The reaction with the oxirane derivative II for the purpose of forming the alcohols I a is expediently carried out at an elevated temperature, for example between 50 and 150 ° C. and preferably in the presence of an acid-binding agent such as an alkali metal hydroxide (e.g. sodium or potassium hydroxide), an alkali metal carbonate (e.g. B. sodium or potassium carbonate), an amine or ammonia. However, if desired, the reaction can also be carried out in the absence of an acid-binding agent. The oxirane derivative can also serve as a solvent. However, a special solvent such as an alcohol, e.g.
B. ethanol, are added. Water can also be used as a solvent.
The esters of the alcohols I a can be obtained in the usual way from these alcohols by treatment with a lower alkanecarboxylic acid or with ester-forming derivatives of such acids, such as the corresponding acid anhydrides or acid halides, such as the acid chlorides.
The compounds of formula I and their pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salts can be used as antimicrobial agents, especially against bacteria, fungi, pathogenic yeasts and protozoa, e.g. B. against Trichomonas vaginalis, Trichomonas fetus, Histomonas meleagridis, Endamoeba histolytica, trypanosomes, e.g. B. T. cruzi, T. rhodesiense, T. congolense. The compounds of formula I can accordingly, for. B. as germicides, trichomonacids, histomonacids, trypanocides or as agents for combating yeast infections use.
The compounds of formula I are particularly suitable for the treatment of infections caused by protozoa, such as. B. Trichomoniasis or Histomoniasis. Those alcohols in which R 1 is haloalkoxy (where halo can be chlorine, bromine, fluorine or iodine) form a particularly preferred group.
For the treatment of infectious diseases such as trichomoniasis, trypanosomiasis or histomoniasis, the compounds obtainable according to the invention can be used orally, parenterally or topically. They can be converted into the usual pharmaceutical application forms, e.g. B. by mixing with organic or inorganic carrier materials such as water, gelatin, lactose, starch, magnesium stearate, vegetable oils, gum arabic, polyalkylene glycols, petrolatum. The pharmaceutical preparations can be in the form of tablets, dragees, suppositories, capsules, ointments or in liquid form, e.g. B. as solutions, suspensions or emulsions. They can also contain auxiliaries, such as preservatives, stabilizers, wetting agents or emulsifiers, or else salts for changing the osmotic pressure.
They can also contain other therapeutically valuable substances. For oral use, for. B. a dosage of about 10 to about 100 mg / kg body weight depending on the type and individual circumstances in question.
Acid addition salts can be obtained by reaction with inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acid, hydrobromic acid, sulfuric acid, or with organic acids such as oxalic acid, acetic acid, lactic acid, tartaric acid.
In the following examples, the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
