Method of preserving wood.
The invention relates to a method for preserving wood.
It is known to protect the wood against fungal attack, aqueous solutions of the salts of organic nitro compounds, in particular of dinitrophenol, with organic bases alone or in the
Use a mixture with inorganic salts and other additives.
It has now been found that the salts of nitrated phenols with oxyalkylated amines can advantageously be used instead of the salts of dinitrophenol with primary aromatic bases, which have hitherto been exclusively used. These salts are generally more easily soluble in water and are also mixed with other substances, such as. B. inorganic salt or other additives, such as formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing compounds, can easily be brought into solution. They have the further advantage that their aqueous solutions attack iron to an even lesser extent than the solutions of the corresponding salts of aromatic amines, and that significant amounts of the organic base do not escape in vapor form even during cooking.
Among other things, the salts of dinitrophenol with mono- and dioxyethylaniline and especially those with aliphatic oxyalkylamines such as mono-, di- and trioxyethylamines and the corresponding oxypropylamines have proven suitable. The latter salts can also be used together with iron-protecting additives such as potassium dichromate.
For example, pine wood is impregnated in a known manner using vacuum and pressure with a 2% solution of a mixture consisting of 85'5% sodium fluoride, 2-5% zinc fluoride, 10% hexamethylenetetramine and 11'0% dinitrophenol-oxyethylaniline . By replacing the dinitrophenol-oxyethylaniline with dinitrophenol-oxyethylamine or -oxypropylamine (the latter consisting of a mixture of the primary, secondary and tertiary bases, as it is obtained, for example, by the action of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide on ammonia) one arrives at impregnation mixtures of still better solubility properties.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for preserving wood using salts of organic nitro compounds with organic bases, characterized in that the salts of organic nitro compounds with oxyalkylated amines are used alone or together with other substances.
