Description

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

. Roll for roll presses, in particular calenders
The invention relates to a roller for roller presses, in particular calenders, for the pressure treatment of webs of material, primarily paper webs and textile webs, in which a hollow body made of polyamide plastic or superpolyamide plastic with an inner support and which forms the working circumference of a tubular, intended for circulation the side of the system against the web of existing roller cooperates with another roller, in particular a steel roller.

Paper rollers or cotton rollers are generally used for the pressure treatment of webs of material. These rollers are quite delicate. For example, folds, seams, elevations, knots, edges etc. of the web to be treated leave traces in the roller surface, which can only be seen through e.g. B. Have regrinding eliminated.

Depending on the type and quality of the goods to be treated and depending on the effect sought by the pressure treatment, four different types of such rollers have been used up to now, u. between highly elastic cotton rollers. elastic cotton rollers, hard-coated paper rollers and soft-coated paper rollers.

In order to alleviate the abovementioned inconveniences, a move has already been made to first pass the goods through an older calender in order to press down the raised areas of the goods, and then to subject the pre-smoothed goods to pressure treatment in a second calender.

Rollers of the type mentioned at the beginning for the pressure treatment of webs of material have also become known, in which the hollow cylinder forming the working roll circumference is floating around a core, i.e. H. leaving a gap between the core circumference and the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder, and the gap is divided into two longitudinal chambers by sealing strips projecting from the core towards the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder and resting against the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder, one of which is on the side of the system of the hollow cylinder is located on a counter roll or the material web. This longitudinal chamber is filled with a pressure fluid or a pressure-exerting gaseous medium. In this known roller, the hollow cylinder can also consist of plastic on the basis of polyamides or superpolyamides.

With such a roller, however, it is not, or at least only relatively insignificantly, possible to use the elastic ones
 EMI1.1

This possibility is created by the invention.

According to the invention, a hard roller, in particular a steel roller with an outer diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the hollow cylinder, is arranged in the hollow cylinder as a support.

As a result, the hollow cylinder made of polyamide plastic or super polyamide plastic at the contact point on the counter roller or on the web located between the hollow cylinder and the counter roller can suffer a deformation under the contact pressure.

This deformation causes the plastic particles to migrate at the contact point. The migration of the plastic particles manifests itself in a special friction effect on the web. After leaving the contact point, the plastic particles migrate back to their original position. Since the contact of the outer circumference of the tubular body is only one-sided and likewise the contact of the inner support

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

roller on the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder, with the roller according to the invention the plastic particles have sufficient time to migrate back to their original position before they come to rest against the counter roller or the material web, so that a destruction of the hollow cylinder by constantly increasing deformation is not to be feared is.

The path available for the particles to migrate back to their original position and the gap between the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder and the inner support roller, which extends from the contact point of the inner roller to the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder, allow heat to flow away, which is located at the contact point of the hollow cylinder developed by the migration of the plastic particles.

The polyamide plastic or super polyamide plastic is characterized, among other things, by excellent mechanical properties and inherently elastic properties. With the roller design according to the invention, there is no need to fear detrimental stretching of the plastic during work, so that the roller has a long service life.

It can be expedient to provide the heat dissipation known per se in the case of the rolls of calenders in the area of the inner roll.

The inner roller can be cooled for this purpose.

With cooling of the inner roller, heating on the contact point of the internal
 EMI2.1
opportunities are possible without having to fear harmful heating of the hollow plastic cylinder.

There is preferably a play of about 1 to 3 mm between the inner roller and the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder, with the exception of their contact point.

The drawing schematically illustrates an embodiment of the invention; 1 shows a roller cooperating with a counter roller made of steel in cross section; Fig. 2 shows a set of three rollers in cross section.

The counter roll, which z. B. consists of steel, is denoted by 1. If the counter roll is to be heated, then electrical heating elements that are not shown can be arranged in it.

The work roll is formed by the hollow cylinder 2. This hollow cylinder consists of polyamide plastic or super polyamide plastic or an identical or similar. restrained plastic.

The plastic is block polymerized and spun to form rollers. Hollow cylinders that are manufactured according to this process have the main advantage over the cast or cast block-polymerized hollow cylinders made of polyamide plastic or superpolyamide plastic that they have a longer service life.

The plastic forming the hollow cylinder has a modulus of elasticity of over 15,000 kg / cm2. measured in the conditioned state, which is given after aging for at least 14 days. Such a plastic results in favorable conditions, in particular for the life of the roller.

The hollow cylinder rests against an opposing roller on only one side.

In the hollow cylinder there is arranged a rotating support roller 3 which, in the exemplary embodiment shown, consists of steel. This support roller can have longitudinal bores (not shown) for the passage of a coolant.

The longitudinal line or longitudinal zone of the outer circumference of the hollow cylinder lying on the counter roller 1 corresponds to the longitudinal line or longitudinal zone on which the support roller 3 lies on the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder. The latter longitudinal line or longitudinal zone is denoted by 4. The diameter of the support roller is such that the working hollow cylinder, with the exception of the contact point of the support roller on the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder, has play with respect to the support roller. This play only needs to be 1 to 3 mm. In the drawing, the game is shown larger for better understanding.

As can be seen from FIG. 2, in a three-roll set, the outer rolls are formed by a roll according to the invention; H. the counter roller 1 made of steel lies between the two hollow rollers made of plastic.

In FIG. 2, the roller according to the invention lying to the right of the steel roller 1 is formed by the hollow cylinder 2 made of polyamide plastic or superpolyamide plastic and the inner support roller 3. The contact point of the inner support roller is denoted by 4. On the left-hand side of the steel roller 1, the hollow cylinder made of polyamide plastic or superpolyamide plastic is denoted by 2 ′ and the inner support roller is denoted by 31. 41 designates the contact point of the inner support roller.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

The support roller 3 or 31 can be mounted in any suitable manner.

The cooling of the inner support roller also dissipates at least part of the heat generated by the flexing work. It can also be useful when the counter roll is not heated. The existing wall thickness of the tubular hollow body is advantageous, so that the inner flexing zone and the outer flexing zone do not, or not significantly, overlap.

The drive can be made, for example, via the counter roller 1, which takes the hollow cylinder with it, the support roller in turn being taken along by the hollow cylinder. It is also possible for the support roller or the support roller and the counter roller to be driven. A drive of the hollow cylinder is also possible.
