Definitions

  • This invention relates to weighting means which is associated with a fishing rod and which is suitable for facilitating rod balance and stability during a casting action.
  • Fishing rods are typically identified by their weight (meaning the weight of line or lure required to flex a fully loaded rod) and action (describing the speed with which the rod returns to its neutral position).
  • weight meaning the weight of line or lure required to flex a fully loaded rod
  • action describing the speed with which the rod returns to its neutral position.
  • rods used today namely graphite, fiberglass and bamboo rods, of which the most popular rod tends to be graphite for its light weight characteristics and its ability to allow for further and more accurate casting.
  • a well designed rod typically comprises an elongate body that has a smooth, progressive taper from butt to tip.
  • a properly positioned reel is connectable to the elongate body at such a position that the reel constitutes a pivot point between two balanced levers, with the first lever extending between the butt end of the rod and the reel; with the second lever extending between the reel and tip end of the rod.
  • a user's dominant hand generally supports the reel, while the non-dominant hand pivots the butt end of the rod about the reel to cast a line extending from the tip end. Casting distance and accuracy is a direct result of the leverage that the first lever exerts on the second lever about the reel pivot.
  • the applicant has identified a novel way to overcome or at least alleviate this problem by increasing casting power and rod speed, and resultant rod balance and stability during the casting action in an effort to increase casting distance and repeatable casting position.
