Description

ionizing agents and disinfectants.
It has been found that both the aliphatic and the aromatic mercurated hydrocarbons are eminently suitable as agents for combating harmful fungi and bacteria of all kinds, e.g. B. as a wood preservative, disinfectant, mold stain, etc., and hiebei about 10-20 times as strong an effect as inorganic mercury compounds, z. B. sublimate. The concerns that exist against the aliphatic mercurized hydrocarbons as seed dressing (germ damage) are no longer applicable here, since it is about the treatment of dead material.
The products are sparingly soluble in water; If you want to work in aqueous solution, it is advisable to add other substances which are capable of increasing the solubility in water. As such come z. B. alkaline substances such as soda, borax, sodium phosphate, caustic soda, phenol alkali salts and similar bodies in question. One can also convert the body into the colloidal state in order to achieve the necessary solubility in water.
Of course, these substances can also be used in organic solvents, such as. B. alcohol, phenol, tar, etc., can be used.
Example 1: A mixture of 10 g of sodium nitrophenol and 2 g of phenyl mercury acetate are dissolved in 100 liters of water. This solution, which has a mercury content of around 0'001%, completely inhibits the development of Penicillium, while with the sublimate only a solution of 0'02% mercury causes the same effect.
For wood-destroying fungi, the inhibition value of the above mixture is 0-0018% mercury for Coniophora cerebella, 0,0006% mercury for Merulius domestics, and 0,002% mercury for Ceratostomella.
Example 2: A solution of ethylqueek silver bromide on malt agar tested against Coniophora cerebella prevents the growth of the fungus in one. Mercury concentration of 0,0002%.
So far, acids have been used to preserve wood. Phenols or bases with a complex-bound poisonous component, such as mercury, arsenic or antimony, have been used. The new. Preservatives and disinfectants, on the other hand, consist of mercurized hydrocarbons, which cannot be addressed as free acids, phenols or bases, and which are more than ten times more effective than the aforementioned compounds.
EMI1.1
group, the sulfanilide group and others more; X stands for an acid residue or hydroxyl.
