Insulation plates for lining risers and molds
The invention relates to panels that are used to isolate risers and molds for the purpose of
Serve thermal insulation. So far, such insulating panels made of fireproof ceramic material - such. B. Fireclay - that mixed with combustible material such as sawdust with the help of a
Binders such as B. glue or sulphite waste liquor was bound, produced. One followed the
Purpose of obtaining a heat-insulating, specifically light, porous insulating material. The carbon, water and nitrogen occurring during the combustion of the organic binder of the mixture often made a disturbing effect and led to carburization or an increase in the hydrogen or nitrogen content of the steel, which was undesirable.
It has therefore recently been proposed to deprive the gases generated during the burning or charring of the organic material of their carburizing ability, u. zw. Either by oxidation by adding an oxidizing agent such as. B. iron oxide admixed, or by diluting the gases by adding the insulating compound z. B. adds a carbonic acid-emitting substance such as dolomite.
From the insulating plates previously used for riser and mold linings, those according to the invention differ in that they do not cause any gas development because they contain neither organic binders nor organic additives such as sawdust, etc. In spite of this, the thermal insulation properties of the insulation panels according to the invention are excellent because, among other things, they have high porosity. The low specific weight and the high insulation capacity, which make it possible to make the riser much smaller than before, result in considerable savings in terms of steel and also of the insulation material.
The new insulation panels consist of a porous light chamotte of very high fire resistance (up to 1690 C) and low specific weight (0.45 to 0.75), which is characterized by a high degree of purity and high chemical resistance to liquid steel and the cast skin made of heavy metal

good thermal insulation properties. Deformation due to high temperature does not occur in the panels because of the high pressure fire resistance.
The pressure fire resistance of the panels according to the invention is at a load of 0.5 kg / cm2 to 15800C and the average coefficient of thermal conductivity between 0 and 10000C is 0.20 kcal / mhoC. Compared to molding sand, the plates have an extension factor for

The table below shows how much the dimensioning of risers made from the plates according to the invention is lower than that of uninsulated risers and how much steel is saved as a result.
