Definitions
- the present invention relates to a stretched film used for packaging films, etc., and a method for manufacturing the same.
- packaging films used for pouches and the like have been laminates made of, for example, a base film made of a resin material and a sealant film made of a material different from the resin material that makes up the base film.
- mono-material packaging films examples include polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyethylene terephthalate.
- polyethylene is the most widely used material in existing packaging films, and is the material for which there is particular demand for mono-materialization.
- a laminate As a packaging film using this polyethylene, for example, a laminate has been proposed that includes a base film and a sealant film, the base film and the sealant film being made of polyethylene, and the base film being stretched. It is described that this type of configuration makes it possible to provide a laminate that has high recyclability, printability, and strength, and in which the transparency of the base film is improved (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
- the packaging film described in the above Patent Document 1 is mainly composed of polyethylene with a density of less than 0.950 g/ cm3 , so that the heat shrinkage rate is large, and the base film shrinks during heat sealing performed during bag making, causing wrinkles and poor appearance.
- the present invention was made in consideration of the above problems, and aims to provide a stretched film with excellent heat resistance.
- the stretched film of the present invention is a stretched film containing as a main component polyethylene having a density of 0.950 g/ cm3 or more, wherein the content of polyethylene having a density of 0.950 g/cm3 or more in the entire stretched film exceeds 50 mass%, and the heat shrinkage rate of the film when heated at 120°C for 10 minutes in the stretching direction is 3% or less.
- the present invention also provides a method for producing a stretched film, which includes at least a step of preparing a raw film containing as a main component polyethylene having a density of 0.950 g/ cm3 or more, and a step of performing a stretching treatment on the raw film, and is characterized in that the content of polyethylene having a density of 0.950 g/ cm3 or more in the entire raw film is more than 50 mass%, and the stretching temperature in the stretching treatment is 125°C or more and less than 130°C.
- the present invention makes it possible to provide a stretched film with excellent heat resistance.
- FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a laminate using the stretched film of the present invention.
- FIG. 2 is a plan view illustrating a laminate using the stretched film of the present invention.
- Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view showing a laminate using the stretched film of the present invention.
- the laminate 1 comprises a polyethylene film (stretched film) 3 that serves as a base film, and a sealant film 2 laminated to the polyethylene film 3.
- the sealant film 2 of the present invention is preferably a polyethylene-based resin. More specifically, high density polyethylene (HDPE), medium density polyethylene (MDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), etc. are included.
- HDPE high density polyethylene
- MDPE medium density polyethylene
- LDPE low density polyethylene
- LLDPE linear low density polyethylene
- low-density polyethylene LDPE
- LLDPE linear low-density polyethylene
- the polyethylene content in the sealant film 2 is preferably 70% or more, more preferably 90% or more, even more preferably 95% or more, and most preferably 100%.
- the thickness of the sealant film 2 is preferably 20 ⁇ m to 200 ⁇ m, and more preferably 30 ⁇ m to 150 ⁇ m.
- the sealant film 2 may contain components other than the above-mentioned polyethylene resin, as long as the properties of the sealant film 2 are not impaired.
- ingredients include olefin resins, amide-based antiblocking agents (e.g., stearic acid amide), plasticizers, UV absorbers, antioxidants, weather stabilizers, antistatic agents, colorants, anti-fogging agents, metal soaps, waxes, mold inhibitors, antibacterial agents, nucleating agents, flame retardants, lubricants, etc.
- amide-based antiblocking agents e.g., stearic acid amide
- plasticizers e.g., plasticizers, UV absorbers, antioxidants, weather stabilizers, antistatic agents, colorants, anti-fogging agents, metal soaps, waxes, mold inhibitors, antibacterial agents, nucleating agents, flame retardants, lubricants, etc.
- the polyethylene film 3 of the present invention is composed mainly of high density polyethylene (HDPE), and in the present invention, the density of the high density polyethylene is 0.950 g/cm3 or more . This is because, if the density is less than 0.950 g/ cm3 , the melting point of the polyethylene is low, so that the heat shrinkage rate increases, the heat resistance decreases, and the film strength decreases.
- HDPE high density polyethylene
- the density of the high density polyethylene is preferably less than 0.970 g/ cm3 . This is because if the density is 0.970 g/ cm3 or more, the polyethylene becomes hard and easily torn, which may make it difficult to produce a stretched film.
- the melting point of the high density polyethylene is preferably in the range of 130 to 140°C, and more preferably 132 to 140°C. If the melting point is less than 130°C, stretching at or above the stretching temperature (125°C) described below may not be possible, and the heat resistance of the stretched film may decrease.
- the "melting point" mentioned above is measured in accordance with JIS K 7121:1987, and is determined by measuring the temperature at which the main endothermic peak appears using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC).
- DSC differential scanning calorimeter
- the melt mass flow rate (MFR) of the high density polyethylene is preferably 0.01 to 3.00 g/10 min, more preferably 0.02 to 2.50 g/10 min, and even more preferably 0.1 to 2.00 g/10 min. This is because when the melt mass flow rate (MFR) is 0.01 g/10 min or more, molding can be performed using a general-purpose extruder without using special equipment, and when it is 3.00 g/10 min or less, sufficient film strength can be achieved.
- the above melt mass flow rate is obtained by measuring in accordance with the provisions of JIS K7210:1999.
- the content of high-density polyethylene in the entire polyethylene film is more than 50% by mass, and preferably 70% by mass or more, out of 100% by mass of the polyethylene film.
- the polyethylene film 3 of the present invention may also contain ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) in addition to the high density polyethylene that is the main component described above.
- UHMWPE ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene
- This ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is a solid powder, and one with a viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) of 500,000 to 3,000,000 can be used. This is because if the viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) is less than 500,000, the melt tension will be small, and the effect obtained by mixing the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (i.e., the effect of being able to perform stretching at a higher temperature without melting the film) may be reduced. Also, if the viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) is more than 3,000,000, the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene may not melt and may not mix with the high density polyethylene (gelling may occur during kneading and molding).
- ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene for example, a commercially available product such as Hi-Zex Million 030S (manufactured by Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., viscosity average molecular weight: 500,000) can be used.
- cross-linked polyethylene cross-linked by a cross-linking agent or electron beam irradiation, etc., or polymerized (synthesized) polyethylene with a viscosity average molecular weight of 500,000 to 3,000,000 may be used.
- viscosity average molecular weight refers to the one calculated in accordance with JIS K 7367-3:1999.
- the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene preferably has a melting point in the range of 130 to 140°C after recrystallization, and more preferably 132 to 140°C.
- the content of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene in the entire polyethylene film is preferably more than 0% by mass and not more than 30% by mass, out of 100% by mass of the polyethylene film. This is because if the content of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene is more than 30% by mass, the transparency of the film may decrease.
- the content of polyethylene (i.e., high-density polyethylene and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) in the entire polyethylene film is preferably 90% by mass or more, and more preferably 95% by mass or more, out of 100% by mass of the polyethylene film.
- polyethylene content is more than 90% by mass, it becomes possible to regard the entire laminate 1 as a single material made of polyethylene, thereby improving recyclability.
- the polyethylene film may contain components other than the above-mentioned high density polyethylene and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, as long as the heat resistance of the polyethylene film is not impaired.
- ingredients include olefin resins, amide-based antiblocking agents (e.g., stearic acid amide), plasticizers, UV absorbers, antioxidants, weather stabilizers, antistatic agents, colorants, anti-fogging agents, metal soaps, waxes, mold inhibitors, antibacterial agents, nucleating agents, flame retardants, lubricants, etc.
- amide-based antiblocking agents e.g., stearic acid amide
- plasticizers e.g., plasticizers, UV absorbers, antioxidants, weather stabilizers, antistatic agents, colorants, anti-fogging agents, metal soaps, waxes, mold inhibitors, antibacterial agents, nucleating agents, flame retardants, lubricants, etc.
- the raw material containing the above-mentioned high-density polyethylene is molded into a film using an extruder to produce a polyethylene film.
- high density polyethylene and, if necessary, other components such as the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene described above are mixed in a specified blend ratio, and the mixture is formed into a film by melt extrusion using an extruder equipped with a T-die, to obtain the raw film before stretching.
- the content of high density polyethylene in the entire raw film is more than 50% by mass out of 100% by mass of the raw film, and the content of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene in the entire raw film is more than 0% by mass and 30% by mass or less out of 100% by mass of the raw film.
- the raw film is subjected to uniaxial stretching to produce a stretched film that will become the polyethylene film 3 shown in Figures 1 and 2.
- the stretching method is not particularly limited, and examples include roll stretching and tenter stretching.
- the uniaxial stretching process described above refers to a stretching process carried out in either the mechanical axis (longitudinal) direction of the film (hereinafter referred to as "MD") or the direction perpendicular to the MD (hereinafter referred to as "TD") as shown in Figure 2. Note that a biaxial stretching process may also be carried out in which stretching is carried out in both the MD and TD directions.
- MD mechanical axis (longitudinal) direction of the film
- TD direction perpendicular to the MD
- the stretching temperature in the uniaxial stretching process is 125°C or higher and lower than 129°C, and preferably 127°C or higher and lower than 129°C. This is because if the stretching temperature is lower than 125°C, the thermal shrinkage rate will be large and the heat resistance may decrease, and if the stretching temperature is 129°C or higher, the film may melt and break.
- the temperature is 125°C or higher and lower than 130°C, and preferably 127°C or higher and lower than 130°C.
- the stretching ratio in the uniaxial stretching process is 4 times or more and 10 times or less. This is because if the stretching ratio is less than 4 times, unstretched parts will remain, which may reduce transparency. If the stretching ratio is more than 10 times, the film may break. From the viewpoint of improving transparency and preventing film breakage, it is preferable that the stretching ratio is 5 times or more and 8 times or less.
- the polyethylene film produced by the above-mentioned stretching treatment is mainly composed of high-density polyethylene having a density of 0.950 g/cm3 or more . Since the melting point of high-density polyethylene is high, it is possible to suppress an increase in the heat shrinkage rate. Since the heat shrinkage rate when heated at 120°C for 10 minutes in the stretching direction of the film is 3% or less, the dimensional stability by the heat treatment is high, and excellent heat resistance can be obtained.
- the heat shrinkage rate of the polyethylene film is preferably 2% or less, and more preferably 1% or less.
- thermal shrinkage rate can be determined by the method described in the examples below.
- the polyethylene film of the present invention has a haze of 20% or less, making it possible to obtain excellent transparency.
- the haze of the polyethylene film is preferably 10% or less, more preferably 7% or less, and even more preferably 5% or less.
- haze here refers to the index of cloudiness measured in accordance with JIS K 7361.
- the tensile breaking stress of the polyethylene film of the present invention in at least one of the MD and TD directions is 100 MPa or more. If the tensile breaking stress is 100 MPa or more, the transparency is improved and a polyethylene film having sufficient strength as a base film can be provided.
- the tensile breaking stress of the polyethylene film is preferably 200 MPa or more.
- tensile breaking stress refers to the stress measured in accordance with JIS K 7127.
- the thickness of the raw film before the stretching process is preferably 100 ⁇ m or more and 300 ⁇ m or less, and more preferably 100 ⁇ m or more and 250 ⁇ m or less. If the thickness of the raw film is 100 ⁇ m or more, it can have a strength that can withstand the stress during stretching. If the thickness of the raw film is 300 ⁇ m or less, it can have sufficient transparency after stretching.
- the thickness of the polyethylene film after the stretching process is preferably 10 ⁇ m or more and 50 ⁇ m or less, and more preferably 20 ⁇ m or more and 40 ⁇ m or less. If the thickness of the polyethylene film after the stretching process is 10 ⁇ m or more, sufficient strength as a base film can be obtained. If the thickness of the polyethylene film after the stretching process is 50 ⁇ m or less, sufficient transparency can be obtained.
- the present invention makes it possible to obtain a polyethylene film that has excellent heat resistance, strength, and transparency.
- the polyethylene film that serves as the base film may be a single layer, or may be a multi-layer film of two or more layers.
- the composition and thickness of each layer may be the same or different.
- the thickness refers to the total thickness of the multi-layer film.
- a raw material containing a polyethylene resin such as the above-mentioned high density polyethylene (HDPE), medium density polyethylene (MDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) is prepared, and the raw material is formed into a film using an extruder in the same manner as the above-mentioned polyethylene film, to produce sealant film 2.
- a polyethylene resin such as the above-mentioned high density polyethylene (HDPE), medium density polyethylene (MDPE), low density polyethylene (LDPE), and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE)
- the polyethylene film 3 and the sealant film 2 are laminated together via an adhesive to produce the laminate 1 shown in Figure 1.
- HDPE1 High density polyethylene (density: 0.951 g/cm 3 , melting point: 133.6° C., MFR: 1.0 g/10 min, manufactured by Tosoh Corporation)
- HDPE2 High density polyethylene (density: 0.958 g/cm 3 , melting point: 133° C., MFR: 0.98 g/10 min, manufactured by Prime Polymer Co., Ltd., product name: Hi-Zex 3600F)
- HDPE3 High density polyethylene (density: 0.960 g/cm 3 , melting point: 135° C., MFR: 1.0 g/10 min, manufactured by Japan Polyethylene Corporation, product name: Novatec HY540)
- MDPE Medium density polyethylene (density: 0.943 g/cm 3 , melting point: 126° C., MFR: 0.24 g/10 min, manufactured by Prime Polymer Co., Ltd., product name: Hi-Zex 5100E)
- Example 1 Preparation of Stretched Film> First, the high density polyethylene shown in Table 1 was prepared. Next, the prepared high density polyethylene was formed into a film by melt extrusion (extrusion temperature: 200° C.) using an extruder (manufactured by LABTECH) equipped with a T-die, and the film was taken up on a take-up roll to obtain a raw film before stretching having the thickness shown in Table 1.
- this raw film was stretched uniaxially in the MD under the stretching temperature and stretch ratio conditions shown in Table 1 to produce a stretched film (polyethylene film) made of high-density polyethylene and having the thickness shown in Table 1.
- Heat shrinkage rate in the stretching direction [%] [(gauge line distance before heating - gauge line distance after heating) / gauge line distance before heating] x 100 (1)
- the tensile breaking stress [MPa] of the prepared stretched film was measured in accordance with JIS K 7127. More specifically, a rectangular test piece of 200 mm in the MD direction and 10 mm in the TD direction was prepared, and a tensile test was performed using a tensile tester (manufactured by Shimadzu Corporation, product name: Autograph AG-5000A) at a temperature of 25°C and a tensile speed of 100 mm/min, to measure the tensile breaking stress [MPa] in the MD and TD. The results are shown in Table 1.
- ⁇ Haze measurement> The haze [%] in the visible light region (range of 360 to 750 nm) of polyethylene was measured as an index of the haze of the produced stretched film using a spectrophotometer (manufactured by Nippon Denshoku Industries Co., Ltd., product name: HAZE METER NDH5000) in accordance with JIS K 7361. The results are shown in Table 1.
- Examples 2 to 7, Comparative Examples 1 to 6) A raw film having a thickness shown in Table 1 was stretched to produce a stretched film in the same manner as in Example 1 described above, except that the composition of the stretched film (i.e., the polyethylene used) and the conditions of the uniaxial stretching treatment were changed to those shown in Table 1.
- the composition of the stretched film i.e., the polyethylene used
- the conditions of the uniaxial stretching treatment were changed to those shown in Table 1.
- Comparative Example 2 the original film before stretching was composed only of high-density polyethylene, and the stretched film melted because the stretching temperature during film formation in the uniaxial stretching process was 129°C. Therefore, in Comparative Example 2, it was not possible to calculate the thermal shrinkage rate, measure the tensile breaking stress, or measure the haze.
- Comparative Example 4 the raw film before stretching was composed only of medium-density polyethylene, and because polyethylene has a low density (low melting point), the stretched film melted at the stretching temperature (125°C) during film formation in the uniaxial stretching process. Therefore, in Comparative Example 4, it was not possible to calculate the thermal shrinkage rate, measure the tensile breaking stress, or measure the haze.
- Comparative Example 5 the raw film before stretching was composed only of medium-density polyethylene, and because the density of polyethylene is low, the stretched film broke at the stretching ratio (5 times) during film formation in the uniaxial stretching process. Therefore, in Comparative Example 5, it was not possible to calculate the thermal shrinkage rate, measure the tensile breaking stress, or measure the haze.
- Comparative Example 6 the raw film before stretching was composed of high density polyethylene and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, and the stretched film melted because the stretching temperature during film formation in the uniaxial stretching process was 130°C. Therefore, in Comparative Example 6, it was not possible to calculate the thermal shrinkage rate, measure the tensile breaking stress, or measure the haze.
- the raw film was stretched by uniaxially stretching in the MD under the stretching temperature and stretch ratio conditions shown in Table 3, to produce a stretched film (polyethylene film) with a three-layer structure formed from two types of polyethylene and with the thickness shown in Table 3.
- Comparative Example 8 the entire second base layer in the raw film before stretching was composed of medium-density polyethylene, which has a low density (low melting point), and therefore the second base layer made of medium-density polyethylene melted at the stretching temperature (125°C) during film formation in the uniaxial stretching process. Therefore, in Comparative Example 8, it was not possible to calculate the thermal shrinkage rate, measure the tensile breaking stress, or measure the haze.
- the stretched films of Examples 1 to 7 contain high-density polyethylene having a density of 0.950 g/cm3 or more, the content of high-density polyethylene in the entire stretched film exceeds 50 mass%, and the heat shrinkage rate when heated at 120°C for 10 minutes in the stretching direction of the film is 3% or less. Therefore, it is understood that the dimensional stability by heat treatment is high and the heat resistance is excellent.
- the stretched films of Examples 6 and 7 are composed of high-density polyethylene and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with a viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) of 500,000, and the content of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene in the entire stretched film is 30 mass% or less.
- Mv viscosity average molecular weight
- the film can be stretched at a higher temperature (128-129°C) without melting, and the thermal shrinkage rate is 1% or less, demonstrating that the film has excellent heat resistance.
- the stretched film of Comparative Example 1 had a low stretching temperature of 120°C, which resulted in a large thermal shrinkage rate and poor heat resistance.
- the stretched film of Comparative Example 3 is made only of medium density polyethylene, and the stretching temperature is low at 120°C, so the thermal shrinkage rate is very large and it is clear that the heat resistance is poor. In addition, the haze is larger than 20%, and it is clear that the transparency is poor.
- the present invention is suitable for stretched films used, for example, as packaging films.

Abstract
