Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
EMI1.1

EMI1.1
It has been known for a long time to use iron oxide or substances containing such for carrying out catalytic reactions. According to D. R. P. No. 232 347, a particularly effective catalyst is obtained by roasting Spateisenstein. By expelling the carbon dioxide, substances are obtained that are very effective because they have an extremely developed surface. The application of this knowledge to the desulphurization of heating gases forms the subject of the present invention.
One advantage of such catalysts is that they can be obtained and used in bar form. Due to the large porosity of the pieces, they are just as effective as other fine powdery materials.
EMI1.2
Catalysts produced in this way can advantageously be used to desulfurize hot gases by mixing them in a known manner with such amounts of air that when the gas mixture is passed over, at a relatively low temperature, incomplete combustion of the hydrogen sulfide occurs with the separation of sulfur. Compared to active charcoal, this contact substance has the advantage of being easy to regenerate.
