moisture is less than 10%, after which the dried clay is converted into granular form, the granular mass is pressed into molds and fired.

In-depth tests have shown that, according to this method, bricks of excellent quality are obtained, u. not only in terms of appearance. Smoothness of the surfaces and dimensional stability. but the bricks also show an extraordinarily high compressive strength and frost resistance.

It has now been found that by a similar dry pressing process as the above

Admixture of organic substances, such as. B. sawdust, peat, crushed coke. Coals and Like. Before the clay is dried.

It is already known to produce lightweight bricks in the wet pressing process in such a way that the clay is mixed with organic substances similar to those mentioned and bricks are formed from the wet mixture. These bricks are then dried in the air in the same way as ordinary, wet-pressed bricks and finally fired.

However, it has been established through experiments that the manufacture of such light bricks by dry pressing involves certain difficulties.

When you add the organic substances to the dried and granulated clay and then shape the mass by pressing. you will find that the moldings immediately after pressing,

 are drawing.

Extensive tests have shown that this deficiency can be eliminated. if you first mix the raw clay with the organic substances and only then dry and granulate the mixture.

In order to obtain a good product, care must also be taken that the water content is not reduced too much during drying. The tests have shown that the moisture content of the mixed and dried mass is expediently between 10 and 17%

You get a particularly light brick that still has very solid edges and corners.

The method is now carried out in such a way that the raw clay is mechanically processed with the organic material such as sawdust, peat, coke. Coal, etc., in which the respective desired specific gravity of the bricks is intimately mixed. whereupon the mixture

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A process for the production of bricks from a mixture of raw clay and organic substances such as sawdust, peat, coke, coal and the like. Like., characterized. that an intimate mixture of the materials mentioned is dried to a water content between 10 and 1700. whereupon the dried mass is converted into granular form and then shaped and fired in a manner known per se.
