Ebenso ist es bekannt, körnige Braunkohle im Reaktionsraum zuzusetzen. Beide Verfahren eignen sich jedoch nicht zur Erzielung eines hohen Durchsatzes, da der Zufuhr von Staub und körnigem Material durch die konstruktive Ausführung der Anlage Grenzen gesetzt sind.
Bei derselben konstruktiven Einrichtung wird ein grösserer Durchsatz bei Verwendung von stückigem Gut erreicht. Dabei macht sich der Zerfall des Gutes zu Staub nicht so unangenehm bemerkbar, und man vermeidet kostspieliege und konstruktiv nicht einfache Entstaubungsvorrichtungen. Ist keine stückige Braunkohle vorhanden, werden nach der Erfindung Formstücke verwendet, die entweder durch hohen Pressdruck oder durch Zusätze von Pech, Kalk und anderen Bindemitteln so hergestellt werden, dass die Nachteile des Zerfalls vermieden werden. Diese Formstücke werden in den Reaktionsraum eingebracht und der Einwirkung des zwischen Regenerator und Reaktionskammer kreisenden, heissen Wasserdampf enthaltenden Gasstromes ausgesetzt, um kontinuierlich Wassergas zu erzeugen.
