Wood preservatives.

found only those uses which carry other substituents in addition to arsenic.
The surprising observation has now been made that unsubstituted arsine oxides, such as methylarsine oxide, phenylarsine oxide, methylphenylarsine oxide and naplitylarsine oxide are by far the most effective as wood preservatives. To use the compounds, if they are insoluble in water, in suitable solvents such as alcohol and the like. a. taken up and diluted in such a way that either solutions or emulsions are obtained. The wood so treated is. not only against vegetable, but also against animal pests, such as. B. Termites protected.
Example 1. 20 parts by weight of phenylarsine oxide (Annalen 201, page 200) are dissolved in 80 parts by weight of hot alcohol and diluted with water to such an extent that a 0'10%

Example 2. A solution of 1 part by weight of phenylarsine oxide in 5 parts by weight of alcohol is diluted with 1000 parts by weight of tar and used for impregnating wood.
Example 3. A mixture of 50 parts by weight of a 20% alcoholic solution

1-20 and 10 parts by weight of a wetting agent, as it is e.g. B. according to D.R.P. No. 336558 can be obtained by the action of naphthalene sulfonic acid on isopropyl alcohol, can be diluted with any amount of water and used for wood impregnation. The addition of wetting agents enables better penetration into the wood.
Example 4. A 0'004% igue solution of methylarsine oxide in one of the examples 1-; 3 produced accordingly, prevents the growth of Coniophora cerphplla unù Ceratostomella.
Example 5. A 0 # 006% solution of β-naphthylarsine oxide prepared as described in the previous examples. prevents the development of Coniophora cerebelia.
