Method and arrangement for measuring and balancing the coil field operating capacitances of pnpink cables.
To compensate for the fluctuations in the operating capacities of successive coil fields, capacitors with a specific capacitance, which can be determined by measurements on the cable, are installed in pupin cables. The invention relates to a method by means of which the measurements associated with the installation of these capacitors can be carried out on a completely installed and operational system in a simple manner and without operational disruptions, which was not possible with the previously known methods. The method also allows the permanent maintenance of the cable's performance, since it can be continuously monitored without interrupting operation.
The method according to the invention consists in measuring the cable viewing resistance at a frequency of the measurement current that is sufficiently above the so-called cut-off frequency. This can be done at any point in the coil field, ideally in the condenser sleeve. The limit frequency mentioned is, for example, about 2750 Hertz for the two-wire cables used today. The impedance is then primarily capacitive. The real resistance component, which is dependent on the coil field attenuation, only imperceptibly influences the capacitive component, and the influence of the capacitance of the neighboring coil fields is also hardly noticeable.
It is advisable to carry out the measurements at a relative frequency of about 1'5, for lines with a cut-off frequency of 2750, therefore, at a frequency of about 4000 Hertz. The impedance is also independent of the position of the measuring point within the coil field.
The drawing shows an example of the measuring arrangement used in the circuit diagram. This essentially consists of a capacitance measuring bridge with the fixed capacitors C1 and C2 and the

Operation standing trunk and quadruple lines take place. An indirect control of the measuring frequency is easily possible by observing and comparing the relative effectiveness of a capacitor on the one hand in a bridge branch of the measuring bridge and on the other hand in parallel to the coil field itself.
The method can be refined insofar as you can first provisionally adjust the next but one field when the measurements are advanced field by field and only then connect the final capacitor in the actual field to be compensated, if necessary in a step-by-step approach. So after, for example, the field M has just been brought to the correct value, the field m + 2 is first temporarily compared and only then is the final comparison carried out on the field 'In + 1.
