Abstract
본 발명은 제조가 용이하고 보관시 손상 발생이 적은 전극 및 이의 제조 방법에 대한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 전극은 금속 집전체 및 전극 합제를 포함하며, 상기 집전체는 폭을 갖는 모서리부를 제외한 나머지 부분이 매몰되어 형성된 리세스(recess)를 갖고, 상기 전극 합제는 상기 리세스에 매립되어 있는 것을 특징으로 한다.
Description
본 출원은 2015년 12월 15일에 출원된 한국특허출원 제 10-2015-0179363호 및 2016년 7월 7일에 출원된 한국 특허출원 10-2016-0086369호에 기초한 우선권을 주장한다. 본 발명은 전기화학소자용 전극 및 이를 포함하는 전기화학소자에 대한 것이다. 더욱 상세하게는 제조가 용이하고 보관시 손상 발생이 적은 전극 및 이의 제조 방법에 대한 것이다.
모바일 기기에 대한 기술 개발과 수요가 증가함에 따라 에너지원으로서의 이차전지의 수요가 급격히 증가하고 있고, 그러한 이차전지 중 높은 에너지 밀도와 전압을 가지고, 사이클 수명이 길며, 자기방전율이 낮은 리튬 이차전지가 상용화되어 널리 사용되고 있다.
또한, 최근에는 환경문제에 대한 관심이 커짐에 따라 대기오염의 주요 원인의 하나인 가솔린 차량, 디젤 차량 등 화석연료를 사용하는 차량을 대체할 수 있는 전기자동차(EV), 하이브리드 전기자동차(HEV) 등에 대한 연구가 많이 진행되고 있다. 이러한 전기자동차(EV), 하이브리드 전기자동차(HEV) 등의 동력원으로는 주로 니켈 수소금속(Ni-MH) 이차전지가 사용되고 있지만, 높은 에너지 밀도, 높은 방전 전압 및 출력 안정성의 리튬 이차전지를 사용하는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있으며, 일부 상용화 되어 있다.
이러한 리튬 이차전지의 전극은 일반적으로 금속 재질의 전극 집전체의 상면에 전극 활물질을 포함하는 전극 슬러리를 도포하고 압착/건조하여 제조한다. 도 1은 종래 통상적으로 사용되는 전극(10)의 단면을 도시한 것으로서, 평면상의 집전체(11)의 상면에 전극 합제가 코팅된 전극 활물질층(12)이 구비되어 있다. 통상적으로 전극은 다른 전극이나 분리막과 적층시 적층면이 평평하여 이격이 발생하지 않도록 평면 형상을 갖도록 제조될 필요가 있다. 그러나, 전극 활물질은 반 고형인 슬러리 상태로 집전체 상면에 도포되므로 평탄하고 균일한 도포가 쉽지 않으며, 상기 슬러리를 가열 압착하여 전극을 제조할 때 슬러리에 포함된 전극 활물질이 탈리되는 문제가 있다. 또한, 건조가 완료된 후에도 보관시 부주의로 전극이 부스러져 활물질이 탈리되는 등 손상이 발생될 수 있으며 이는 전극의 측면이나 모서리 부분에서 더 악화될 수 있다.
따라서, 제조가 용이하고 보관시 손상 발생이 적은 전극 및 이의 제조 방법이 요구된다.
따라서, 본 발명은 상기 기술된 문제점을 해결하기 위한 것으로서, 제조가 용이하고 보관시 손상 발생이 적은 전극 및 이의 제조 방법을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 또한, 본 발명은 전극의 두께 조절이 용이한 전극 제조방법을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 외의 본 발명의 다른 목적 및 장점들은 특허 청구 범위에 나타낸 수단 및 그 조합에 의해 실현될 수 있음을 쉽게 알 수 있을 것이다.
본 발명은 상기 기술적 과제를 해결하기 위한 전기화학소자용 전극을 제공한다.
본 발명의 제1 측면에 있어서, 상기 전극은 금속 집전체 및 전극 합제를 포함하며, 상기 집전체는 폭을 갖는 모서리부를 제외한 나머지 부분이 매몰되어 형성된 리세스(recess)를 갖고, 상기 전극 합제는 상기 리세스에 매립되어 있고, 상기 전극 합제의 표면은 패턴이 형성되어 있는 것이다.
본 발명의 제2 측면은 상기 제1 측면에 있어서, 상기 전극이 양극 또는 음극인 것이다.
본 발명의 제3 측면은 상기 제1 측면 또는 제2 측면에 있어서, 상기 리세스의 집전체 평면에 대한 수직 단면이 사각형, 삼각형 또는 반원형인 것이다.
본 발명의 제4 측면은 상기 제1 측면 내지 제3 측면 중 어느 하나에 있어서, 상기 전극 합제가 하면과 측면이 집전체로 둘러싸여 있으며, 상면은 개방된 것이다.
본 발명의 제5 측면은 상기 제1 측면 내지 제4 측면 중 어느 하나에 있어서, 상기 리세스는 집전체 평면에 대한 수직 단면이 사각형이며, 상기 리세스의 깊이와 전극 합제의 높이가 동일한 것이다.
본 발명의 제6 측면은 상기 제1 측면 내지 제5 측면 중 어느 하나에 있어서, 상기 패턴은 전극 합제의 표면에 하나 또는 둘 이상의 홈이 형성되어 있는 것이다.
본 발명의 제7 측면은 상기 제6 측면에 있어서, 상기 홈은 연속 또는 불연속의 선형의 오목형 고랑 및/또는 표면으로부터 깊이 h를 갖도록 형성된 오목형 핀홀인 것이다.
본 발명의 제8 측면은 상기 제5 측면에 있어서, 상기 리세스는 이의 내부측에 네 개의 측면과 상기 측면들이 연결된 하면을 포함하며, 상기 네 개의 측면 및 하면 중 적어도 하나는 내측으로 돌출된 요부가 형성된 것이다.
본 발명의 제9 측면은 상기 제8 측면에 있어서, 상기 요부는 도트 패턴 또는 스트라이프 패턴으로 구성된 것이다.
또한, 본 발명은 상기 제1 내지 제9 측면 중 어느 하나에 따른 전극 조립체를 제공한다. 상기 전극 조립체는 양극, 음극 및 상기 양극과 음극 사이에 개재되는 분리막을 포함하며, 상기 양극 및/또는 음극은 전술한 제1 측면 내지 제9 측면 중 어느 하나에 따른 것이다.
본 발명의 제11 측면은 상기 제10 측면에 있어서, 상기 음극 및/또는 양극은 전극의 개방면이 분리막과 대면하는 것이다.
또한, 본 발명은 전기화학소자를 제공한다. 본 발명의 제12 측면에 따르면, 상기 전기화학 소자는 하나 이상의 전극을 포함하는 전지 모듈 및 다수의 전지 모듈을 포함하는 전지팩으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 어느 하나이며, 상기 하나 이상의 전극 중 적어도 하나는 제1 측면 내지 제9 측면 중 어느 하나에 따른 것이다.
또한, 본 발명은 전기화학소자용 전극을 제조하는 방법을 제공한다. 본 발명의 제13 측면에 따르면, 상기 방법은 (S10) 집전체용 금속판을 준비하는 단계; (S20) 상기 집전체용 금속판을 금형처리하여 리세스(recess)를 형성하는 단계; 및 (S30) 상기 (S20)에서 형성된 리세스에 전극 합제를 매립하는 단계;를 포함한다.
본 발명의 제14 측면은, 상기 제13 측면에 있어서, 상기 금형처리는 상기 금속판을 압착기로 압착함으로써 수행되는 것이다.
본 발명의 제15 측면은, 상기 제14 측면에 있어서, 상기 압착기의 압착 깊이 조절을 통해 전극의 두께가 조절되는 것이다.
본 발명의 제16 측면은, 상기 제13 측면에 있어서, 상기 (S30)가 (S31) 전극 합제용 슬러리를 준비하는 단계; (S32) (S31)에서 준비된 슬러리를 리세스(recess)에 매립하는 단계; (S33) 일측 표면에 패턴이 형성된 금형을 매립된 슬러리의 표면에 배치하여 단계; (S34) 금형이 배치된 채로 슬러리를 건조하는 단계; 및 (S35) 건조된 전극 합제로부터 상기 금형을 제거하는 단계를 포함하며, 상기 (S33) 단계에서 패턴이 형성된 금형이 일측면은 슬러리의 표면과 접하도록 배치되는 것이다.
본 발명에 따른 전극은 전극 활물질층의 측면부가 집전체에 의해 둘러싸여 있으므로 전극의 측면이나 모서리 부분에서 전극의 손상이 감소되는 효과가 있다.
또한, 본 발명에 따른 전극의 제조 방법은 전극의 형상이나 두께 조절이 용이하다. 특히 전극 표면에 요철 등 소정의 패턴을 형성하는 경우 전극 슬러리 건조 전 대응 되는 패턴이 새겨진 금형(몰드)을 이용하여 용이하게 패턴을 형성할 수 있다. 이와 같이 전극 표면에 패턴을 형성하기 위해 건조된 전극에 무리하게 열이나 압력을 가하지 않아도 되므로 전극 열화가 방지된다. 마지막으로 본 발명에 따른 전극은 집전체와 전극 활물질층이 대면하는 이온 면적이 증가되므로 전도도가 증가되는 효과가 있다.
본 명세서에 첨부되는 다음의 도면들은 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예를 예시하는 것이며, 후술하는 발명의 상세한 설명과 함께 본 발명의 기술사상을 더욱 이해시키는 역할을 하는 것이므로, 본 발명은 그러한 도면에 기재된 사항에만 한정되어 해석되어서는 아니된다.

이하에서는 첨부한 도면을 참조하여 본 발명에 따른 구성 및 작용을 구체적으로 설명한다. 본 명세서 및 특허청구범위에 사용된 용어 또는 단어는 통상적이거나 사전적인 의미로 한정해서 해석되어서는 아니되며, 발명자는 그 자신의 발명을 가장 최선의 방법으로 설명하기 위해 용어의 개념을 적절하게 정의할 수 있다는 원칙에 입각하여 본 발명의 기술적 사상에 부합하는 의미와 개념으로 해석되어야만 한다. 따라서, 본 명세서에 기재된 실시예와 도면에 도시된 구성은 본 발명의 가장 바람직한 일 실시예에 불과할 뿐이고, 본 발명의 기술적 사상을 모두 대변하는 것은 아니므로, 본 출원시점에 있어서 이들을 대체할 수 있는 다양한 균등물과 변형예들이 있을 수 있다.
본 발명에 있어서, 전극 조립체는 음극/분리막/양극이 순차적으로 적층되어 이루어진 적층 구조체를 말한다. 상기 전극 조립체는 음극, 분리막 및 양극이 각각 하나 이상 포함된 것이다.
또한, 본 발명에 있어서, 단위 셀 또는 단위 전지는 전술한 전극 조립체 및 전해질을 포함하는 것으로서 충방전 등 전기화학반응이 가능한 최소 단위인 것이다.
또한, 본 발명에 있어서, 전지, 전지 모듈 및/또는 전지 팩은 상기 단위 셀 또는 단위 전지를 하나 이상 포함하는 전기화학소자를 의미한다.
또한 본 발명에 있어서, 전기화학소자는 전술한, 전극, 전극 조립체, 단위셀 및 전지, 전지 모듈 및 전지팩을 모두를 포괄적으로 포함하는 것이다.
이하 본 발명을 구체적으로 설명한다.
본 발명은 이차 전지 등 전기화학소자용 전극, 상기 전극을 포함하는 전극 조립체, 상기 전극 및/또는 전극 조립체를 포함하는 전기화학소자에 대한 것이다. 또한, 본 발명은 상기 전극을 제조하는 방법에 대한 것이다. 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서 상기 전극은 전기 자동차(EV)용 이차 전지 및/또는 전력 저장 시스템(ESS)용 이차 전지(ESS)에 사용될 수 있다. 또는 상기 전극은 2,400mAh 이상의 용량을 나타내는 고용량 전극일 수 있다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 전극은 집전체 및 전극 합제를 포함한다. 여기에서 상기 전극은 음극 또는 양극 또는 이 둘 모두를 지칭한다.
상기 집전체는 소정 폭을 갖는 모서리 부분 및 상기 모서리 부분을 제외한 나머지 부분이 함몰되어 형성된 리세스(recess)를 포함하여 일체로 형성된 것이고, 상기 전극 합제는 상기 리세스에 매립되어 있는 것이다. 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서, 상기 집전체는 피매립물을 담을 수 있도록 빈 공간이 형성되어 있는 그릇 형상인 것으로서, 상기 그릇의 입구의 둘레에 소정 폭을 갖는 테두리가 형성되어 있는 것이다.
도 2는 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 따른 전극(100)의 형상을 예시적으로 나타낸 것이다. 이하 도 2를 참조로 하여 본 발명의 전극에 대해 구체적으로 설명한다.
도 2를 참조하면, 본 발명에 따른 집전체(110)는 소정의 깊이를 갖도록 함몰된 리세스(recess)가 형성되어 있다. 상기 리세스는 다양한 형상으로 형성될 수 있다. 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서 상기 리세스는, 예를 들어 집전체 평면에 대한 수직 단면이 사각형, 삼각형 또는 반원형일 수 있으나 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다. 도 2에서는 리세스의 형상으로 일면, 특히 상면이 개방된 육면체를 예시하였으나 이는 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 중 하나인 것으로 발명의 이해를 돕기 위한 것이고, 특별히 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
한편, 상기 집전체는 상기 리세스에서 연장되어 소정의 폭을 갖는 모서리 부분를 포함한다. 상기 모서리 부분은 전지 제조시 적절하게 타발되어 전극탭으로 제공되거나 별도의 전극 탭이 연결되는 부분으로 제공될 있다.
본 발명에 따른 전극은 전극 합제(120)가 리세스에 매립되어 있으므로 전극 보관시 전극 활물질이 탈리가 방지되고 특히 전극 모서리 부분에서 전극 합제가 부스러져 손상되는 일이 발생할 빈도가 현저히 저감되는 효과가 있다. 본 명세서 전체에 있어서 상기 용어 '전극 합제'는 '전극 활물질층'과 혼용될 수 있으며 동일한 대상을 지칭한다.
또한, 본 발명에 따른 전극은 전극 활물질층의 하면부와 측면부가 집전체로 둘러싸여 있고, 상면부가 개방되어 있다. 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서, 상기 전극 합제의 높이는 상기 리세스의 깊이와 동일한 것이 바람직하다. 따라서, 도 1과 같은 통상적인 형상의 전극에 비해 집전체와 전극 활물질의 접촉 면적이 증가되는 효과가 있다.
참고로, 본원의 실시예에 관한 설명 중 방향이나 위치와 관련된 용어(상면부, 하면부, 측면부 등)는 도면에 나타나 있는 각 구성의 배치 상태를 기준으로 설정한 것이다. 예를 들면, 도 1에서 보았을 때 위쪽이 상면부, 아래쪽이 하면부, 상면부와 하면부 사이의 연결된 부분은 측면부 등이 될 수 있다. 다만, 본원의 실시예의 다양한 실제적인 적용에 있어서는, 상하좌우측면이 반대가 되는 등 다양한 방향으로 배치될 수 있을 것이다.
도 3은 종래 사용되는 통상적인 형태의 전극에서 전자의 이동을 도식화하여 나타낸 것이며, 도 4는 본 발명에 따른 전극에서 전자의 이동을 도식화하여 나타낸 것이다. 도 3의 전극에서는 전극 활물질층이 하면부만 집전체와 대면하고 있는 반면 도 4의 전극에서는 전극 활물질층의 측면부까지 집전체와 대면한다. 따라서 전극 활물질층의 하면부의 면적이 동일하다면 본 발명의 전극은 측면부의 넓이만큼 전자 전도가 향상되는 효과가 있다.
또한, 본 발명은 음극, 양극 및 상기 음극과 양극 사이에 개재된 분리막을 포함하는 전극 조립체를 제공한다. 상기 전극 조립체에 있어서, 상기 양극 및 음극 중 적어도 하나 이상은 본 발명에 따른 특징을 갖는 전극일 수 있다. 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서, 상기 전극 조립체는 음극 및 양극 모두가 본 발명에 따른 전극일 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서, 상기 전극은 표면에 소정의 패턴을 가질 수 있다.
상기 패턴은 전극의 표면적을 넓혀 반응성을 높일 수 있으며, Li 이온이 전극 표면에서 전극 내부로 이동하는 거리가 단축되어 이온 전도도가 개선되는 효과가 있다. 또한, 상기 패턴은 전극과 분리막 사이에 전해액이 유동할 수 있는 유동로를 제공할 수 있으므로 상기 패턴에 의해 전해액 함침성이 증가될 수 있다.
도 5a 및 도 5b는 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 따른 패턴(140)이 형성된 전극을 도시한 것으로서 이를 참조하면, 상기 패턴은 전극 표면에서 소정의 깊이(h)를 갖도록 오목한 홈의 형태로 형성될 수 있다. 상기 홈은 연속 또는 불연속의 선형의 고랑의 형태로 형성될 수 있으며 이러한 고랑들은 하나 또는 둘 이상 형성될 수 있다. 또한, 상기 고랑들은 서로 평행하게 형성될 수 있으며, 또 다르게는 서로 교차될 수 있다. 상기 패턴의 단면은 도 5에 도시된 바와 같이 삼각형 또는 역삼각형의 형태를 가질 수 있으며 그 외에도 사각형, 반원형, U 자형, 역사다리꼴형 등일 수 있으나 특별히 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
또 다른 구체적인 실시양태에 따르면, 상기 패턴은 소정의 깊이 h를 갖도록 형성된 오목형 핀홀의 형태를 가질 수 있으며 상기 핀홀은 전극 면적에 대해 적절한 수로 형성될 수 있다.
도 6은 패턴 형성에 의해 Li 이온이 전극 내부로의 이동 거리가 단축되는 것을 도식화하여 나타낸 것이다.
도 7은 본 발명에 따른 전극 조립체(200)를 도시한 것으로서, 양극(11a) 및 음극(110b)이 모두 본 발명에 따른 전극인 것이다. 도 6은 도 5의 A-A'의 단면을 도시한 것으로서, 음극 및 양극에서 전극 활물질이 노출된 개방부가 각각 분리막과 대면하고 있다.
한편, 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 따르면, 상기 리세스는 측면부 및/또는 하면부 중 적어도 하나의 표면에 리세스 내측으로 돌출된 요부(111)가 형성될 수 있다. 상기 요부는 예를 들어 도트 패턴 또는 스트라이프 패턴 또는 이들 모두일 수 있으나 특별히 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다. 이와 같이 리세스의 표면에 요부가 더 구비됨으로써 집전체의 표면적이 부가적으로 증대되는 효과가 있다. 도 11a 및 11b는 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태로 집전체(110d) 중 리세스의 하면 일부가 돌출되도록 요부(111)가 형성된 것을 도식화하여 나타낸 것이다.
또한 본 발명은 본 발명에 따른 전극을 제조하는 방법을 제공한다.
본 발명에 있어서, 상기 전극을 제조하는 방법은 (S10) 집전체용 금속판을 준비하는 단계; (S20) 상기 집전체용 금속판을 금형처리하여 리세스(recess)를 형성하는 단계; 및 (S30) 상기 (S20)에서 형성된 리세스에 전극 합제를 매립하는 단계;를 포함한다.
본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서, 상기 금형처리는 예를 들어 상기 금속판을 소정의 형상을 갖는 압착기로 압착함으로써 수행될 수 있다. 이때 상기 압착기의 형상은 소망하는 전극의 형상에 대응되도록 형성할 수 있다.
도 9a 내지 도 9e은 본 발명에 따른 전극 제조 방법을 도식화하여 나타낸 것이다. 이를 참조하면, 우선, 집전체용 금속판(110c)을 준비하고 이를 압착기(300)의 하부에 배치한다(도 9a). 이때 상기 금속판은 지지대(미도시)에 의해 지지될 수 있으며, 상기 지지대는 집전체의 압착기의 형상에 대응되는 형상으로 구비될 수 있다.
다음으로 상기 금속판을 압착기로 압착하여 리세스를 형성한다(도 9b). 이때 상기 금속판 및/또는 압착기는 적절한 온도로 가열될 수 있다. 상기 압착시 압착 깊이에 따라 전극의 높이가 결정된다. 따라서, 상기 압착 깊이를 조절하는 방식으로 전극의 높이를 조절할 수 있다. 전극의 높이를 집전체의 리세스 높이로 조절하는 방식이 적용됨으로써 통상적인 전극 제조 방식에 비해 전극이 높이 조절이 용이하며 종래 전극 제조시 슬러리를 압착할 때 발생되는 전극 활물질의 탈리와 같은 문제가 방지될 수 있다. 전술한 방법에 의해 집전체에 리세스가 형성되면 압착기를 제거하고(9c 및 9d) 상기 리세스에 전극 합제를 매립하여 전극을 제조한다(9e).
상기 전극 합제 매립 후 전극 합제의 상면을 적절한 압착기를 사용하여 압착할 수 있으며, 이때 합제를 소정의 온도로 가열하여 합제에 포함된 바인더가 전극 활물질과 견고하게 결착하도록 할 수 있다.
한편, 상기 전극 합제를 압착하는 경우 리세스의 측면부가 합제를 지지하는 역할을 할 수 있으므로 전극 합제 압착시 전극 활물질이 탈리되지 않아 전극 용량이 전하되는 문제를 방지할 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 따르면 상기 (S30) 단계를 수행 중 전극 표면에 패턴을 형성할 수 있다. 도 10은 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 따라 표면에 패턴이 형성된 전극을 제조하는 방법을 개략적으로 나타낸 것이다. 이를 참조하여 전극 표면의 패턴 형성 방법을 설명하면,
우선, 전극 합제용 슬러리(120s)를 준비하고(S31), 상기 슬러리를 집전체에 형성된 리세스(recess)에 투입한다(S32). 투입된 슬러리를 평평하게 표면을 고른 후 상기 전극 슬러리 표면에 소정의 패턴이 형성된 금형(170)을 배치한다(S33). 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 따르면 상기 금형은 전극에 형성하고자 하는 패턴에 대응되는 볼록 패턴이 구비되어 있는 판형의 틀을 사용할 수 있다. 상기 금형이 볼록 패턴을 미건조 슬러리 위에 놓여지므로 상압 조건에서도 슬러리에 대응되는 오목 패턴이 형성된다. 다음으로 금형을 배치시킨 상태에서 슬러리를 건조한 후(S34) 상기 금형을 제거한다(S35). 한편, 미건조 슬러리(120s)는 유동성이 있기 때문에 금형을 제거하는 경우 형성되지 않을 수 있다. 따라서, 금형을 제거하더라도 형성된 패턴이 유지될 수 있는 정도로 슬러리가 고화되어 전극 합제(120)가 될 때까지 금형을 제거하지 않는 것이 바람직하다.
통상적으로 전극 표면에 패턴을 형성하기 위해 건조된 전극 표면을 가열 조건에서 패턴이 형성된 가압 부재로 가압한다. 이 경우 건조된 전극 활물질층이 가압에 의해 부스러져 형태가 변형될 수 있으며, 인가된 온도에 의해 전극 활물질이 열화되는 문제가 있다. 이에 반하여 본원 발명의 패턴 형성 방법은 건조 전 슬러리에 금형을 배치하여 건조시키는 방법을 적용하기 때문에 전술한 바와 같은 형태 손상이나 전극 활물질의 열화와 같은 단점이 해소된다. 한편, 평판형 전극 집전체를 사용하는 경우에는 유동성이 있는 전극 슬러리에 금형으로 패턴을 형성할 때 전극 슬러리의 형태가 고정되지 않는 문제점이 있다. 그러나 본원 발명은 전극 집전체에 형성된 리세스(recess)가 미건조 슬러리가 유동하지 않도록 형태를 고정하고 있기 때문에 금형 틀을 이용한 패턴 형성이 용이하다.
본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서, 상기 집전체는 양극 집전체 또는 음극 집전체일 수 있다. 상기 집전체는 당해 전지에 전기화학적 변화를 유발하지 않고 안정한 것이면 특별히 한정되는 것은 아니다. 집전체가 부식될 경우, 전지 사이클이 반복됨에 따라 충분한 집전능력을 발휘할 수 없으므로 전지의 수명을 단축시키게 된다. 상기 집전체로는 스테인리스스틸, 알루미늄, 니켈, 티탄, 소성탄소, 구리 또는 스테인리스스틸의 표면에 카본, 니켈, 티탄, 은으로 표면처리한 것, 알루미늄-카드뮴합금, 도전재로 표면처리된 비전도성 고분자, 또는 전도성 고분자를 사용하여 제조된 것이 바람직하다.
상기 전극 합제층은 전극 활물질과 바인더 고분자를 포함하는 혼합물이며, 상기 혼합물은 추가적으로 도전재 등 전극의 성능에 도움이 될 수 있는 성분들이 더 포함될 수 있다. 상기 전극 활물질은 음극 활물질 또는 양극 활물질인 것으로 제조 목적에 부합하는 전극의 극성에 따른다.
상기 전극이 양극인 경우, 상기 전극은 양극 활물질로서, 예를 들어, 리튬 코발트 산화물(LiCoO2), 리튬 니켈 산화물(LiNiO2) 등의 층상 화합물이나 1 또는 그 이상의 전이금속 으로 치환된 화합물; 화학식 Li1

또한, 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서, 상기 음극 활물질은, 예를 들어 천연 흑연, 인조 흑연, 팽창 흑연, 탄소 섬유, 난흑연화성 탄소, 카본블랙, 카본나노튜브, 플러렌, 활성탄 등의 탄소 및 흑연 재료; 리튬과 합금이 가능한 Al, Si, Sn, Ag, Bi, Mg, Zn, In, Ge, Pb, Pd, Pt, Ti 등의 금속 및 이러한 원소를 포함하는 화합물; 금속 및 그 화합물과 탄소 및 흑연 재료의 복합물; 리튬 함유 질화물 등을 들 수 있다. 그 중에서도 탄소계 물질이 바람직하며, 이의 비제한적인 예로, 상기 탄소계 물질은 흑연계 탄소, 코크스계 탄소 및 하드 카본으로 이루어진 군에서 선택된 하나 이상일 수 있다.
상기 전극이 양극 또는 음극인 경우, 상기 도전재는 천연 흑연, 인조 흑연, 카본 블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸블랙, 탄소섬유, VGCF 등의 탄소계 물질; 구리, 니켈, 알루미늄, 은 등의 금속 분말 또는 금속 섬유 등의 금속계 물질; 폴리페닐렌 유도체 등의 도전성 폴리머; 또는 이들의 혼합물을 포함한다.
상기 전극이 양극 또는 음극인 경우, 상기 바인더 고분자는 양극 활물질 입자들 또는 음극 활물질 입자들을 서로 잘 부착시키고, 또한 음극 활물질을 전류 집전체에 잘 부착시키는 역할을 한다. 상기 바인더 고분자는 구체적으로 폴리이미드, 폴리아미드이미드, 폴리비닐알콜, 카르복시메틸셀룰로즈, 히드록시프로필셀룰로즈, 디아세틸셀룰로즈, 폴리비닐클로라이드, 카르복실화된 폴리비닐클로라이드, 폴리비닐플루오라이드, 에틸렌 옥사이드를 포함하는 폴리머, 폴리비닐피롤리돈, 폴리우레탄, 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 스티렌-부타디엔 러버, 아크릴레이티드 스티렌-부타디엔 러버, 에폭시 수지, 나일론 등을 들 수 있으나, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 분리막은 통상적으로 전기화학소자의 분리막 소재로 사용 가능한 것이 라면 특별한 제한 없이 사용이 가능하다. 이러한 분리막으로는 예를 들어, 폴리올레핀, 폴리에틸렌테레프탈레이트, 폴리부틸렌테레프탈레이트, 폴리아세탈, 폴리아미드, 폴리카보네이트, 폴리이미드, 폴리에테르에테르케톤, 폴리에테르설폰, 폴레페닐렌옥사이드, 폴리페닐렌설파이드, 폴리에틸렌나프탈렌과 같은 고분자 수지 중 적어도 어느 하나로 형성된 다공성 고분자 필름 또는 부직포를 사용할 수 있다. 또한 본 발명의 구체적인 일 실시양태에 있어서 분리막은 이종 이상의 서로 다른 기재가 순차적으로 적층된 적층 분리막일 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명은 상기 전극 조립체를 포함하는 전기화학소자를 제공한다. 상기 전기화학소자는 전극 조립체에 전해액을 주액하여 제조될 수 있다.
상기 전해액은 비수용매와 리튬염을 포함한다. 본 발명에 있어서 상기 비수 용매는 카보네이트계, 에스테르계, 에테르계, 케톤계, 알코올계, 및 비양성자성 용매 중 선택된 1종 이상을 추가적으로 포함할 수 있다. 상기 카보네이트계 용매로는 디메틸 카보네이트(DMC), 디에틸 카보네이트(DEC), 디프로필 카보네이트 (DPC), 메틸프로필 카보네이트(MPC), 에틸프로필 카보네이트(EPC), 메틸에틸 카보네이트(MEC), 에틸렌 카보네이트(EC), 프로필렌 카보네이트(PC), 부틸렌 카보네이트(BC) 등이 사용될 수 있으며, 상기 에스테르계 용매로는 메틸 아세테이트, 에틸 아세테이트, n-프로필 아세테이트, 디메틸아세테이트, 메틸프로피오네이트, 에틸프로피오네이트, γ-부티로락톤, 데카놀라이드(decanolide), 발레로락톤, 메발로노락톤(mevalonolactone), 카프로락톤(caprolactone), 등이 사용될 수 있다. 상기 에테르계 용매로는 디부틸 에테르, 테트라글라임, 디글라임, 디메톡시에탄, 2-메틸테트라히드로퓨란, 테트라히드로퓨란 등이 사용될 수 있으며, 상기 케톤계 용매로는 시클로헥사논 등이 사용될 수 있다. 또한 상기 알코올계 용매로는 에틸알코올, 이소프로필 알코올 등이 사용될 수 있으며, 상기 비양성자성 용매로는 R-CN(R은 탄소수 2 내지 20의 직쇄상, 분지상, 또는 환 구조의 탄화수소기이며, 이중결합 방향 환 또는 에테르 결합을 포함할 수 있다) 등의 니트릴류 디메틸포름아미드 등의 아미드류, 1,3-디옥솔란 등의 디옥솔란류, 설포란(sulfolane)류 등이 사용될 수 있다.
상기 리튬염은 유기 용매에 용해되어, 전지 내에서 리튬 이온의 공급원으로 작용하여 기본적인 리튬 이차 전지의 작동을 가능하게 하고, 양극과 음극 사이의 리튬 이온의 이동을 촉진하는 역할을 하는 물질이다. 본 발명에 있어서 상기 리튬염은 전해액 중 0.1몰/리터 내지 2몰/리터의 농도로 포함된다. 상기 리튬염은 LiFSI, LiPF6, LiBF4, LiSbF6, LiAsF6, LiN(SO2C2F5)2, Li(CF3SO2) 2N, LiN(SO3C2F5)2, LiC4F9SO3, LiClO4, LiAlO2, LiAlCl4, LiN(CxF2x

또한, 이 외에 본 명세서에서 상술하지 않은 전지 소자들에 대해서는 전기화학소자 분야, 특히 리튬 이차 전지 분야에서 통상적으로 사용되는 소자들이 사용될 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명에 있어서, 상기 전기화학소자는 전기화학 반응을 하는 모든 소자를 포함하며, 구체적인 예로서 모든 종류의 일차전지, 이차전지, 연료전지, 태양전지 또는 수퍼 캐패시터 소자와 같은 캐퍼시터(capacitor) 등을 들 수 있다. 구체저긍로 상기 이차 전지는 리튬금속 이차전지, 리튬이온 이차전지, 리튬 폴리머 이차전지 또는 리튬이온 폴리머 이차전지 등을 포함하는 리튬 이차 전지인 것이다.
이상과 같이, 본 발명은 비록 한정된 실시예 및 도면에 의해 설명되었으나, 본 발명은 이것에 의해 한정되지 않으며, 본 발명이 속하는 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자에 의해 본 발명의 기술사상과 아래에 기재될 특허청구범위의 균등범위 내에서 다양한 수정 및 변형이 가능함은 물론이다.
Claims (16)
- 금속 집전체 및 전극 합제를 포함하며,상기 집전체는 폭을 갖는 모서리부를 제외한 나머지 부분이 매몰되어 형성된 리세스(recess)를 갖고, 상기 전극 합제는 상기 리세스에 매립되어 있고, 상기 전극 합제의 표면은 패턴이 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 전극은 양극 또는 음극인 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 리세스는 집전체 평면에 대한 수직 단면이 사각형, 삼각형 또는 반원형인 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 전극 합제는 하면과 측면이 집전체로 둘러싸여 있으며, 상면이 개방된 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극.
- 제1항에 있어서상기 리세스는 집전체 평면에 대한 수직 단면이 사각형이며, 상기 리세스의 깊이와 전극 합제의 높이가 동일한 것인 전기화학소자용 전극.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 패턴은 전극 합제의 표면에 하나 또는 둘 이상의 홈이 형성되어 있는 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극.
- 제6항에 있어서,상기 홈은 연속 또는 불연속의 선형의 오목형 고랑 및/또는 표면으로부터 깊이 h를 갖도록 형성된 오목형 핀홀인 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극.
- 제5항에 있어서,상기 리세스는 이의 내부측에 네 개의 측면과 상기 측면들이 연결된 하면을 포함하며, 상기 네 개의 측면 및 하면 중 적어도 하나는 내측으로 돌출된 요부가 형성된 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극.
- 제8 항에 있어서,상기 요부는 도트 패턴 또는 스트라이프 패턴으로 구성된 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극.
- 양극, 음극 및 상기 양극과 음극 사이에 개재되는 분리막을 포함하며,상기 양극 및/또는 음극은 1항 내지 9 항 중 어느 한 항에 따른 것인 전극 조립체.
- 제10 항에 있어서,상기 음극 및/또는 양극은 전극의 개방면이 분리막과 대면하는 것인, 전극 조립체.
- 하나 이상의 전극을 포함하는 전지 모듈 및 다수의 전지 모듈을 포함하는 전지팩으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 어느 하나이며, 상기 하나 이상의 전극 중 적어도 하나는 제1항 내지 9 항 중 어느 하나에 따른 것인, 전기화학소자.
- (S10) 집전체용 금속판을 준비하는 단계;(S20) 상기 집전체용 금속판을 금형처리하여 리세스(recess)를 형성하는 단계; 및(S30) 상기 (S20)에서 형성된 리세스에 전극 합제를 매립하는 단계;를 포함하는 전기화학소자용 전극을 제조하는 방법.
- 제 13 항에 있어서,상기 금형처리는 상기 금속판을 압착기로 압착함으로써 수행되는 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극을 제조하는 방법.
- 제14 항에 있어서,상기 압착기의 압착 깊이 조절을 통해 전극의 두께가 조절되는 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극을 제조하는 방법.
- 제13항에 있어서,상기 (S30)은 하기 단계들을 포함하며, 하기 (S33) 단계에서 패턴이 형성된 금형이 일측면은 슬러리의 표면과 접하도록 배치되는 것인, 전기화학소자용 전극을 제조하는 방법:(S31) 전극 합제용 슬러리를 준비하는 단계;(S32) (S31)에서 준비된 슬러리를 리세스(recess)에 매립하는 단계;(S33) 일측 표면에 패턴이 형성된 금형을 매립된 슬러리의 표면에 배치하여 단계;(S34) 금형이 배치된 채로 슬러리를 건조하는 단계; 및(S35) 건조된 전극 합제로부터 상기 금형을 제거하는 단계.
