 特許文献1は、複数のファイバ心線がバンドルされた光ファイバユニットが複数集合した光ファイバユニット集合体を備えた光ファイバケーブルを開示している。光ファイバケーブルは、光ファイバユニット集合体の外周に設けられる外部止水材と、光ファイバユニット集合体の内部に設けられる内部止水材を備えている。内部止水材は、水膨張性の繊維または紐状部材である。
 特許文献2は、複数の光ファイバ心線よりなるケーブルコアを備えた光ファイバケーブルを開示している。ケーブルコアにおける外周側に位置する光ファイバ心線の部分は、第一吸水テープで巻かれている。ケーブルコアにおける中心側に位置する光ファイバ心線の部分は、少なくとも周方向の部分的に、第一吸水テープまたは第二吸水テープで巻かれている。
 特許文献3は、光ファイバ心線又は光ファイバテープ心線からなる光ファイバユニットと、複数の光ファイバユニットの外周に巻き付けられた押さえ部材とを備えた光ファイバケーブルを開示している。押さえ部材は、内側に吸水性材料を有している。押さえ部材の内径をd[mm]、押さえ部材の内側の空隙率をS[%]、押さえ部材の吸水性材料による10分間の吸水後の厚さ増加量をh[mm]としたとき、以下の式が成り立つ。

[本開示が解決しようとする課題]
 本開示は、光ファイバ心線を高密度に実装可能であり、かつ、防水性を有する光ファイバケーブルおよび光ファイバユニットを提供する。
[本開示の効果]
 本開示によれば、光ファイバ心線を高密度に実装可能であり、かつ、防水性を有する光ファイバケーブルおよび光ファイバユニットを提供することができる。
[本開示の実施の形態の説明]
 まず本開示の実施態様を列記して説明する。
 (1)本開示の光ファイバケーブルは、
 複数の光ファイバ心線と、
 複数の吸水性繊維と、
 前記複数の光ファイバ心線および前記複数の吸水性繊維の周囲を被覆する外被と、
を備えており、
 光ファイバケーブルの長手方向に直交する断面における前記外被より内側の収容部の面積に対する前記吸水性繊維の前記断面における面積の割合は1%以上5%以下であり、
 前記断面における前記光ファイバ心線に囲まれた空隙部の面積の最大値は1.0mm以下である。
 このような構成によれば、光ファイバ心線を高密度に実装可能であり、かつ、防水性を有する光ファイバケーブルを提供することができる。
 (2)前記断面における前記外被より内側の収容部の面積から前記断面における前記複数の光ファイバ心線の面積を減ずることにより求められた内部空隙面積を、前記収容部の面積で除することにより求められる内部空隙率は、30%以上50%以下でもよい。
 内部空隙率が30%より低いと、光ファイバケーブル内の光ファイバ心線が高密度になりすぎて、曲げ特性が悪くなる。一方、内部空隙率が50%より高いと、防水性が悪くなる。内部空隙率が30%以上50%以下であれば、光ファイバ心線を高密度に実装させて防水性を高めながら、良好な曲げ特性を得ることができる。
 (3)前記光ファイバ心線は220μm以下の外径を有してもよい。
 このような構成によれば、細径の光ファイバ心線を用いることにより、光ファイバ心線に囲まれた空隙部の面積を小さくできる。
 (4)前記吸水性繊維の繊度は5000d(デニール)以下でもよい。
 このような構成によれば、細径の吸水性繊維は小さい空隙内にも配置可能であるので、外被より内側の収容部の広範囲にわたって吸水性繊維を配置させることができる。
 (5)前記複数の光ファイバ心線および前記複数の吸水性繊維の周囲を覆う押さえ部材を備えており、
 前記押さえ部材は、前記外被と前記複数の光ファイバ心線および前記複数の吸水性繊維との間に配置されており、
 前記押さえ部材は、吸水性を有してもよい。
 このような構成によれば、押さえ部材により、外被より内側の収容部に水が浸入することを抑制することができる。
 (6)前記複数の光ファイバ心線の一部の周囲を覆う第一押さえ部材と、
 前記第一押さえ部材の外側に配置された前記複数の光ファイバ心線の他の一部の周囲を覆う第二押さえ部材と、を備えており、
 前記第一押さえ部材および前記第二押さえ部材は、吸水性を有してもよい。
 このような構成によれば、第二押さえ部材の内側に水が浸入することを抑制することができる。第二押さえ部材の内側に水が浸入した場合でも、第一押さえ部材により第一押さえ部材の内側に水が浸入することを抑制できる。これにより、外被の内側の収容部内の水走りを抑制することができる。また、光ファイバ心線と第一押さえ部材および第二押さえ部材との距離が短いので、例えば押さえ部材および押さえ部材の吸水性パウダーを光ファイバ心線の周囲へ行き渡らせることができる。また、第一押さえ部材の内側に配置された光ファイバ心線と、第一押さえ部材の外側に配置された光ファイバ心線とを判別することができる。
 (7)本開示の光ファイバユニットは、
 複数の光ファイバ心線と、
 複数の吸水性繊維と、
 前記複数の光ファイバ心線および前記複数の吸水性繊維の周囲を被覆する被覆部と、
を備えており、
 光ファイバユニットの長手方向に直交する断面における前記被覆部より内側の収容部の面積に対する前記吸水性繊維の前記断面における面積の割合は1%以上5%以下であり、

 このような構成によれば、光ファイバ心線を高密度に実装可能であり、かつ、防水性を有する光ファイバユニットを提供することができる。
[本開示の実施形態の詳細]
 本開示の光ファイバケーブルおよび光ファイバユニットの具体例を、図面を参照しつつ説明する。なお、本開示はこれらの例示に限定されるものではなく、請求の範囲によって示され、請求の範囲と均等の意味及び範囲内でのすべての変更が含まれることが意図される。
(第一実施形態)
 図1を参照して、第一実施形態に係る光ファイバケーブル1の構成について説明する。
 光ファイバケーブル1は、図1に例示されるように、複数の光ファイバ心線2と、複数の吸水性繊維3と、外被4とを備えている。外被4の内側の収容部Sには、複数の光ファイバ心線2および複数の吸水性繊維3が配置されている。
 光ファイバ心線2は、光ファイバリボン21を形成している。本例においては、光ファイバケーブル1において、12本の光ファイバ心線2により形成された光ファイバリボン21が36枚撚り合わされてまとめられている。なお、複数枚の光ファイバリボン21が撚り合わされて集合体を形成し、複数の集合体がさらに撚り合わされてもよい。この場合、光ファイバリボン21の集合体の周囲にはバンドル材が巻かれてもよい。
 光ファイバリボン21は、図2に例示されるように、複数の光ファイバ心線2を、その長手方向と直交する方向に並列させ、一部の隣接する光ファイバ心線2間を連結して連結部211を形成した構成を有している。連結部211は光ファイバ心線2に沿って間欠的に形成されており、光ファイバ心線2に沿って連結部211と非連結部212が交互に形成されている。光ファイバ心線2は、例えば、コアとクラッドからなるガラスファイバとガラスファイバの周囲を覆う一層または複数の被覆層により構成される。光ファイバ心線2は、例えば、220μm以下の外径を有している。
 吸水性繊維3は、例えば、ポリエステル繊維などからなる吸水ヤーンを含む。ポリエステル繊維としては、例えば、吸水速度が水道水で30g/min以下のポリエステル繊維が用いられる。
 外被4は、複数の光ファイバ心線2および複数の吸水性繊維3の周囲を被覆している。外被4は、例えば、高密度ポリエチレンなどの比較的ヤング率が高い硬質の樹脂により形成される。外被4には、複数のテンションメンバ5や複数の引き裂き紐6が埋め込まれてもよい。テンションメンバ5は、例えば、アラミドFRP、ガラスFRP、カーボンFRPなどの繊維強化プラスチック(FRP)や金属線などにより形成されうる。
 このような光ファイバケーブル1内には、外被4より内側の収容部Sの断面積に対する吸水性繊維3の断面積の割合が1%以上5%以下となるように、吸水性繊維3が配置される。また、光ファイバケーブル1内には、光ファイバリボン21により囲まれた空隙部S1の断面積の最大値が1.0mm以下となるように、光ファイバリボン21が配置される。断面積とは光ファイバケーブル1の長手方向に直交する断面における面積である。
 ここで、光ファイバ心線2は、水分によって伝送特性が悪化することが知られている。すなわち、光ファイバケーブル1において外被4の損傷や水分の浸透などによって外被4の内側の収容部S内に水が侵入した場合、光ファイバ心線2の伝送特性が悪化する恐れがある。また、光ファイバリボン21の隙間などに水が浸入した場合、当該隙間を水が伝わることで、ケーブル長手方向の広範囲にわたって水が浸入するおそれがある。このような光ファイバケーブル1の収容部S内で水が伝うことを水走りという。
 また、Lucas-Washburnの式から、液体の浸透深さは、毛管半径のルート(1/2乗)に比例することが分かる。すなわち、空隙部S1の半径および断面積が小さい程、液体の浸透深さは小さくなり、防水性は向上する。
 本実施形態の光ファイバケーブル1においては、空隙部S1の断面積の最大値を1.0mm以下としている。空隙部S1の断面積の最大値を1.0mm以下とすることにより、特に防水性を向上させることができる。すなわち、空隙部S1内に水走りが生じることを抑制することができる。また、光ファイバケーブル1においては、収容部Sの断面積に対する吸水性繊維3の断面積の割合を1%以上5%以下としている。したがって、外被4の内側の収容部S内に収容された吸水性繊維3により、外被4の内側に侵入してきた水を吸収することができる。これらにより、光ファイバ心線2を高密度に実装しながら、防水性を高めることができる。
 なお、光ファイバリボン21により囲まれた空隙部S1、とは、光ファイバリボン21単体により囲まれた空隙部と複数の光ファイバリボン21により囲まれた空隙部とのどちらも含み、隣り合う光ファイバ心線2同士が間隔を空けずに接触した複数の光ファイバ心線2により囲まれた空間を示す。いずれの場合も、光ファイバケーブル1は、空隙部の断面積の最大値が1.0mm以下になるように形成される。
 また、本実施形態においては、光ファイバ心線2は220μm以下の外径を有している。細径の光ファイバ心線2を用いることにより、内部空隙率が30%以上50%以下であれば、光ファイバリボン21に囲まれた空隙部S1の面積の最大値を小さくすることができ、空隙部の断面積の最大値を1.0mm以下にすることができる。
 本実施形態の光ファイバケーブル1は、外被4と複数の光ファイバリボン21および複数の吸水性繊維3との間に配置された押さえ部材7を備えてもよい。押さえ部材7は、複数の光ファイバリボン21および複数の吸水性繊維3の周囲を覆っている。押さえ部材7は、例えば、ポリエステルなどからなる不織布により形成される。また、押さえ部材7は、吸水性を有してもよい。押さえ部材7が吸水性を有する場合、押さえ部材7は、例えば、ポリエステル等からなる基布に吸水性パウダーを付着させることにより形成される。押さえ部材7は、複数の光ファイバリボン21の周囲に縦添えまたは螺旋状に巻回されうる。なお、縦添えに巻回されるとは、押さえ部材7の長手方向が光ファイバケーブル1の長手方向に平行となり押さえ部材7の幅方向が光ファイバケーブル1の周方向に沿うように、押さえ部材7が光ファイバリボン21の周囲に巻かれる状態を意味する。
 このように押さえ部材7が吸水性を有する場合は、外被4より内側の収容部Sに水が浸入することを抑制することができ、光ファイバケーブル1の防水性を高めることができる。
 また、本実施形態の光ファイバケーブル1は、内部空隙面積を収容部Sの断面積で除することにより求められる内部空隙率が30%以上50%以下となるように形成されてもよい。本例において、収容部Sは押さえ部材7により閉じられた空間であり、収容部Sの断面積は押さえ部材7の内径に基づいて算出される。押さえ部材7を有しない光ファイバケーブル1の場合、収容部Sは外被4により閉じられた空間であり、収容部Sの断面積は外被4の内径に基づいて算出される。内部空隙面積は、収容部Sの断面積から複数の光ファイバリボン21の断面積を減ずることにより求められる。
 ここで、図3に例示されるように、外被4の内側の収容部Sに実装される光ファイバ心線2の数が増加する(すなわち、空隙率が低くなる)ほど、防水性は良くなるが、曲げ特性は悪くなる傾向であることが知られている。なお、図3では、横軸が内部空隙率を表し、縦軸が走水速度または曲げ特性を表している。また、白三角は曲げ特性の値を示しており、黒丸が走水速度の値を示している。
 本実施形態の光ファイバケーブル1では内部空隙率は30%以上50%以下であるので、光ファイバ心線2を高密度に実装させて防水性を高めながら良好な曲げ特性を得ることができる。
 また、本実施形態の光ファイバケーブル1は、吸水性繊維3として5000d以下の繊度を有する吸水性繊維3を備えてもよい。細径の吸水性繊維3は小さい空隙内にも配置可能であるので、外被4より内側の収容部Sの広範囲にわたって吸水性繊維3を配置させることができる。
 また、本実施形態の光ファイバケーブル1は、図4に例示されるように、押さえ部材7に加えて、押さえ部材7の内側にさらに押さえ部材8を備えてもよい。押さえ部材7は第二押さえ部材の一例であり、押さえ部材8は第一押さえ部材の一例である。
 光ファイバケーブル1Aにおいて、押さえ部材8は、複数の光ファイバリボン21の一部の周囲を覆っている。押さえ部材8は、例えば、ポリエステルなどからなる不織布により形成される。また、押さえ部材8は、吸水性を有しており、例えばポリエステル等からなる基布に吸水性パウダーを付着させることにより形成されてもよい。押さえ部材8は、複数の光ファイバリボン21の周囲に縦添えまたは螺旋状に巻回される。吸水性繊維3は、押さえ部材8の内側にのみ配置されても、押さえ部材8の内側および外側に配置されてもよい。
 このような構成によれば、押さえ部材8の内側に配置された光ファイバ心線2と、押さえ部材8の外側に配置された光ファイバ心線2とを判別することができる。また、押さえ部材8が吸水性を有する場合、押さえ部材7の内側に水が浸入した場合でも、押さえ部材8の内側に水が浸入することを抑制できる。これにより、外被4の内側の収容部S内の水走りを抑制することができる。また、光ファイバ心線2と押さえ部材7および押さえ部材8との距離が短いので、押さえ部材7および押さえ部材8の吸水性パウダーを光ファイバリボン21の周囲へ行き渡らせることができる。
 以上、本開示を詳細にまた特定の実施態様を参照して説明したが、本開示の精神と範囲を逸脱することなく様々な変更や修正を加えることができることは当業者にとって明らかである。また、上記説明した構成部材の数、位置、形状等は上記実施の形態に限定されず、本開示を実施する上で好適な数、位置、形状等に変更することができる。
 上記の実施形態においては、光ファイバケーブル1について述べられているが、本実施形態の構成は光ファイバケーブル1以外にも適用可能である。図5は、光ファイバユニット11の一例を示す図である。光ファイバユニット11は、複数の光ファイバ心線12と、複数の吸水性繊維13と、被覆部14とを備えている。被覆部14の内側の収容部S10には、複数の光ファイバ心線12および複数の吸水性繊維13が配置されている。
 光ファイバ心線12は、光ファイバリボン121を形成している。複数枚の光ファイバリボン121は、撚り合わされることによりまとめられている。本例においては、光ファイバユニット11において、12本の光ファイバ心線2により形成された光ファイバリボン21が3枚撚り合わされている。
 光ファイバリボン121は、図2の光ファイバリボン21と同様に構成される。すなわち、光ファイバリボン121は、複数の光ファイバ心線12を、その長手方向と直交する方向に並列させ、一部の隣接する光ファイバ心線12間を連結して連結部211を形成した構成を有する。連結部211は光ファイバ心線2に沿って間欠的に形成されており、光ファイバ心線12に沿って連結部211と非連結部212が交互に形成される。光ファイバ心線12は、例えば、コアとクラッドからなるガラスファイバとガラスファイバの周囲を覆う一層または複数の被覆層により構成される。光ファイバ心線12は、例えば、220μm以下の外径を有する。
 吸水性繊維13は、例えば、ポリエステルなどからなる吸水ヤーンを含む。ポリエステル繊維としては、例えば、吸水速度が水道水で30g/min以下のポリエステル繊維が用いられる。
 被覆部14は、複数の光ファイバ心線12および複数の吸水性繊維13の周囲を被覆している。被覆部14は、例えば、高密度ポリエチレンなどの比較的ヤング率が高い硬質の樹脂により形成されうる。例えば引き裂き紐(図示せず)が被覆部14に埋め込まれる場合は、被覆部14は引き裂き紐によって引き裂くことが可能なように低強度であるとともに伸び率の低い部材で構成されてもよい。
 このような光ファイバユニット11内には、被覆部14より内側の収容部S10の断面積に対する吸水性繊維13の断面積の割合が1%以上5%以下となるように、吸水性繊維13が配置される。また、光ファイバリボン121により囲まれた空隙部S11の断面積の最大値は1.0mm以下となるように、光ファイバリボン121が配置される。断面積とは光ファイバユニット11の長手方向に直交する断面における面積である。
 このような構成によれば、空隙部S11の断面積の最大値を1.0mm以下とすることにより、特に防水性を向上させることができる。すなわち、空隙部S11内に水走りが生じることを抑制することができる。また、被覆部14の内側の収容部S10内に収容された吸水性繊維13により、被覆部14の内側に侵入してきた水を吸収することができる。これらにより、光ファイバ心線2を高密度に実装しながら、防水性を高めることができる。
 また、光ファイバユニット11は、光ファイバケーブル内に実装されてもよい。
 上記の実施形態において、光ファイバリボン21は12本の光ファイバ心線2により形成されている。しかしながら、光ファイバリボン21を形成する光ファイバ心線2の数は適宜変更可能である。同様に、光ファイバリボン121は12本の光ファイバ心線12により形成されている。しかしながら、光ファイバリボン121を形成する光ファイバ心線12の数は適宜変更可能である。
 上記の実施形態において、光ファイバケーブル1および光ファイバユニット11は、光ファイバ心線2および光ファイバ心線12の形態として光ファイバリボン21および光ファイバリボン121を有している。しかしながら、光ファイバケーブル1は、光ファイバリボンではなく単心の光ファイバ心線として光ファイバ心線2を有してもよい。同様に、光ファイバユニット11は、光ファイバリボンではなく単心の光ファイバ心線として光ファイバ心線12を有してもよい。単心の光ファイバ心線は複数本撚り合わせることにより集合体を形成してもよく、集合体の周囲はバンドル材が巻かれてもよい。この場合、光ファイバケーブル1は、複数の光ファイバ心線2により囲まれた空隙部の断面積の最大値が1.0mm以下になるように形成される。同様に、光ファイバユニット11は、複数の光ファイバ心線12により囲まれた空隙部の断面積の最大値が1.0mm以下になるように形成される。
(評価実験)
 本実施形態に係る光ファイバケーブル1において、内部空隙率、空隙部の最大面積、内部空隙面積に対する吸水性繊維の面積(吸水性繊維占有率)の3つのパラメータを変化させたサンプルNo.1からNo.19を用意した。光ファイバケーブル1において押さえ巻き部材7は非吸水の不織布テープを使用した。空隙部の最大面積は、光ファイバケーブル1の断面写真に基づいて複数の光ファイバリボン21により囲まれる面積を算出した。各サンプルに対して、サンプルを人工海水の中に常温で240時間保持し、その間に水走りした長さを測定することにより走水速度(m/h)の評価を行った。また、各サンプルに対して、ケーブルの外径の10倍の曲げ半径において±180°の曲げ試験を10サイクル行うことにより、曲げ試験中での波長1.55μmのロス増の大きさ(曲げ特性(dB/c))の評価を行った。以下の表1に、サンプルNo.1から19に対する防水性および曲げ特性の評価結果を示す。

 各サンプルに対する走水速度の評価は、走水速度が0.12m/h未満を満たすか否かで判断した。走水速度が0.12m/h未満であれば防水性は良好であると判断し、走水速度が0.10m/h以上0.12m/h未満のものを評価B、走水速度が0.10m/h未満のものを評価Aとした。また、走水速度が0.12m/h以上であれば防水性が劣ると判断し評価Cとした。すなわち、評価A又は評価Bのサンプルが良好な防水性を有する光ファイバケーブルである。
 各サンプルに対する曲げ特性の評価は、曲げ特性が0.15dB/c未満を満たすか否かで判断した。曲げ特性が0.15dB/c未満であれば曲げ特性は良好であると判断し、曲げ特性が0.10dB/c以上0.15dB/c未満のものを評価B、曲げ特性が0.10dB/c未満のものを評価Aとした。また、曲げ特性が0.15dB/c以上であれば曲げ特性が劣ると判断し評価Cとした。すなわち、評価A又は評価Bのサンプルが良好な曲げ特性を有する光ファイバケーブルである。
 表1の評価結果によれば、良好な防水性を有しつつ良好な曲げ特性を有するサンプルは、No.4~9、16~19であった。これにより、吸水性繊維の占有率が1%以上5%以下であり、空隙部の最大面積が1.0mm以下である場合に、防水性および曲げ特性が良好であることが分かった。なお、光ファイバリボンではなく単心の光ファイバ心線を有する光ファイバケーブルの場合でも同じような傾向を示す。

  1.  複数の光ファイバ心線と、
     複数の吸水性繊維と、
     前記複数の光ファイバ心線および前記複数の吸水性繊維の周囲を被覆する外被と、
    を備えており、
     光ファイバケーブルの長手方向に直交する断面における前記外被より内側の収容部の面積に対する前記吸水性繊維の前記断面における面積の割合は1%以上5%以下であり、
     前記断面における前記光ファイバ心線に囲まれた空隙部の面積の最大値は1.0mm以下である、光ファイバケーブル。
  2.  前記断面における前記外被より内側の収容部の面積から前記断面における前記複数の光ファイバ心線の面積を減ずることにより求められた内部空隙面積を、前記収容部の面積で除することにより求められる内部空隙率は、30%以上50%以下である、請求項1に記載の光ファイバケーブル。

  6.  前記複数の光ファイバ心線の一部の周囲を覆う第一押さえ部材と、
     前記第一押さえ部材の外側に配置された前記複数の光ファイバ心線の他の一部の周囲を覆う第二押さえ部材と、を備えており、
     前記第一押さえ部材および前記第二押さえ部材は、吸水性を有する、請求項1から請求項4のいずれか一項に記載の光ファイバケーブル。
  7.  複数の光ファイバ心線と、
     複数の吸水性繊維と、
     前記複数の光ファイバ心線および前記複数の吸水性繊維の周囲を被覆する被覆部と、
    を備えており、
     光ファイバユニットの長手方向に直交する断面における前記被覆部より内側の収容部の面積に対する前記吸水性繊維の前記断面における面積の割合は1%以上5%以下であり、
     前記断面における前記光ファイバ心線に囲まれた空隙部の面積の最大値は1.0mm以下である、光ファイバユニット。
