- the positive electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery obtained by the production method according to the present embodiment will be described first, then the method for producing the positive electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery according to the present embodiment, and further, this A lithium ion secondary battery using a positive electrode active material will be described.
- the positive electrode active material for lithium ion secondary battery according to the present embodiment (hereinafter, also referred to as “positive electrode active material”) has a hexagonal layered structure and has a plurality of primary elements. It is preferable to contain a lithium nickel-manganese composite oxide composed of secondary particles in which the particles are aggregated.
- the lithium nickel-manganese composite oxide contains lithium (Li), nickel (Ni), manganese (Mn), titanium (Ti), niobium (Nb), and optionally Co, V, as elements other than oxygen. It contains element M (M), which is at least one element selected from Mg, Mo, Ca, Cr, Ta, Na, W, Fe, Zn, B, Si, P, Zr and Al.
- Lithium-ion secondary batteries are required to have high thermal stability, especially when a flammable non-aqueous electrolyte is used as a constituent material of the lithium-ion secondary batteries. Further, in a lithium ion secondary battery, when the positive electrode and the negative electrode are short-circuited in a charged state, a chain occurs in which the positive electrode active material is decomposed and further heat is generated due to a rapid current flow and large heat generation. There is. Therefore, by using a positive electrode active material having a high volume resistivity under the compressed condition in the positive electrode, it is possible to suppress a rapid increase in current caused by a short circuit, and the thermal stability at the time of a short circuit is further improved. Can be made to.
- the present inventors have made a positive electrode active material by containing a specific amount of titanium (Ti) and niobium (Nb) in a specific distribution in the lithium nickel-manganese composite oxide used as the positive electrode active material.
- Ti titanium
- Nb niobium
- FIGS. 1 to 5 are created based on the evaluation results of the positive electrode active material and the secondary battery obtained in Examples and Comparative Examples described later.
- FIG. 1 shows the maximum oxygen evolution peak temperature (° C.) obtained by measuring the amount of oxygen when the lithium nickel-manganese composite oxide (positive electrode active material) is overcharged and the temperature is raised from room temperature to 450 ° C. It is a graph.
- the graph of FIG. 1 shows Comparative Example 1A containing no titanium and niobium, Comparative Example 2A containing titanium alone (Ti: 2.6 atomic%), and Comparative Example 3 containing niobium alone (Nb: The maximum oxygen generation peak temperature of Example 2 (Ti: 2.2 atomic%, Nb: 0.5 atomic%) containing titanium and niobium is shown.
- Comparative Example 2A As shown in FIG. 1, as compared with Comparative Example 1A containing no titanium and niobium, Comparative Example 2A (Ti: 2.6 atomic%) containing only titanium and Comparative Example 3 containing only niobium. At (Nb: 1 atomic%), the maximum oxygen evolution peak temperature rises. Further, in Example 2A (Ti: 2.2 atomic%, Nb: 0.5 atomic%) containing both titanium and niobium, the maximum oxygen evolution peak temperature was further increased as compared with Comparative Examples 2A and 3A. To do.
- Example 2A together with Ti, only 0.5 atomic% of Nb is contained, and the maximum oxygen evolution peak temperature is higher than that of Comparative Example 3A (Nb: 1 atomic%). Therefore, in the positive electrode active material according to the present embodiment, it is possible to reduce the amount of expensive niobium used while suppressing oxygen evolution at a higher level during overcharging.
- FIG. 2 is a graph showing the volume resistivity ( ⁇ ⁇ cm) when the lithium nickel-manganese composite oxide (positive electrode active material) is compressed to 4.0 g / cm 3 .
- Comparative Example 2A As shown in FIG. 2, as compared with Comparative Example 1A containing only titanium and niobium, Comparative Example 2A (Ti: 2.6 atomic%) containing only titanium and Comparative Example 3 containing only niobium. At (Nb: 1 atomic%), the volume resistivity increases to some extent. However, in Example 2 (Ti: 2.2 atomic%, Nb: 0.5 atomic%) containing both titanium and niobium, the volume resistivity was significantly increased as compared with Comparative Examples 2 and 3. It is clear to do. Therefore, the positive electrode active material according to the present embodiment is excellent in thermal stability at the time of short circuit because the volume resistivity at the time of compression is remarkably increased by containing titanium and niobium.
- FIG. 3 shows Examples 2A and 6A (Ti: 2.2 atomic%, Nb: 0.5 atomic%) produced under the same conditions except that the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere in the firing step was changed. ) Is a graph showing the discharge capacity (mAh / g). As shown in FIG. 3, in Example 2A (oxygen concentration: 90% by volume) in which the oxygen concentration at the time of firing was 80% by volume or more, compared with Example 6A in which the oxygen concentration at the time of firing was 60% by volume. , The discharge capacity is improved.
- the positive electrode active material according to the present embodiment adjusts the production conditions (for example, the oxygen concentration during the firing step).
- the production conditions for example, the oxygen concentration during the firing step.
- the positive electrode active material according to the present embodiment has (i) high thermal stability during overcharging and extremely high compression during compression because the lithium nickel-manganese composite oxide contains titanium and niobium in combination. It is clear that volume resistivity can be realized at low cost, excellent thermal stability at the time of short circuit, and (ii) high battery capacity and high thermal stability can be achieved by adjusting the manufacturing conditions. is there.

Abstract
Description
また、aの範囲は、0.97≦a≦1.25、好ましくは1.00≦a≦1.15である。
