Definitions
- the present invention relates to a combination of alkyl polyglycoside and a lipid layer enhancer which is selected from the group consisting of esters of fatty acids of chain length C 8 -C 24 , and at least one aliphatic mono-or dihydric alcohol having 2 to 6 carbon atoms.
- the present invention also relates to use of this combination in a liquid detergent composition.
- Sugar surfactants for example, alkyl polyglycosides are distinguished by excellent detergent properties and high ecotoxicological compatibility. For this reason, these classes of nonionic surfactants are acquiring increasing significance. They are generally used in personal care formulation, liquid and powder detergent formulations, for example, laundry and dishwashing detergents and hair shampoos.
- Lipid layer enhancer compounds are usually applied to the skin and/or hair in a rinse-off formulation for conditioning effect.
- EP 0776658 disclosed a mixture of the sebum-lipid glycerylmonooleate with mild alkyl polyglycosides. The mixture combines the moisturizing properties of the lipid layer enhancer with the mildness of the biobased surfactant.
- the product can be simply formulated in the surfactant bases with cold process and also provides certain thickening benefits and conditioning benefit.
- the viscosity of the blend is not stable but goes higher during storage or under a temperature higher than room temperature. This will lead longer dispersing time during formulation.
- Reason behind might be due to insufficient dispersibility of glyceryl fatty acid ester in presence of alkyl polyglycoside as the blend of alkyl polyglycoside and glycerol fatty acid ester forms an emulsion in lamellar phase, and becomes instable due to fusion of emulsion, in particular with extended storage time or higher storage temperature.
- the surprising discovery has been made by the present invention, that the combination comprising an alkyl polyglycoside, at least one lipid layer enhancer and at least one aliphatic mono-or dihydric alcohol having 2 to 6 carbon atoms, can solve the before mentioned difficulties.
- alkyl polyglycoside characterized by the formula:
- the present invention provides a combination for use in preparing a liquid detergent formulation with improved processability.
- the liquid detergent formulation is preferably a liquid laundry detergent formulation or a liquid dishwashing detergent formulation.

- the inventors have now discovered that the combination of the present invention has improved stability and stable viscosity, even at a high temperature or at room temperature after a long storage time, and can demonstrate significantly improved flowability and desirable processability. Thus, makes it possible to achieve the objective as outlined above.
