Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Container with lid and permeable bottom, which can be connected to a roof downpipe, for receiving chemical de-icing substances
The invention relates to a device on roof downpipes, with the help of which ice formation within the downpipes can be prevented or eliminated.

There are already known electrical heating devices on roof downpipes, which are intended to serve the same purpose. The main disadvantage of such systems is the not insignificant risk factor for pedestrian traffic. The operating costs of such electrical heating systems can also become high, especially due to useless power consumption such as forgetting to switch off the system.

Another proposed method, which is also intended to prevent the roof downpipes from freezing over, makes use of the lowering of the water freezing point by adding salt. A major disadvantage of this method is that the salt has to be added to the meltwater at the top of the gutter at the inlet of the downpipe. To refill the salt holder arranged there would therefore generally always have to be climbed onto the roof. In addition, for practical reasons, the resulting salt solution is usually only very thin, so that freezing can still take place at lower temperatures.

In contrast, in the present case, unslaked lime (lump lime, white lime) is used as a deicing agent, which is extinguished in a container connected to the downpipe.

The structural design required for this initially provides, as is otherwise the case with the use of chemical de-icing materials, a container with a cover and a permeable base for receiving the material, which can be connected to a roof downpipe. According to the invention, the for undeleted

device, which is built into a downpipe. Fig. 2 illustrates a horizontal section along the line A-B and Fig. 3 shows a vertical cross section through the closure of the container.

According to FIG. 1, the device according to the invention is advantageously placed on the conventional cast pipe 2 of the downpipe 3 protruding into the ground 1, the connecting sleeve 4 being to be sealed.

The. The device consists of a straight piece of pipe 5, which is built into the downpipe 3, and the container 6 that runs parallel to it. The inside diameter of the pipe 5 is equal to or greater than the width of the rest of the downpipe. If the width of the tube 5 is larger, a tapering piece is arranged between it and the cast iron tube "2. The container 6 is separated from the tube 5 by a partition 7. The latter, however, is perforated at the bottom and at the top so that the two openings 8, 9 in the chemical process of lime slaking, enable the products (pulpy slaked lime and water vapor) to pass from the container into the downpipe.

The container 6 into which the unslaked lime 11 is placed is closed at the top by a hinged lid 10.

It is known that the downpipes on the outer walls of the houses often pose a great risk of freezing, especially in the lowest part, especially when at. Thaw the ground and the masonry there is still frozen. Therefore, if there is a blockage in the cast iron pipe 2 due to the formation of ice, the melt water accumulates and the water level rises through the opening 8 up to the unquenched
 EMI1.2
standing heat brings the water to a boil and heats the pipe system. At the same time, the water vapor that forms flows through the opening 9 into the downpipe and rises up in it, so that the entire pipe

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

as far as possible up to the gutter is heated and defrosted.

In the example of FIG. 1, the container 6 is provided with a removable grate 12 on which the lime 11 is stored. The substantially extinguished pulpy warm lime parts sink through the grate and the opening 8 into the downpipe, where they are then washed away. In order to protect the sensitive unslaked lime 11 from premature disintegration as much as possible, the two openings 8, 9 are directed downwards at an angle so that the lime cannot be splashed by water trickling down in the downpipe 3. By inserting water-repellent paper 13 or the like on the top and bottom of the amount of lime, the durability of the lime 11 is increased even further. The lid 10 of the container can only be opened so far that it still closes by itself even in the largest open position.

A protruding edge 15 on the lid prevents rainwater from penetrating into the interior of the container.

Above the device according to the invention, the roof down pipe 3 continues in the usual manner as a sheet metal pipe. The pipe clamp 14 gives the device a secure hold on the wall.

The horizontal section of FIG. 2 makes it clear that the heating of the lime must immediately have an intensive heating effect on the dammed water and the entire pipe system.

The section in FIG. 3 goes through the lid 10 of the container and shows that the latter can be rotated about a hinge joint 16. Furthermore, the cover of FIG. 3 has a hole 17 in the center. This allows artificial pouring of water into the container 6 with the lid closed. Use is made of this especially when the downpipe 3 is frozen over above the device according to the invention. In this case, the lime 11 is poured over from above and again heat and steam are generated to thaw the line.

Since rainwater or the like could undesirably enter the container through the hole 17, a closing element 18 is provided which only allows water to pass through when it is lifted. An approximately disk-shaped anchorage 19 below the hole 17 holds the closing element 18 firmly on the cover by means of bolts 20. This anchorage 19 also has the task of distributing poured water for the purpose of uniform wetting of the lime 11. The handle 21 on the closing element protects the hand from the escaping hot steam when pouring water. The cover 10 or the closing element 18 also avoids any possible danger to people when the lime is being extinguished by lime splashes.

 becomes.

The ice stuck in the tubes melts away in good time before a blockage occurs.

The usefulness of the device according to the invention consists u. a. in the prevention of frost damage to the downpipe as well as frost and water damage to the masonry, but perhaps even more in the prevention of ice and puddle formation on sidewalks or roadways.
