  Commutator machine for reverse operation
Commutating electrical machines for
As is known, reverse operation requires extremely precise adjustment of the brushes in the neutral
Zones that take a lot of effort and time.

If it is possible to make the brush setting less precisely in such machines, a significant simplification and cheaper test and completion of such machines is achieved. This can be achieved by the invention in that commutator brushes made of unannealed carbon are used for such machines, which have zones or layers of different specific electrical resistance in the circumferential direction of the commutator, in particular edge zones of increased resistance.

In the present context, the effect of such brushes can be particularly increased by using brushes of such a production type that their resistance is direction-dependent, i. H. that the individual zones or layers in the direction across the brush have a higher electrical resistance than in the longitudinal direction.

It is known per se to build brushes from layers or zones of different specific resistance. However, such brushes have generally only been used in machines simply to improve commutation, i. H. proposed and used in particular to suppress the brush fire, so to better protect the brush and brush grinding surface itself. The realization that such brushes in machines for reverse operation can achieve a significant simplification of the entire machine assembly was completely lacking. It is also known per se to influence the structure of brush carbon by means of suitable manufacturing processes in such a way that different resistances result in the brush in the longitudinal and transverse directions of the brush.

So far, however, it has not been proposed to use such carbon for the construction of brushes stepped in resistance in zones, nor to use stepped brushes of this type for drastic manufacturing simplifications in machines for reverse operation.

With brushes of the aforementioned type it is possible to make the machine very largely insensitive to relatively large residual voltages in the short-circuited coils. In this way, however, the precise setting of the brushes in the neutral zone that was previously required can also be dispensed with. As a result, the manufacturing process of the machine is shortened and simplified considerably, in particular the lengthy test for meticulously precise brush setting is completely eliminated.

**WARNUNG** Ende CLMS Feld Kannt Anfang DESC uberlappen**. PATENT CLAIM: Commutating electrical machine for reverse operation, characterized by the use of commutator brushes made of unannealed carbon which, in a known manner, have zones or layers of different specific electrical resistance in the circumferential direction of the commutator, especially in the edge zones, and their individual zones or layers also in the Transverse direction have an increased resistance compared to the longitudinal direction, whereby the short-circuit residual voltages which are not compensated for in one or both directions of rotation if the brushes are not precisely set in the neutral zone can be rendered harmless by the transverse resistance of the brush. ** WARNING ** End of CLMS field may overlap beginning of DESC **.
