 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  Standard connection for electrical high-voltage cables and processes for their production
The normal or straight connections for high voltage electrical cables insulated with impregnated paper are usually made in the following manner:
As soon as the bare cable conductor ends have been conductively connected to one another with the aid of a connecting sleeve, which is attached to the cable conductor ends by soldering or by pressing together and the insulation on the two cable sections to be connected has been gradually removed, the required insulation is made using strips of dielectric Material or rebuilt from tubes of impregnated paper or by a suitable combination of these two means.

  This operation is very delicate and requires a fairly long working time during which the cable ends are exposed to the atmosphere.

   The diameter of the newly built insulation in the connection zone is usually slightly larger than the diameter of the original cable insulation, and a suitable bell-like taper is formed at the two ends of the connection zone, which has the task of a field shielding wrapped around it, which is used to influence the electrical stresses serves to give a substantially conical shape. In this way, the intensity of the electrical field, which is quite high within normal cable insulation, is gradually reduced to a permissible value towards the connection zone.

   The conical shields are applied over the insulation of the connection point, the outer. Bell-like tapers can be achieved by suitable arrangement of the strips or shaped by hand using a knife by cutting these pipes accordingly in the relevant zones in the case of using paper pipes for the insulation.

   The connection point thus obtained is then shielded with carbon paper and a strip of metal mesh or by winding a wire with tight turns over the conical surface parts and a metal strip on the cylindrical surface part.

   The new and improved normal connection for electrical high-voltage cables, which forms the subject of the present invention, can, in contrast to the embodiment described, also be produced by untrained workers and, moreover, enables considerable savings in working time.

   In the context of the invention, similar to what is known from Austrian patent specification no. 202208 for feed or termination connections, a prefabricated connector sleeve made of synthetic resin is used, which encloses the ends of the two cable sections to be connected, which have been freed from the shielding along a distance that is larger than the length of the connecting sleeve connecting the electrical conductors of the cable sections to one another and in which a shielding electrode is embedded, which is in electrical contact with the aforementioned connecting sleeve.

   The fact that with a normal connection no feed point or termination point has to be provided for the medium impregnating the insulation is advantageously used according to the invention to better integrate the aforementioned pre-fabricated connector sleeve into the cable run, which enables complete shielding of the connection point and also the application makes a separate sleeve housing unnecessary.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   The normal connection according to the invention, which can be used, for example, for tubular cables operated with compressed gas or pressure oil or for oil-filled cables, is essentially characterized in that, when using the prefabricated connector sleeve made of synthetic resin, which is known per se, the side of this connector sleeve is formed from insulating strips bell-like insulating parts, which start at the point where the cable screen is interrupted and that the entire connection is enclosed by a screen.

   In Fig. 1 of the drawing, the improved normal connection according to the invention is shown. Fig. 2 shows the course of the equipotential surfaces, which is based on the electrode embedded in the prefabricated connector sleeve. FIG. 3 shows an addition to the cable connection according to FIG. 1 provided for oil-filled cables.

   The following procedure is used to produce a cable connection according to the invention:
First of all, the shield 8 is removed from each of the two cable sections to be connected, and in this way the insulation 10 of the two cables is exposed over a certain length, denoted by L in FIG. Each cable conductor 9 is then bare at its ends to a length which corresponds to half the total length of the connecting sleeve 1.

   After the connection sleeve has been applied, the connector sleeve 2 (which was previously pushed over the free end of one of the cable sections) is pushed over the connection point in such a way that the metallic shielding electrode 3 embedded in this sleeve comes into electrical contact with the connection sleeve 1.
