Abstract

The present invention provides methods of predicting the virulence of Hand Foot and Mouth Disease viruses and outbreaks of said viruses comprising comparing Replikin concentrations in different isolates of virus and identifying relatively-virulent isolates as those having relatively-higher Replikin concentrations. The present invention further provides diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic applications for Replikin peptides identified in Hand Foot and Mouth Disease viruses including Replikin peptides identified as shared among viruses that cause Hand Foot and Mouth Disease.
