EMI1.1
The invention relates to a screw cap closure for tin cans. The previously known screw cap closures have the disadvantages that there is no seal within the thread and the contents of the sleeve can penetrate to the outside between the threads. The known screw cap closures must therefore be equipped with special sealing rings in each case, which again have the disadvantage that they are easily lost and, under certain circumstances, influenced by the contents of the can that a perfect seal is no longer possible.
According to the invention, a special seal within the thread is achieved in that the edge of the vessel is rolled inward so far that the rolled edge does not reach the inner surface of the neck of the vessel and the curl runs as a thread, while the screw cap is drawn in between formed bottom and the outer jacket carries the corresponding mating thread.
Since, according to the invention, the rolled edge of the vessel rim does not extend to the inner surface of the vessel neck, the thread is somewhat resilient in the direction of the longitudinal center axis of the neck or the sleeve, so that when the lid is screwed on, which has the thread, due to the shape of the lid is completely rigid, such a change in shape of the thread, in which the rolled edge of the vessel rim runs, takes place that sealing within the thread is caused by firmly pressing the flexible rolled edge against the thread of the lid. In addition, a certain degree of springing of the neck of the vessel is caused to the outside, which enables a perfect cylinder seal to the screw cap.
The invention is shown schematically in the drawing in a longitudinal section through the screw cap and the vessel neck.
The vessel which runs out into a vessel neck 2 is designated by 1. As the drawing shows, the edge 3 of the neck of the vessel is rolled over inwards, but the rolled edge does not come into contact with the inner surface of the neck 2. The rolled edge also runs as a thread, as shown by the two oblique connecting lines. The screw cap, which is used to close the vessel 1, is provided with a corresponding thread 6, u. This thread is located between the base 4 formed by drawing in the screw cap and the outer jacket. As a result of the retraction, a hollow bead 5 is formed in the screw cap.
It is not necessary to insert a seal into this hollow bead, since there is a perfect seal between the screw cap and the vessel neck 2 when the cap is unscrewed; by the change in shape of the thread of the rolled edge 3 and the deflection of the neck of the vessel 2.
