, precision instruments, entertainment and toys. It is used in a wide range of fields, such as homes, office products, and building materials, and its demand is increasing year by year.
- the carbon fiber bundle containing thousands of filaments and the matrix resin can be easily impregnated in the impregnation process of impregnating the carbon fiber with the matrix resin. It is necessary to be able to do it completely.
- carbon fiber has a small elongation and a weak property, it is easy to cause fluff due to mechanical friction or the like, and also lacks wettability with respect to the matrix resin. For this reason, the carbon fiber used as a reinforcing material hardly exhibits the excellent property as mentioned above.
- the processing by the binding agent is conventionally performed about the carbon fiber used for the reinforcement of a fiber reinforced composite material. In other words, by treating the carbon fibers with a binding agent, the handleability of the carbon fibers is improved and the wettability to the matrix resin is improved.
- binding agent examples include a condensation product of an epoxy resin with an unsaturated dibasic acid and an alkylene oxide adduct of bisphenols, and a binding agent containing alkylene oxide adducts of phenols selected from monocyclic phenols and polycyclic phenols as essential components. Proposed. Furthermore, a stiffener comprising an epoxy resin, an alkylene oxide adduct of monocyclic or polycyclic phenols, an unsaturated dibasic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof, and a polyester condensate having an acid value of 40 or less of an alkylene oxide adduct of bisphenols is proposed. It became.
- the more dispersed the carbon fibers in the form of short fibers the more favorable the uniformity of characteristics and the surface appearance quality.
- the mechanical properties of the carbon fiber reinforcement composite is lowered as the spreading properties of the carbon fiber bundle in the impregnation process is lowered.
- continuous fiber having 3000 fiber bundles is generally used to manufacture fiber reinforced thermoplastics using continuous carbon fiber.
- the continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite having 3000 fiber bundles has a problem of high manufacturing cost due to high raw material cost and low productivity.

- another object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite which can improve the mechanical properties by increasing the impregnation while lowering the manufacturing cost.
- a method of manufacturing a continuous carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite according to the present invention wherein filaments of carbon fibers are formed by a sizing agent containing a water-soluble resin.
- the continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite according to the present invention has high mechanical properties such as flexural strength and flexural rigidity due to high impregnation of the continuous carbon fibers in the thermoplastic.
- the method of manufacturing a continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite according to the present invention is SI unit (MPa 1/2
- SI unit MPa 1/2
- FIG. 1 is a flow chart illustrating a method of manufacturing a continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite according to the present invention.
- the continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite according to the present invention comprises a continuous carbon fiber (carbon fiber or graphite fiber) impregnated in the thermoplastic resin, the continuous carbon fiber is a continuous continuous widened 4 to 8 times the width of the initial fiber bundle It is characterized by being a carbon fiber.
- the continuous carbon fiber may be one in which the initial fiber bundle having a width of 5 mm is widened to 20 mm to 40 mm.
- the continuous carbon fiber used may be a carbon fiber having 12000 or 24000 fiber bundles.
- the manufacture of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics using continuous carbon fibers generally uses continuous fibers with 3000 fiber bundles, but they have high manufacturing costs due to high raw material costs and low productivity. Therefore, in the present invention, it is possible to expect the effect of productivity improvement while lowering the manufacturing cost by using a continuous carbon fiber having a universal 12000 or 24000 fiber bundles.
- the continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite according to the present invention is characterized by having a flexural strength of 460 MPa or more, preferably 460 MPa to 680 MPa and a bending strength of 38 GPa or more, preferably 38 GPa to 44 GPa due to its high impregnation. This is attributable to the increase in the spreading properties (opening properties) of the continuous carbon fiber bundles.
- FIG. 1 is a flow chart illustrating a method of manufacturing a continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite according to the present invention.
- the method for producing a continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite includes a continuous carbon fiber preparation step (S10), a binder removal step (S20) and a continuous carbon fiber bundle impregnation step (S30). .
- a bundle in which respective carbon fiber filaments are focused by a sizing agent including a waterborne resin is included.
- a sizing agent including a waterborne resin is included.
- the focused continuous carbon fiber means a continuous carbon fiber in which continuous carbon fiber filaments are focused to improve handling of the continuous carbon fiber.
- the focusability of the continuous carbon fiber means a property for maintaining the form of the continuous carbon fiber.
- focusing agent collectively refers to the materials used as coatings to change or increase the specific physical properties of the continuous carbon fibers for focusing the continuous carbon fiber filaments.
- the continuous carbon fiber preparing step (S10) described above may use a continuous carbon fiber in which the filaments of the continuous carbon fiber obtained by using a conventional method is focused.
- the water-soluble resin for example, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyethylene (polyethylene), polypropylene (polypropylene), polystyrene (polystyrene), polyphenylene oxide (polyphenylene oxidel; PPO), poly Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), nylon 6.6, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and the like can be used. It is available.
- PTFE polytetrafluoroethylene
- PVC polyethylene
- PET polyethylene terephthalate
- nylon 6.6 polymethyl methacrylate
- PMMA polymethyl methacrylate
- the water-soluble resin is not particularly limited thereto.
- Dissolution parameters of the above-mentioned water-soluble resin are as shown in Table 1 below.
- the unit of solubility ( ⁇ ) was expressed as MPa 1/2 which is an SI unit.
- the continuous carbon fiber may be one having a general purpose 12,000 or 24000 fiber bundles, which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture compared to the continuous carbon fiber having 3000 fiber bundles.
- the continuous carbon fiber preparation step (S10) may be a step of focusing the continuous carbon fiber using a binding agent containing a water-soluble resin.
- the binder is removed from the continuous carbon fiber by using a solvent having a difference in the solubility parameter of the water-soluble resin included in the binder from 2.0 or less based on the SI unit (MPa 1/2 ) ( S20).
- the openness of the continuous carbon fiber bundles is determined during the impregnation process according to the manufacturer's focusing treatment. Remove it.
- the solvent used in the present invention it is preferable to select a solvent which can dissolve a waterborne resin mainly used for the concentration treatment of the continuous carbon fibers and does not cause chemical effects such as erosion on the continuous carbon fibers. It is also desirable to select ones that do not interfere with the chemical properties of the continuous carbon fibers.
- the solvent has a difference in solubility parameter from the water-soluble resin contained in the binding agent of 2.0 or less based on the SI unit (MPa 1/2 ).
- solvents include n-Pentane, hexane, n-hexane, diethyl ether, ethyl acetate, chloroform, dichloromethane and 2-propanol. (2-propanol), ethanol (Ethanol), etc. can be used, These can be used individually or in mixture of 2 or more types.
- the dissolution parameters of the solvents are as shown in Table 1 below.
- the unit of solubility (delta) was described as MPa 1/2 which is SI unit.
- the solvent according to the present invention can be adopted depending on the kind of the water-soluble resin contained in the continuous carbon fiber binding agent.
- ethanol with a dissolution parameter difference of 1.8 with nylon 6.6 can be used as the solvent.
- ethyl acetate or chloroform can be used as the solvent, where the difference in dissolution parameters with polystyrene or polyphenylene oxide is 0.1, respectively.
- the content of the solvent applied to the continuous carbon fibers during the binding agent removal process is important because it affects the openness of the continuous carbon fiber bundle in the impregnation process. Accordingly, the solvent is preferably used at 200 parts by weight to 300 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of the continuous carbon fiber.
- the binding agent may remain to reduce the carding performance of the continuous carbon fiber bundle in the impregnation process.
- the content of the solvent exceeds 300 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of the continuous carbon fiber, the focusing is easily released, thereby causing twist in the middle pin during the continuous process, and acting as a factor causing friction between the pin and the fiber.
- solvent may flow down the continuous carbon fiber bundles to corrode the composite fabrication equipment of the metal.
- the dispenser can adjust the amount of solvent dropping according to the production speed using a digital method or an analog method. Since the dispenser must contain a solvent, it is preferable to use one formed of a material having excellent chemical resistance.
- thermoplastic plastic S30.
- thermoplastic is not particularly limited, and for example, polyamide (PA), polypropylene, polyethylene, polyacetate, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (acrylonitril-butadiene- styrene (ABS) resins and the like, and these may be used alone or in combination of two or more thereof.
- PA polyamide
- PET polyethylene terephthalate
- ABS acrylonitrile butadiene styrene
- ABS acrylonitril-butadiene- styrene
- the impregnation process may be carried out by heating the thermoplastic plastics into a fluid and then mixing the continuous carbon fiber bundles with the heated thermoplastic plastics and then applying pressure to compress them.
- Impregnation process according to the present invention can be improved after the removal of the binding agent using the above solvent to improve the openness of the continuous carbon fiber bundle, in this case, the width of the initial continuous carbon fiber bundle 4 to 8 times It can be spread evenly with a wide width of.
- the continuous carbon fiber after the impregnation process may be widened to 20mm to 40mm.
- the impregnability of the continuous carbon fiber bundles with respect to the thermoplastic plastic can be increased, and thus the continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite having excellent mechanical properties such as flexural strength and flexural rigidity can be manufactured.
- Continuous carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite according to the present invention can be widely used in the production of molding materials, such as automobiles, aircraft, ships, electronic devices, etc. that require excellent mechanical properties such as light weight and bending and bending characteristics.
- Polyamide 6 a matrix substrate, was heated to a temperature of 270 ° C., and carbon fiber twill cross CO6347 (manufactured by Touresa) was mixed in a volume fraction (wl%) of 49, and then pressed under a pressure of 10 MPa for 10 minutes to 20 mm. A composite spread out with a width of was prepared. Then, to measure the flexural strength and flexural stiffness, the composite material was cut with a diamond carter to prepare a 6 mm long specimen.
- Example 1 Except having unfolded by the width of 40 mm, it produced like Example 1.
- Example 1 and 2 have superior flexural strength and flexural rigidity characteristics than Comparative Examples, and in particular, Example 2 having the widest width of the continuous carbon fiber bundles has the flexural strength and flexural rigidity.
