Procedure that the wool or the hair when swelling the pelt against harmful
Protect influences.

The wool separated from the skins by depilatory means according to known processes has a much lower sales and use value than the wool obtained by the sweating process; this, however, has the disadvantage that the skins are attacked. The weakening of the wool and its dull appearance after swelling are due to the impregnation of the depilatory agents used, because the latter penetrate the skin and rise through capillarity into the hair, as in certain processes in which the pelts with a hair before swelling Layer to be coated by sodium sulfate.

Treatment with a neutral salt causes hair or wool to become brittle, it loses its elasticity and takes on a dull appearance. If this method is used to prepare pelts for hat production, there is a complete lack of shape and resistance, and the products thus obtained are often false results.

The purpose of the present method is to prevent the hair from being attacked in the course of the depilatory process, which is known to have an alkaline reaction.

The action of the depilatory agent on the hair is avoided by soaking the hair with a weakly acidified solution, which has the purpose of neutralizing the swelling agent, if
 EMI1.1
the skins, skin against skin, by separating each pair from the neighboring pairs by an impermeable fabric, so that the skins are protected against the harmful influence of the swelling agent of the other skins. The skin soaked in the acidified water is easily permeable to the depilatory after neutralization by the lime, but the hair or the wool retain a relatively large amount of acidified water and are therefore no longer able to absorb liquid through capillary action.

In this way they keep their shine and firmness.

**WARNUNG** Ende CLMS Feld Kannt Anfang DESC uberlappen**. PATENT CLAIM: A method of protecting the wool or the hair against harmful influences when the pelts are viewed, characterized in that the pelts are immersed in weakly acidic water before they become soaked in order to neutralize the alkaline-reacting depilatory agents, which tend to remove the wool or hair. to destroy the hair by penetrating it by capillary action. ** WARNING ** End of CLMS field may overlap beginning of DESC **.
