Stuffing box, in particular for piston rods.
The invention relates to a stuffing box, which is particularly suitable for the piston rods of compressors, steam cylinders and. Like. Suitable, in which a permanent good guidance and perfect sealing is required, despite the fact that the guidance is exposed to strong vibrations and an abundant ingress of dust and dirt and frequent careful tightening of the seal is excluded.
The essence of the invention is that the packing of the stuffing box consists of one or more superimposed pairs of ordinary metal sealing rings split according to an inclined surface or stepped, which are placed one inside the other in such a way that the inner sealing ring the piston rod and the outer sealing ring exactly the inner one suitably encloses. Each of these pairs of Diehtungsringe is a perfect fit, ideally ground in, inserted between support bodies fixed in the stuffing box housing.
The drawing shows in Fig. 1 a half longitudinal section of a piston rod guide according to the invention, Fig. 2 shows a plan view of a sealing ring pair.
The packing in the stuffing box 13, which also serves to guide the piston rod 1, consists of one or more superimposed pairs, according to Fig. 1 two pairs, of ordinary, metal, split according to an inclined surface or stepped, nested and resilient against the piston rod axis Sealing rings 2, 3 of which the inner 2 is the piston rod 1 and the outer 3 is the inner sealing ring. 8 encloses exactly matching. The gaps-1, 5 (Fig. 2) of the rings, 8 and 3 are offset from one another, appropriately by 1800.
According to Fig. 1, each of these sealing ring pairs is inserted exactly between two shims 6, 7, best ground in, which itself is attached to the stuffing

The number of pairs of rings 2, 3 can be made as large as desired; only the number of rings 8.9 needs to be chosen to be equally large. The assembly of the parts is that which can be seen from FIG. 1 in this case as well.
If the stuffing box described is used on the cylinder of an air compressor, for example for air brakes, it is attached to the lower pair of sealing rings from the outside. 3, 5 air coming through the gaps do'Ringe and In the annular space between the lower
