Abstract
Un outil de forage autonome avancé constitué d'un cône et d'un cylindre (tel que représenté sur la figure) est hélicoïdal en spirale depuis l'extérieur, le cylindre est hélicoïdal de gauche à droite et le cône est hélicoïdal en spirale de droite à gauche. À l'intérieur du cylindre se trouvent deux moteurs collés l'un à l'autre sur des paliers verticalement opposés l'un à l'autre, un moteur responsable de la rotation du cône dans la direction droite et un autre responsable de la rotation du cylindre dans la direction gauche. La machine peut forer des puits par elle-même sans utiliser de longs tuyaux raccordés à l'appareil de forage comme ce qui est utilisé à présent. La forme hélicoïdale donne une profondeur de rotation et sert de crochet pour la machine. La différence de forme hélicoïdale entre le cylindre et le cône donne un couple et un contre-couple. La rotation est provoquée par la force de l'outil dans les couches de la terre et les couches rocheuses, et le frottement.
