Arrangement for generating temporally constant or with constant speed increasing or decreasing, variable temperatures in a closed temperature control vessel serving for test specimens
The invention relates to an arrangement for generating a temporally constant speed of increasing or decreasing, variable temperatures in a closed temperature control vessel serving for test bodies within a temperature range of −150 to + 1800C.

In order to determine the temperature dependency of the viscoelastic properties of polymers, it is necessary to carry out measurements at closely adjacent temperatures within a large temperature range, for example from −150 to + 180 ° C. or vice versa. In the former case, this can be done by placing the test specimen in a vessel, the temperature of which has been cooled to about -1800 to -1800 by introducing evaporating liquid air. If you leave this vessel at room temperature, the temperature in it will also rise continuously. The speed at which the temperature rises can be influenced by the choice of the thermal insulation layer and the thermal capacity of the vessel. During this temperature rise you can continuously z.

   B. measure the torsional vibration behavior. A corresponding arrangement for performing this measurement can be found in DIN sheet 53445 of September 1959 on page 2, right column. (The temperature control chamber mentioned in Figure 1 of the DIN sheet is identical to the temperature control vessel 12 of the arrangement according to the invention mentioned later in the description.)
After reaching room temperature, the temperature control is continued with the aid of a liquid circulating thermostat. From the viscoelastic properties determined in this way, important conclusions can be drawn about the molecular structure, the crystallization ability, etc. Up to now, however, setting the desired temperature within a large temperature interval has presented great difficulties.

As already mentioned, the temperature control vessel (the test chamber) can first of all be cooled down to about -1800 using liquid air and then the measurements can begin. However, the temperature rise inside the test chamber does not take place at a constant rate. At first, the temperature will increase very quickly. However, the closer the temperature inside the chamber approaches room temperature, the slower the temperature rise will be. The temperature inside thus approaches room temperature asymptotically, as can be seen from FIG. 1 for times greater than 180 min (solid curve).

(In FIG. 1, the solid curve shows the temperature profile over time when a temperature control vessel is cooled from 20 to -1480C and the subsequent temperature rise.) Now, however, the viscoelastic behavior, especially of crystallizing polymers, depends on the speed at which the temperature is varied.

In order to obtain reproducible values at any time, it is necessary to regulate the temperature rise in such a way that it occurs within the entire temperature interval to be passed through e.g. B. l C / min.

Such a time-temperature dependency can be graphically represented as a straight line, as is indicated in FIG. 1 by the dashed line. This is the so-called linear temperature-time program. But even with this method, no constant temperature rise up to 200C is guaranteed because above -250C (point P in Fig. 1) the thermal insulation and the heat capacity of the temperature control vessel alone determine the further rise in temperature. The usual use of a liquid circulation thermostat above 200C brings the known difficulties of two-

Substance systems with regard to the necessary cleaning when changing from liquid to cold air.

In addition, the "interface" at the transition from cold air to liquid leads to discontinuities in the temperature-time curve, which disrupt the measurement process.

A linear temperature-time program cannot be implemented with the previously known arrangements. In particular, the linear decrease in temperature in the range below room temperature to -150C is not possible.

According to the invention, such a temperature can now be used in a closed temperature control vessel.
 EMI2.1
sets a desired temperature within a very short time.

Fig. 2 explains the principle of the control process. The thermocouple 1 located in the exhaust air line supplies the electrical part 2 of the electropneumatic controller with the thermal voltage corresponding to the actual temperature. The programmer also supplies the electrical voltage corresponding to the setpoint temperature to the electrical part of the controller, which controls the pneumatic part 4 with the difference between the two voltages.

(The pneumatic part is fed from the compressed air network 5, the electrical part from the electrical network; the latter line is omitted in FIG. 2.)
If the actual temperature 1 is too high, the control air flow 6 supplied by the pneumatic part 4 closes the micro-valve 7 for the hot air, it also closes the micro-valve 8 so that the control air 6 acts on the siphon system of the Dewar vessel 10 via the pneumatic throttle 9 and liquid nitrogen through the cold air supply line 11 into the temperature control vessel (the test chamber) 12.

If the actual temperature 1 is too low, the control air flow 6 opens the microvalve 7, so that hot air that is generated in the heat exchanger 13 reaches the temperature control vessel 11 via the hot air supply line 14. At the same time, the control air flow 6 opens the microvalve 8 so that the air flow passing through the throttle 9 can escape into the open at 15 and no longer acts on the siphon system of the Dewar vessel.

The opening at 15 also relieves the pressure of the liquid nitrogen caused by constant evaporation; In this state, therefore, any supply of cold nitrogen into the temperature control vessel 12 ceases.

If the actual temperature 1 corresponds to the target temperature 3, the control air pressure 6 is just high enough that the hot air valve 7 is closed and the cold air valve 8 remains open, so that neither hot nor cold air can enter the temperature control vessel (the test chamber) 12.

The programmer 3 ensures a uniform temperature rise or fall (t 1 C / min) in the temperature control vessel (the test chamber). It is also possible to stop the program feed at any point in time, so that a constant temperature is set in the temperature control vessel (the test chamber) 12.

Properties of polymers claimed. Reference was made to these measurements only because the test chamber 12, in which any temperature can be set, is mainly used for such measurements. Of course, one could also undertake other experiments in the temperature control vessel (the test chamber) 12 in which a linear temperature rise or fall is provided.
