Abstract
The present invention relates to apparatuses and methods for ascertaining an elemental composition of a material. Such an apparatus (1) for ascertaining an elemental composition of a material (2) comprises a collection container (3) having a neutron source (4), which is arranged in or on the collection container (3), and a radiation detector (5), which is arranged in or on the collection container, as well as an evaluation unit (6). The evaluation unit is configured to ascertain the elemental composition of the material (2) from the detected radiation using PGNAA (prompt gamma neutron activation analysis) and/or PFTNA (pulsed fast neutron activation analysis). Alternatively or additionally, LIBS (laser induced breakdown spectroscopy) can be used for the evaluation.
