Spatel aus Achat zur Bearbeitung von eäurehaltlger Zahnfüllmasse.
In der zahnärztlichen Praxis wird zur Bearbeitung der Zahnfüllmasse ein Instrument, ein sogenannter Spatel, angewandt und sind bis jetzt nur aus Metall oder Knochen gefertigte, solche Instrumente im Gebrauche. Beide Arten werden aber durch die in der Plomben-oder Zahnfüllmasse enthaltene Phosphorsäure stark angegriffen und anderseits wird auch die Masse bei der Verarbeitung durch Beimengung von Metall-oder Knochenteilchen, die durch die Säure gelöst werden, ungünstig beeinflusst.
Um diesen Übelständen wirksam abzuhelfen, musste ein Material gefunden werden, welches sowohl widerstandsfähig genug ist, um der erwähnten Säure zu widerstehen, als auch nach jeder Richtung hin leicht zu bearbeiten ist, damit man die gewünschten Formen, welcher Art solche auch sein mögen, leicht herstellen kann.
Ein solches Material ist nun der Achatstein. Dieses Mineral ! ässt sich für vorgedachte Zwecke leicht bearbeiten und widersteht auch den meisten Säuren, insbesondere der Phosphorsäure. Zweckmässig wird man nun den neuen Spatel so herstellen, dan man nur die Spatelenden b und c oder d, welche beliebige Form haben können, aus Achatstein bildet. Diese Spatelenden kann man dann leicht in einen Griff bezw. ein Rohr a einsetzen bezw. auswechseln. Ein solcher Achatspatel hat eine unbegrenzte Haltbarkeit.
