Process for the precipitation of molybdenum as hydroxide, preferably from solutions with low molybdenum and high sulfate content
The invention relates to a process for the precipitation of molybdenum as hydroxide, preferably from solutions with a low molybdenum and high sulfate content, the precipitated product being suitable for further processing on pure molybdenum and molybdenum compounds.
According to the prior art, a method for producing calcium molybdate is known, which is characterized in that calcium molybdate is precipitated as a sparingly soluble precipitate from molybdenum solutions by adding, for example, calcium chloride. In addition, a process for the production of molybdic acid has become known, according to which molybdic acid can be eliminated by acidifying molybdate solutions with nitric acid or hydrochloric acid. Another method that has also become known is characterized in that molybdenum sulfide can be precipitated by saturating alkaline molybdate solutions with hydrogen sulfide or sodium sulfide and then acidifying this solution.
The first-mentioned process has the disadvantage that the precipitation can only be carried out from largely sulfation-free solutions. In addition to calcium molybdate, water-containing calcium sulfate is also precipitated from sulfate-containing solutions, which at the same time reduces the molybdenum content and makes processing into pure molybdenum or its compounds more difficult.
The process, which is also listed as known, has the disadvantage that precipitation as molybdic acid is only possible from higher concentrated molybdate solutions with a satisfactory yield, since there is considerable solubility for molybdic acid in aqueous solutions.
The last-mentioned method has the disadvantage that a large amount of equipment is required to carry it out and because of the harmful effects of hydrogen sulfide on health.
The purpose of the invention is to develop a process for the precipitation of molybdenum as a hydroxide from solutions, which makes it possible, by precipitating the molybdenum as a hydroxide from solutions, in particular with a low molybdenum content and at the same time a high sulfate content, while avoiding health-damaging effects to achieve.
The invention is based on the object of developing a method for the precipitation of molybdenum as hydroxide from solutions, which makes it possible to carry out the precipitation of the molybdenum within a certain temperature interval and a certain pressure range while reducing the molybdenum to a lower valency level, with acidification takes place in such a way that the pH does not exceed a range of pH 6 to 7 after the precipitation.
According to the invention, the object was achieved in that a weakly acidified molybdate solution with hydrogen at a pressure greater than 20 kg / cm2 and a temperature of more than 1800 C

is, with simultaneous reduction of the 6-valent molybdenum to the 3-valent molybdenum, the precipitation of the molybdenum takes place as hydroxide.
By using the method according to the invention, an increase in the molybdenum yield to at least 970/0 is achieved, with a positive influence on the operating costs being ensured at the same time through continuous operation.
