Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
I !. auf 10ut, mischt.

Process for the preparation of a photographic iron oxide developer in a solid form.
It is known that the easily decomposable iron oxalate developer is made more stable by adding neutral salts of mono- or polyoxycarboxylic acids, such as tartrates (cf. #Pliot. Chronik ", VII. Year 1900, p. 578) and citrates (cf. # Handbook of the enlarged on paper and plates ", Prof. Dr. F. Stolze, Halle a. S., Verlag von Wilh. Knapp 1911, p. 180), but above all of neutral salts of monocarboxylic or polyoxycarboxylic acids from which again the glycolates are particularly beneficial.
To make it easier to handle, it is advantageous to produce such an iron oxide developer in solid form, preferably in such a way that the powder can only be removed by pulling. Q. Iue of water provides the desired finished developer.
In order to make it possible to prepare such an iron oxide developer in solid form, an attempt was made to grind the three crystallized starting substances (ferrous sulfate, neutral potassium oxalate and a neutral salt of a monobasic or polybasic mono- or polvoxycarboxylic acid in a ball mill together, but this was possible proved impossible, since reactions occurred during the grinding with the release of water and a partially insoluble sludge was obtained.
However, a developer in solid form can be obtained by grinding the three ingredients individually and removing them with immediate evacuation and heating e.g. I!. on 10ut, mixes. The solid developer obtained in this way appears as a yellow powder which is extremely easily soluble in water (distilled water is best used). For example, for this process, to get a good developer, use the following ratios:
