Definitions

  • the tube with a laminated foil tubular body is for the packaging of liquid and viscous products and is applicable to the packaging industry.
  • Tubes with a laminated foil tubular body are well known in the art and are widely used for packaging of various products. Such tubes consist of a tubular body welded to a head with a round or non-round shape. The head has an opening for squeezing the product out and is usually closed by a cap. After filling, the tubes bottom end is sealed closed by welding.
  • Such an existing tube with a laminate foil tubular body is shown in Patent No. US3307738.
  • the tubular body is made of laminated foil, folded around a mandrel, the two overlapping edges are welded together and the resulting pipe is cut into required lengths. The body is then welded to the head.
  • the head is usually round in cross section in the area of the weld, but different shaped tubes with a non-round section are also known [WO2006/072865]. Since the longitudinal seam is formed by overlapping the two edges of laminated foil the seam thickness is significantly greater than the thickness of the non-welded laminate foil even after compressing during the weld.
  • the contour of the head in the weld area is a smooth curve (circle, oval, etc.) before welding, but after welding the outer contour of the tube in the area of the longitudinal seam is significantly different resulting in a degraded appearance of the tube.
  • the task of the invention is to create a tube with a laminated foil tubular body with an improved appearance of the weld between the head and body in the area of the body's side seam and with an increase in the overall quality of the tube.
  • the invention achieves these goals by creating a tube with a laminate foil tubular body incorporating a longitudinal seam.
  • the top end of the body is welded to the head.
  • the bottom end of the body is closed with an end seal.
  • the contour of the head has a cut-out positioned in the welding zone where the longitudinal seam is located which allows the outer contour of the tube, in the area of the longitudinal seam, to follow the same curve as the contour outside of the longitudinal seam area.
  • the bottom of the cut-out in the head of the tube can be a straight line.
  • the bottom of the cut-out in the head of the tube can be a groove.
  • the contour of the head, outside of the cut-out, can be not round.
  • the tube with a laminated foil tubular body has an improved appearance and the weld between the head and body, in the area of the side seam, is of better quality.
  • Fig. 1 is a general view of a tube with a laminated foil tubular body.
  • Fig. 2 is a cross section (AA) of the head of the tube in the welding area of the body to the head with a cut-out - straight line.
  • Fig. 3 is a cross section (AA) of the tube with a longitudinal seam in the area of the cut-out - straight line.
  • Fig. 4 is a cross section (AA) of the head of the tube in the welding area of the body to the head with a cut-out - groove.
  • Fig. 5 is a cross section (AA) of the tube with a longitudinal seam in the area of the cut-out - groove.
  • the tube has a tubular body 1 made of laminated foil (Fig. 1), the body 1 has a longitudinal seam 3.
  • the top end of body 1 is welded to head 2.
  • the bottom end of the body 1 is closed with an end seal 5.
  • the contour 6 of the head 2 in the area where the longitudinal seam 3 is located after welding has a cut-out 7 (Fig. 2) or groove 10 (Fig. 4) which allows the outline of the tube, in the longitudinal seam 3 area, to follow the same tube contour laying outside of the longitudinal seam 3 area.
  • the bottom of the cut-out in the head 2 can be in a straight line 7 (Fig. 2).
  • the bottom of the cut-out in the head 2 can be a groove 10 (Fig. 4).
  • the contour 6 of the head 2 outside the cut-out 7 (straight line) or cut-out 10 (groove) can be not round.
  • the production of the tubular body 1 of the tube is carried out by any of the known ways in which, because of the overlap of the edges of the laminate foil, the longitudinal seam 3 has a thickness greater than that of the foil.
  • the initial external profile of the head 2 is proportional to the desired final profile of the tube, round, oval, and others.
  • the area of the head 2 where the longitudinal seam 3 will be positioned also is determined.
  • contour 6 of the section of the initial external profile of the head 2 is determined.
  • a straight line 8 is drawn, tangent to contour 6.
  • a straight line 9 is drawn parallel to line 8 and at a distance D, providing width L of the cut-out 7, equal to the width of the longitudinal seam 3.
  • the section of the line 9 and the contour 6 form the bottom of the cut-out 7.
  • a curved line is drawn which corresponds to the internal contour of the tube in the area of the longitudinal seam 3.
  • the line forms a groove 10 in the head 2.
  • a tubular body 1 is welded to the constructed in the described manner head 2 and the longitudinal seam 3 is positioned on the cut-out - straight line 7 or groove 10.
  • the cut-out 7 or 10 serves as a repository which accommodates the thickening of the seam 3.
  • the outer profile of the tube body in the area of the longitudinal seam 3 has same smooth surface which the tube body has laying outside of the seam area 3.
  • the gap between body 1 and head 2 is minimal and is filled with molten material during the welding process, which ensures no leakage in the tube.
