Fiber separators for electrical collectors.
The invention relates to such separators intended for electrical collectors, which consist of individual fibers, such as. B. made of glass wool, asbestos, cellulose. It is known to give these fibers a plate-like structure by weaving, pressing or gluing them together, but the weaving and pressing must not be too dense to leave the separator sufficient acid permeability and substances such as gelatine or Water glass can be used, which in the electrolyte, preferably sulfuric acid, dissolve or are at least changed in such a way that they allow the liquid and thus the current a sufficient passage.
All such separators therefore do not have sufficient strength in operation, especially at the edge, insofar as they protrude beyond the edges of the electrode plates, and furthermore they cannot be removed undamaged and reused when the element is occasionally converted.
These inconveniences are avoided according to the invention in that the fibers forming the separator are glued together at the edge and possibly at individual points on their surface in the form of a wide-meshed lattice by substances which are not attacked by the sulfuric acid, so that the separators also in the Companies have sufficient cohesion. Such substances, such as. B. asphalt, synthetic and natural resins, rubber are all impermeable to liquids and do not conduct electricity, but this is irrelevant with regard to the gluing on the edge, since the edge protrudes beyond the plate edges, and also in the form of a fine, wide-meshed adhesive Grid or individual points of less importance for the effectiveness of the separator.
Of course, the fibers of such separators can be laid, loosely woven or soaked with gelatin, water glass or the like in a manner known per se.
